Review: Point of Retreat by Colleen Hoover

Point of Retreat is a wonderful continuation of Slammed. It picks up a few short months after Slammed ends and continues the beautiful story of Will and Lake. The difference this time is that it’s told from Will’s POV. I found this to be refreshing and welcome, as I loved getting into Will’s head this time around.

Will and Lake are dealing with the aftermath of Julia’s death. Lake has taken on responsibility for Kel and Will is still raising Caulder. The one obstacle that was keeping Will and Lake apart is no longer an issue, so they’ve been able to BE a couple.

Enter Vaughn, Will’s ex-girlfriend. I found myself yelling at Will for doing what all men do, decide it doesn’t matter and not tell Lake. He KNEW it mattered. He just chose to believe it didn’t, so he kept it quiet.

While it created problems between Will and Lake, I think it actually turned out for the best. Lake’s mom told her to question everything. That’s what Lake did. That questioning made Will realize that while he did love Lake for so many reasons, he had never TOLD her the reasons why he loved her. He had to show it was more than their circumstances. I believe this caused their relationship to become stronger than it was.

One of the things I liked about both of Colleen’s books (Slammed and Point of Retreat) was the discussion of sex. Sex was not ignored. The book discussed the attraction and how they dealt with it. This is a natural extension of any relationship and not ignoring that aspect gave the relationship in the book so much more depth. I like that she discussed the feelings, heavy petting, and attraction.

The addition of Kierston to the story provided some much needed comedic relief. Kierston’s mother provided Will and Lake with maternal advice and guidance. They were both a fabulous addition to the story.

I’m very excited about this series and I’m looking forward to the next book, which is due to be released in 2013.

Smutacular Halloween Giveaway Blog Tour!!!

A message from R.G. Alexander, Eden Bradley aka Eve Berlin, and Robin L. Rotham, members of the Smutketeers!

We have very exciting news to share, so thanks so much for having us here! Lots of smutty books, and one very special spooky, hot read for Halloween, so let’s get to it!

Eden Bradley/Eve Berlin is up first—her ‘Edge’ books have all just been reissued with sleek new covers, and are in stores now, and available on Amazon and B&N! Some romantic kink to keep you warm-and hopefully HOT-on a chilly fall day…

What happens when you let yourself fall……over the edge…and into temptation?
Mischa Kennon isn’t one to take it lying down, at least not until she meets sexy Connor Galloway , a green-eyed Irishman with an air of authority she finds hard to resist. While performing duties as maid of honor to her best friend, Mischa indulges in a casual relationship with Connor. She’s surprised by the thrill of his dominance, and lusts for more feisty battles before surrender.
It’s all fun and games in the BDSM Pleasure Dome Club, until Mischa realizes Connor could master her heart.
If she gives in to desire, will it be too much to handle, or will it open her to a kind of love she never thought possible?
EXCERPT from TEMPTATION’S EDGE- Warning! This excerpt contains a bit of X-rated smut!
She heard him—sensed him—stepping back, away from her, then there was a pause in which she drew in a long breath and held it. She waited, her skin alive, as though every nerve ending was on high alert. She let her breath out, drew in another. And again, she waited while the music beat a sensual cadence around her. Behind the music were the sounds of other people: voices talking in low tones, sighs, moans of pain or pleasure. The sounds that were particular to this sort of place: The quiet hiss of ropes moving, the clink of metal on metal, the slap of leather floggers.
Still she waited for something to happen. She let her breath go, stopped thinking so much about it. Made a conscious effort to slow her hammering heartbeat. To calm her nerves. To block out the sounds of the club and look within.
Her body was simmering, a low, steady beat of desire. A thrum of anticipation so strong it felt like electricity in her veins. An acute awareness of Connor standing behind her, as if he were almost a part of her body, so that knowing he was there did nothing to pull her back out of herself, away from this inner exploration.
She felt beautiful. Turned on to an almost ridiculous degree. Lost in need.
She let out her next breath on a long sigh. And before her lungs had emptied there was a sharp snap in the air and an even sharper sting on the left cheek of her ass.
It was followed immediately by Connor moving in to cup his big palm over the sting.
He didn’t say anything, just stepped back after a moment and hit her again.
This time she was less surprised by it. More able to let her body sink into the sensation. A small crop, she thought, from the light weight of it on her flesh. He hit her again, a little harder this time, and for some reason it made her smile.
Oh, this is where we really get into it.
It was what she wanted. Needed.
Another stinging rasp, then another. He was picking up the speed, working in a criss-cross pattern over her buttocks and thighs. With each stroke pleasure rose, as though embedded in the stinging sensation itself. She was squirming just a little, just enough to absorb the impact, to ride out the surges of pleasure.
He began to hit her harder. Harder and harder, until she was breathless with it. Finally, one really hard nick with the leather tip of the crop and she cried out.
His arms were immediately around her waist, his enormous body pressing into her from behind. His hands went to her breasts. He caressed them lightly, his fingertips dragging over her skin, then circling the nipples.
“You’re doing very well,” he whispered into her hair. “Amazing, to see the way you respond. Just like this…”
He pinched both nipples with hard fingers, and she jumped, her eyes flying open.
A low chuckle from him. “Ah, I love to see that. I love to bring you pain, almost as much as I love to bring you pleasure.”
His hand smoothed down, over her belly, between her thighs, where he found her clit right away. She arched her hips into his hand as he rolled the rigid flesh between his fingers.
“Tell me, darlin’, are you wet for me?”
“Yes,” she gasped.
“I’ll have to see for myself.” He slipped his hand into the wet heat between her thighs, his fingers pushing inside her. “Ah, beautiful.”
“What is it?”
“I need…more…”

Wicked Release is the third book in the Wicked3 series, following Wicked Sexy and Wicked Bad, and it continues the Abbott family storyline…as well as leaving a mystery to be solved and a return of some familiar lovers in Wicked Dangerous, coming in January 2013.

When you’ve waited centuries for release…will three be the magic number?

Cursed for hundreds of years by a rejected suitor and an ultimate betrayal, Sarah Blackwood has had plenty of time to plan vengeance…and escape. When she sensed a magic that called out to her own, she instinctively drew it to her, desperately hoping it would be her way out.

She never expected what happened next.

Con and Lorie have always known their Triad was incomplete. They didn’t realize the woman they’d been waiting for had been born over three hundred years too early, or that a twist of magical fate would bring them together at last.

Sarah has sworn vengeance on all the families involved in her imprisonment, including the Abbotts. Will she use her unique abilities to destroy them all, or will the two men she can’t seem to resist convince her–with a little help and a lot of kink–that love is the best revenge?

Warning: Explicit Menage Sex. Sex in the grass and sex in a chair. One magical mirror sees sex everywhere. A little spanking, a little kink and the dirtiest magical threesome in the land.

The cool air in the room washed across the revealed skin, making her blush. She was high enough that she could look into Lorie’s enchanting eyes and feel Con’s chest pressed against her back. This had to be a Magian invention. Surely no human would invent something so obviously designed for sex. They were too tightly laced for that.
She held on to the thick ropes that the chair dangled from, watching them securing her legs and the soft but snug swath of fabric beneath her breasts. She wanted to beg them to hurry. Demand that they lie on the bed while she had her way with them. But she couldn’t focus. A haze had fallen over her and all she knew was sensation.
Every scrape of her back against the strip of chair or the light smattering of curls on Con’s chest jarred her sensitized skin. Each gliding caress of Lorie’s knuckles as he attached the harness made her ache for more.
She was glowing with need, aware that she’d already changed on some fundamental level. Knowing that what she felt was nothing compared to what she would experience once they were finally joined as one.
How could she deny herself when she wanted these men more than she’d ever wanted anything? Even revenge. It was terrifying to admit, but it was true. At this moment they had her, body and soul to do with as they would. Heaven help them.
“I think she’s ready, Con,” Lorie’s voice was whiskey raw. “And I know I am.”
She looked over her shoulder in time to see Con smile and shake his head. “Not quite yet, my friend. Sarah and I have a few things to straighten out first.”
Her eyebrows furrowed in confusion. What things? What did he mean? “Conway?”
“Sarah?” he mimicked playfully, his hands lowering to cup the cheeks of her bare bottom. “Planning on taking what you want from us and trying to run again?”
He lifted one hand and smacked her left cheek firmly, forcing a shout of surprise from her throat. “Just checking. I’d hate to feel used. Hate to give myself, my magic to you completely, only to have you dismiss me when something more important comes along.”
Her right cheek got the same treatment, the stinging sensation causing her sex to tingle uncontrollably. “I won’t. I’m not using you. I swear.”
She heard the crack of his palms on her flesh, felt the heat spread throughout her body. “I said I swear. My oath.”
His laugh was sexual. Mischievous. “I know you did. And I believe you, baby. This isn’t punishment anymore. Not really. Especially since I can tell you like it. Your magic is giving you away.”
She looked down at her body and saw the arcs of energy whipping around her like vines of light, causing havoc to her senses. She knew there were Magians who enjoyed experimenting with their partners. Knew that magic was used to enhance the experience. But this? His actions were making her desperate, making the chair swing with her agitated movements. “Why?”
Lorie came closer, his hard cock gliding along the top of her thigh. “Why do you like it? The sting can make the kiss that much sweeter, Sarah. We are a triad, brought together because at our essence, we’re the same. And there are no limits with us. There are no boundaries you can’t cross. If you enjoy it, it brings us pleasure as well.”
She heard him, but it was still hard to comprehend. She was too aroused. “Please, Lorie. I need you to touch me. Conway, can he touch me now? Take me?”
Lorie’s groan was low and long. “As if he could stop me.”
He stepped closer between her widespread thighs and cupped her face with his hands. “You’re here. You’re finally here.” He bent his head, tasting her mouth, gently at first, as if he believed she would melt away.
She spoke softly against his lips. “I’m here. I need you.”
He shuddered and his kiss deepened, until their tongues were tangled in battle, teeth nipping sharply, eager for more. His lips were addictive. She sucked the lower lip that had tempted her into her mouth and he moaned in approval, his hands sliding down her neck to caress her sensitive breasts.
When his palms scraped against her hard nipples she let go of the rope and covered them with her own, using her fingers over his to squeeze. To pinch. Yes. The sting. That was what she wanted. The sting that made the kiss sweeter, he’d said. He didn’t have to be careful with her. She could take whatever he wanted to give and more.
“Hell,” he muttered. “You do like it a little rough, don’t you, Sarah? Con is right. You’re a wild thing.”
“Yes.” She was frantic, ready to agree to anything as long as he kept touching her like that. “Fuck me, Lorie.” Her face heated at her shameless demand.  “I can’t wait.”
Her triad had made her a harlot, but it didn’t matter. She’d taken him in her mouth, now she wanted to feel him deep inside her. Wanted to know that Con was behind them, watching every move. She wasn’t sure where her aggression was coming from. But time was slipping through her hands. She didn’t have much to waste.
Lorie made another sound of pained agreement before he aligned his cock between her thighs and thrust. Her wet sex was already swollen with passion, sensitive from her earlier tussle with Con. It was a tight fit. Perfect and tight.
“Sarah. Sarah, sweetheart…Mine” He pushed through until his hips were pressed against hers and they both shuddered out a moan. Lorie raised heavy lids to glance over her shoulder. “Ours, Con. She feels like ours.”
“I know.” Con’s words were soft. Thoughtful. “Claim her, Lorie. Claim our woman. Let me enjoy the show.”
His words made Sarah’s inner muscles clench around Lorie’s cock. “Oh,” he huffed out a laugh. “I think she likes it when someone’s watching. Something else we’ll have to remember for later.”
She couldn’t move her legs, couldn’t wrap them around him and pull him closer. “Don’t torture me.”
“She doesn’t like teasing,” Con said, that mischievous smile in his voice once more. “She likes to be fucked, Lorie. Well and truly taken. No holding back. Show her how much you want her.”
Sarah watched something darken and snap in Lorie’s intense blue eyes and then she was lost, crying out again and again as every thrust of his erection filled her completely. The chair was rocking with the power of his hips, only Con’s hands on the rope; his torso burning into her back held her steady.
Lorie chanted her name like a prayer, his gaze wild, eyes dilated. Her beautiful fallen angel. Hers. Completely. His magic enfolded her and with it his sense of knowledge that this was real. This was right where she needed to be.
Something shifted behind her, and before she knew what was happening, she felt Con’s lips on the cheeks he’d just spanked. His teeth scraped along one, tingling curve before his tongue came out to stroke the next. He was letting Lorie’s thrusts rock her against his face, his hands holding her hips steady as he licked the seam of her—“Conway?”
Lorie’s movements didn’t slow, but he smiled. Did he know what Con was doing? “I knew he couldn’t stay away. It’s not in his nature not to have at least one finger in the pie.”
She felt Con’s breath as he chuckled against her skin. “Finger, tongue…” he mumbled. “What’s the difference?”
My Vampire Idol

Coming November 8th2012
And at the end of November, look for The Smutketeers Present: A Kinky Christmas Carol novella series!
A scientist with an obsession. A protégée with an agenda. And a surgeon with needs too long denied…

Vascular surgeon Dr. Rachel McBride knows she’d be insane to pass up a prestigious fellowship for the chance to work on Julian Kilmartin’s cutting-edge research project. The reclusive neurologist has been the object of her submissive daydreams since residency, and time and distance have only strengthened the dark compulsion.

To complicate matters, a former lover who was all too aware of her attraction to Julian is also on the team. Charmingly obnoxious Dr. Colin Carter was Julian’s protégée back in the day, and nothing appears to have changed…or has it? There’s an earnestness to Colin now, an urgency she’s never seen in him—and he claims her desire for Julian was reciprocated but deliberately left unfulfilled.

When she takes the chance and travels to eastern Europe, Rachel discovers that research is only part of her job description—and submission is only the beginning of the sexual excesses Julian and Colin will demand from her.

But when the unthinkable nature of Julian’s research project is finally revealed, Rachel is ready to run from the men she thought she knew. Securing her cooperation will take a touch of coercion, a bit of bondage, and all the erotic torture two deliciously deviant doctors can apply.

Reader Advisory:  You should assume any Robin L. Rotham book contains BDSM elements, anal play, and every possible ménage à trois permutation plus occasional spares. Additionally, FrankenDom contains mad scientists, real dungeons, whips, chains, spanking, a variety of taboo fantasies, mild puppy play, electrical devices in uncomfortable places, humor, and an intimidating ratio of sadists to masochists.

October 13
When someone pounded on my apartment door like they meant business, I fumbled one of my mother’s second-best teacups and almost dropped it.
Movers. Couldn’t they just knock like normal men?
I’d ignore the rude summons but I needed boxes too badly. Fresh from my residency, I was thrilled to be joining the Early Vascular Institute all the way across the country in Maryland. The offer was beyond anything I’d dared to hope for.
Not that I wasn’t a damn good surgeon, but the competition was stiff and we all knew it took more than surgical skill to start out at such a prestigious practice. Connections were everything, and not only was I far from adept at making them but I’d never been comfortable taking advantage of the few I had, so why cultivate more?
Nevertheless, after three relatively painless interviews, the vascular surgery fellowship at EVI was mine and I’d thrown myself into getting moved at least two weeks before my official start date so I had some time to acclimate to the east coast.
Wrapping the cup in newspaper before it got broken, I laid it gently in the box and brushed off my hands.
“I’m glad you’re here,” I said as I threw open the door. “I need some… Colin?”
He grinned. “I’m just in time then.” When I blinked at him in shock, the grin widened. “Good morning, Rachel.”
“I thought you were the movers,” I said blankly. The last time I’d been this close to Dr. Colin Carter, he was pulling his underwear up over his spectacular ass. Why was he standing on my doorstep five years later, fully dressed in blue jeans and a black leather jacket?
He looked into the living room. “May I come in?”
After a moment’s hesitation, I stood back, tugging self-consciously at the stretched-out hem of my faded purple UW sweatshirt. Then I glanced at the living room, which was a shambles and not just because I was moving. Organization had never been my strong suit. Boxes and books and stacks of medical journals made an obstacle course of the floor, and piles of paper covered every horizontal surface.
I flushed. “Sorry, I wasn’t really expecting company. It’s a bit of a wreck.”
“Not a problem.” He wrapped one arm around my shoulders in a loose embrace and brushed a kiss over my cheek before walking past.
My lungs collapsed in a nostalgic paroxysm of pure lust, leaving me practically gasping in his wake. Oh God, he still smelled like…Colin. Wind and leather and unrepentant sex—mind-bendingly dark sex that satisfied me on some unfathomable level even as it left me craving more.
I was wet and ready to go in an instant, something that hadn’t happened in a depressingly long time.
Feeling exposed, I demanded, “What are you doing here?”
He turned, wearing an ironic smile, his hands in his pants pockets. “Never were much for small talk, were you? Just…” His blue eyes skimmed down the front of my body. “…get right down to business.”
“Please do,” I said acidly as heat gushed into my cheeks. “As you can see, I’ve got a lot going on.”
“You certainly do,” he murmured, his gaze fixed on my breasts as if he’d never seen a pair before.
I crossed my arms. “Colin!”
When he dragged his eyes up to mine, the feral hunger radiating from them took my breath away.
Then he blinked and all I saw was the gleam of a challenge. Had I imagined it?
“All right,” he said portentous tone, “I’m here to offer you a fellowship.”
My eyes just about popped out of my head. “Really? You leave town without a word and show up unannounced five years later to leer at me and then offer me a fellowship? Gee, how can I resist? Oh wait, I’ve already got a fellowship, so fuck off, Colin.”
“Not like this one. Trust me, Rachel, you want this one.”
Reluctantly intrigued, I scowled. “What’s so special about this fellowship?”
“You’ll be working with Julian Kilmartin.”
Everything in me stilled. Julian. I hadn’t seen him since before Colin left, and yet even now, his name alone had the power to make me…pliable, somehow. Boneless.
Obviously I still had a weakness for arrogant young doctors.

Review: No Flowers Required by Cari Quinn

Alexa Conroy is trying to keep the flower shop she received, when the previous owner past away leaving it to her, open. She is neck deep in debt because the old owner was behind on all the shop’s bills. Alexa, who is used to designer clothes, and never having to worry about money, is now pinching every penny to pay the rent on the building on time. She personally hates the big hardware store in town, Value Hardware, especially since they sell cheap flowers and are in part one reason her shop is struggling. She really doesn’t need any distraction right now, well that is until she sees the sexy as hell maintenance man in her crappy run down apartment.
Dillon James is more than just a maintenance man in Alexa’s building. He is also one of the owners and son to the owners of Value Hardware who along with his brother will be taking over when his parents retire. He sure as hell wants to tell Alexa who he is but knows if he does all hell will break lose. Dillon isn’t like his brother and honestly wants Alexa and her flower shop to succeed and tries to help out as much as he is able too.
I loved Dillon, even though he kept who he really was from Alexa. He was hiding his identity while at the same time showing her who he really is on the inside; a great guy who honestly cares for her a lot. Alexa grew on me. She is stubborn like someone else I know, me, and doesn’t like to fail at anything. Once she started to open up to other’s ideas it was like seeing a completely different person. She finally found out that just because something doesn’t have a huge price tag on it doesn’t mean it’s a piece of crap, not everyone can afford or even wants to spend a fortune on everything they own. Her reaction to Dillon when she finds out the truth was harsh but very understandable, I would be pissed too. I also understand why Dillon kept putting off telling Alexa who he was. He wanted her to see the real him, not the name of a company. I wish there would have been an epilogue showing Dillon and Alexa in the future. I would have liked to see what happens there. Maybe they will be featured in future books in this series???
No Flowers Required is the second book in the Love Required series, and I hope there will be more books in the future.

Review: Slammed by Colleen Hoover

I AM OVERWHELMED! I can’t begin to tell you how OVERWHELMED I am. I have just been on an unbelievable emotional roller coaster. In fact, I think I’m still on it! This one is going to take me a few days to get over.

Slammed hit me in such an unexpected way. It hit so close to home that I’m still reeling from it. Stories speak to each person differently. We all have different life experiences that shape who we are. So, when we read a book, it speaks to each of us differently.

Normally in a review I keep my personal life out of it. I can’t do that in this review.

When I started reading the book I figured it was a typical romance. Boy meets girl. Boy and girl fall in love. Boy and girl can’t be together. Boy and girl work it out. Slammed is that and so much more!

When I got to the part with Lake’s Mother’s cancer, the story shifted for me. It was still about Lake and Will but it had more to it than that. It became about embracing life and how much of that life you had left to live. To take each moment and make it count as it may be your last. This book just made me re-live remembering to live each moment to it’s fullest and embrace it. I got that lesson two years ago when my dad died from cancer and again last year when I was diagnosed. I have three small children and that’s when I realized life is so much more than work and bills, etc. Live it! Reading about it Slammed just kept reaffirming that fact for me. OK. Enough of the personal!

At the point of the cancer reveal is when the story changed for me. The focus was not on Lake and Will as much anymore it was on living life to it’s fullest!

end spoiler]

I loved every character in this book. They each brought something different to the story and every one of them enhanced the story and the lives of the characters. We should only be so lucky as to have that many wonderful people in our lives.

The story that Colleen Hoover weaves is unbelievable! I cried. I laughed. I even read parts of it outloud to my husband. We’ve even begun to contemplate who can pull a Duckie Revenge on!

This is an amazing story and I have nothing negative to say about it. Well….just that I have to wait to read the next one!

Review: On Dublin Street by Samantha Young

Samantha Young has written one of the most emotional, angst-filled, romantic books EVER!! I was hooked from the beginning and couldn’t stop reading! OMG!
Joss is scared of letting people in. She’s scared bad things follow her and will hurt those around her. She’s scared because it will hurt. If not one gets in, then when they get hurt, it won’t hurt her.
Braden is stubborn, sexy as hell and tenacious. He wants Joss from the first moment he meets her and doesn’t give in until he has her.
These two people are beautiful together. Braden is perfect for her. When she runs away from him and others, he chases her down and helps her face her fears. He does it in such a way that she doesn’t even realize he’s doing it. He slowly worms his way under her skin.
Ms. Young did a fantastic job of creating the most amazing characters. They’re flawed, loyal and tenacious. They’re relationships are rocky and imperfect. They fight, they make up, they make mistakes.
One of my favorite things about this book was Joss visiting the therapist. This is one of the few times I’ve read a book where the main character chose to visit a therapist to help her with her issues. I loved the therapist in the book. She was witty and determined to help Joss sort it all out.
Favorite Quote: “Gentlemen are gentlemen in bed. They make sure you’re having a good time.”
“I’ll make sure you’re having a good time, and that you’re okay with everything we’re doing. I just won’t be well-mannered about it.”
Does it get any hotter than that? HELL YEAH!  The heat and electricity between Joss and Braden is tangible. There’s so much sexual tension in the air, you can cut it with a knife. When they do finally get “together” it’s scorching hot! Desk, floor, wall, bed, wherever and whenever they touch it’s explosive!  Mmmmmm……….
Recommendation: Have a box kleenex handy when you read it!

Review: Love Unscripted by Tina Reber

Love Unscripted was a delightful read. Ms. Reber provides some interesting insight into the lives of celebrities and all they give up in order to do what they love. Everyday things we take for granted are things they can’t do. At the same time, she gave us a wonderful romance between two people looking for family and home.
Taryn and Ryan meet when she saves him from a pack of marauding fans. From the moment they meet, Ryan and Taryn become fast friends and they both want more, but are afraid to move forward. Taryn gets pulled into Ryan’s world as he romances her as only a movie star can. Ryan gets lulled into Taryn’s world as it’s what he really wants, normalcy. It’s a sweet story with some unconventional romance.
I like the way Ms. Reber gives us some insight into the lives of celebrities. It was interesting to see how doing simple things can cause anxiety for them as they face hordes of crazed fans. These fans can keep them from going for simple walk down the street or going on a normal date. Crazed fans can create even more problems as they threaten the very lives these stars live. Security and bodyguards become the everyday norm for the famous and those that surround them.
I found the secondary characters in this book added so much to the story of Taryn and Ryan. Taryn’s friends are fiercely loyal to Taryn and will do anything to protect her. Ryan’s family and friends are just as protective and loyal. They added so much to the story as they acted how friends in real life act. They look out for each other and take care of each other. They also take in those their friends love and treat them as one of their own.
I really enjoyed this story as Ms. Reber created a wonderful romance between two people living very different lives. It was interesting to see how she wove their lives together and the challenges they faced. Everything from paparazzi to crazy, delusional fans conspired to keep them apart. But Ryan and Taryn kept fighting through it all to get to their HEA. At one point I wasn’t sure if they would get it. Things were looking good at the end of the story, but who knows what life will bring to them in the second book Love Unrehearsed. I’ll have to read it to find out!

Review: Wellesley Wives By Suzy Duffy

Popsy Powers is a very rich woman, with a husband who loves her and she loves more than anything in this world, two grown daughters, a beautiful granddaughter and a crazy best friend who also happens to be rich and married to her husband’s business partner.  Her only focus in life is how much money she has and the things she can buy with that money, until all of a sudden they lose everything and her husband has to file chapter 11 for the business.  Her perfect life is turned upside down by finding out her youngest is having an affair with the wrong man, and her husband having a heart attack.
Sandra is Popsy’s best friend.  She ends up going through just as much drama as Popsy when she finds out that she too is broke and has to deal with that on top of her husband leaving her.  Sandra loves going to the gym and working out, almost obsessively, so that she remains in shape.  She is Popsy’s rock during an exceptional hard time and is what keeps Popsy going.
Rosie, Popsy’s daughter, is trying to be supportive of her family, while at the same time dealing with the problems in her marriage.  She wants to keep her husband happy and sacrifices her happiness to do that, all while wondering if it is the right thing to do or not.  She loves her daughter and her husband, and just wants to have her family happy.
Lily is the youngest daughter.  She works in the financial field and just received a huge promotion at work.  She is having an affair with the last person she ever should have one with.  Her actions start the snowball effect of a family drama that has serious consequences for everyone involved.
Let me first off say that I was seriously annoyed with how Popsy and Sandra were in regards to their wealth, even after them losing everything you would think they would come to cherish what they still have, but while that does eventually occur, there was a lot of bullshit before it.  At one point they asked something like is a half a million dollars something we can even live on??  OMG I wanted to scream when I saw that.  Like seriously, if people can live on a $400 paycheck week to week, you can live on a half of a million dollars you dumb asses.  I did feel strongly for what Popsy was also going through at the time, it broke my heart to see her that way.  Sandra did try to cheer her up and take care of her, but she would also insert her foot in her mouth by some of the comments she made.
Rosie was willing to do what ever it took to make her husband happy, even to the point of going on a swingers vacation with him since that is what he wanted.  Now, I am a pretty open minded person and do not judge other lifestyles, but come on! If both people in the relationship are not in agreement, it is cheating; I don’t care what you call it.  If you are that weak to sit back and just allow your husband to openly cheat on you during this vacation as a way to save your marriage, then honey I hate to say but its not worth saving.
Lily made me even more insane than the other 3 did.  Without giving away who the affair was with, let me just say fucking ewwwwwww!  Gross yuck, yuckity, yuck, yuck, yuck!!  Ok, now that said, she was so quick to judge her sister for what she was going to do with her husband, but thought what she did was perfectly fine.  Now I will give it to her that she did begin to feel guilty about everything and the destruction she caused, but honestly, it was too little too late in my opinion.  She stepped up when her sister needed her and started opening her eyes about her actions.

Now with all of that being said, you would possibly believe that I hated this book, well for a while I did, but then it grew on me and the ending seemed to just make it all come together and honestly made me like the book.  Of all the characters in the book I think I honestly ended up liking Rosie the best because she finally stood up for herself and it made me proud.  This is a good book to put you in perspective that money isn’t everything and while it can buy you possessions, it cannot buy you true happiness and security.  If you are not a chic lit fan, than this book will not be for you.

Review: Undeniable by Madeline Sheehan

I cursed in the review. You’ve been warned.

Undeniable is rude, crude and uncut- and you can’t get much better than that.

I’ve always believed that things happen for a reason, and the prologue for this story just made me love it even more.

Oh man…
This story…

Holy Hot Damn did I freaking love this book! Good Lord was I was addicted to it! I loved it and loved it some more! I never wanted it to end. Talk about devouring a book in record time!

This is the book I’ve been looking for for some time now. A few months ago, I asked a some friends if they have a book they could recommend that’s similar to the song Love The Way You Lie Part 2. I wanted intense raw emotion, I wanted it to feel real, and I wanted it to be told like it is- no beating around the bush.

Undeniable is that book. Now I need to get on my hands and knees and thank my friend, Rosalind, for telling me about it. It’s EXACTLY what I wanted.

And I’m going to read it again. Like now.

Deuce. Oh Deuce. You are the Jerk of My Dreams. That’s right. No one can hold a candle to you, buddy. You are what I look for in my reads- a total asshole alpha male from head to toe who you can’t help but love. And that’s a good thing.

Deuce met Eva very early in her life. It was completely innocent when they met, trust me. It wasn’t anything sexual, but as time progressed and Eva grew into a woman, she was woman who knew what she wanted. It was just by chance, really, as fate would have it, that Deuce and Eva would find their way back to each other and many times over the course of nearly two decades. And fate can be a cruel bitch let me tell you! When they’re together it’s so damn good and at the same time it was so damn bad; it’s fucked up really. They’ve caused so much destruction in each others lives, it’s something they have no control over. They have a connection that can’t be broken, no matter what. It takes a strong woman to be able to handle what Eva had to endure in her life, but it wasn’t just with Deuce.

Enter Frankie, a troubled boy Eva’s father took in to care for. Her father, also known as “Preacher” basically the King of bikers, knew Frankie needed help, but he didn’t know the depth of help he needed. It was sad. Eva and Frankie developed an attachment kind of relationship with each other quite early on. For Eva it was purely platonic, but not for Frankie. Frankie loved Eva the moment she kept his nightmares and temper at bay.

Frankie is a loose cannon. He’s extremely possessive and has some attitude! He’s a fucking lunatic and my heart went out to him. Frankie is the type who doesn’t take no for any answer. He handled it from Eva for years until he could no longer take it anymore. He took what he felt he was entitled to, and I was shocked. I was shocked because he loved Eva so much and to hurt her like he did…I just couldn’t believe it. Their love is a love that runs deep between them so I understand why Eva went through with it until the end when she found out some startling news. I could not believe the length Frankie went to to always have Eva by his side! It blew my mind!

It wasn’t just Deuce and Frankie who were part of Eva’s life. There were so many other characters who just made this story THAT GOOD. Kami is the best friend anyone could ask for. That girl is so cool! Then we have Chase, who I came to have a love/hate relationship with. He’s smart and cunning and did what he had to do to get to Eva. It was ruthless but Eva became almost addicted to Chase and I could see why. I really enjoyed Chase’s character a lot. He knew how to rattle Kami and Eva and the banter between them all was fun to watch. Let’s not forget about all the biker boys too. Ahh…they were great company to have! Never a dull moment with them!

This book took me on a wild ride! One minute I’m high and the next I’m coming down hard. There were a few parts that had me feeling sad inside. I understand why things happened the way that they did, but it just hurt. There is a strong pull with all the characters of this book so when one thing happens it hits hard. I loved every single page of the story and was hooked from the moment I read the first line. I couldn’t get enough and I hope the author does more with the side characters of this story.

The only issue that I really had with this book was that the children were there to witness so much. They watched and heard the heated arguments, the vile words and all that comes with having bikers around. The reason why it was difficult for me is because the author didn’t sugar coat those scenes at all. Not one bit. It’s raw and it’s real and I know because I grew up around bikers too. My father has been a biker long before I was born and the relationship between Deuce and Eva is eerily similar to my parents. There were loud fights, lit cigarettes being thrown, glass being broken on more than once occasion, and parties. Madeline must’ve been exposed to this kind of life because I can’t imagine someone would know this unless they’ve lived it. I think my issue is more of a personal one and would rather not read the scenes with the children since it brings back memories, but then again it wouldn’t have been as realistic as it was. It’s the life you’re dealt and you have to learn to live with it and that’s what Deuce and Eva did. This book is one I won’t ever forget.

As crazy as it sounds, with all the drama and knots in my stomach and my heart racing as fast as the speed of light, I LOVED THIS BOOK! It’s AWESOME and I can’t wait to read it again. This book is easily one of the top favorite books I’ve read this year. All of my top books have been vastly different from each other yet all made such an impact on me.

Seriously.It.was.delicious. I feel like I’m in a daze over it.

Favorite lines-

“Reel it in. Babe.”

Review: Losing it by Cora Carmack

This is a prime example of me judging a book by it’s cover. But can you blame me?

WOW…I need this book asap! This cover…it’s something else! Seriously HOT!

When I look at the cover, I see:
Deliciously Sinful
Forbidden Romance

Then I read the blurb, and was like, OH HELL YES! I can’t wait to read this book! So I didn’t judge too much from the cover…

….but I got none of that.

There is no need to describe the story, the blurb takes care of it completely for me.

I’m neither here nor there with this one. It was an ok story, cute, light and fluffy, but not what I expected at all. What I expected was what I described when I looked at the cover and read the blurb. I didn’t connect with the story until about 75% into it. I felt a pull but not enough to really grip me.

I definitely in the minority with this book it seems, so I’m going to explain what didn’t work for me.

The relationship between Garrick and Bliss started out one night and then stopped quickly after because he is her professor. Understandable. Their relationship was on and off throughout the semester and not for long periods of time either. When they were back on the final time, an ‘I love you’ drops.

I’m sorry…what?!

I didn’t see it coming! The I love you came out of left field. Is it possible that the I love you’s didn’t fit for me because I didn’t have a strong connection to the characters or the story? Sure. It’s possible. But when it was said, I just didn’t feel it and it surely wasn’t needed, in my opinion.

Bliss, the heroine, is suppose to be this awkward 21 year old virgin in college. I never identified her as being awkward. Not one bit. She seemed like the everyday college student to me, hanging out with friends, going to clubs, crushing on her professors. But was it because she’s a virgin in college and freaked right before she was about to loose her virginity? To me that’s normal. I just don’t see awkward…

What saved this for me was Garrick and Cade. I liked Garrick a lot and his British accent. He’s exactly how I pictured on the cover, I just wish he had a little more push to him. Cade was sweet and I connected to him more than anyone and I would have like to see where he ends up.

I have to give this new indie author credit- Her writing is clean with hardly any errors and I did enjoy her style, sadly I just didn’t feel it. This doesn’t mean I won’t read any other books she releases, it’s just that this wasn’t for me.

If you like lighthearted romances with a slight side of humor then this book is for you.

Review: Starkissed by Brynna Gabrielson

Sydney Kane is the one Kane sister everyone always forgets about, she is the complete opposite in looks from her 5 other sisters.  She is not Miss Popular in school and is happy that way.  She has had the biggest crush on Colin, an exboyfriend of her sister Ava, and just wants him to notice her in more than a friend way.  Her life gets turned upside down when she gets kissed while in New York and somehow her picture ends up all over the papers, tv and internet.

Grant West is one of the hottest actors currently, and he wants to date Sydney.  He likes Syd for her and tries to convince her to give him a shot.  He wants a normal girlfriend, not someone just interested in his fame and money, and in his mind, that someone is Sydney all the way.

I really liked this story.  I liked how Sydney had no clue who Grant was and was just being herself.  She figured he is just some really hot guy that she will never see again, but keeps thinking about the kiss they shared.  When she finds out who she kissed, you would think she would be happy, but she hates it.  She has gone from the no body to Miss Popular overnight and she knows it is because everyone thinks she is dating Grant.  Her sisters are pissed, and her dad is extremely pissed because of Grant’s age and Sydney being plastered all over the media.  All she wants is Colin to notice her and want her and Grant to tell everyone that they are not dating and to get out of her life.

Grant seemed like a really good guy.  I won’t lie and say what he pulled isn’t the best thing he could have done, but I think he was drawn to Sydney from the first time he saw her and couldn’t help himself.  I was really rooting for Grant to win her heart and show her he was the one for her not Colin.  I did get a little ticked off when he walks away from Sydney and what he says, but I can also understand why he does it.

Sydney made me proud when she made Grant hear what she had to say.  I loved that she finally found herself and that her sisters where the ones to help her.  She figured out what she wanted and wasn’t going to back down.  She didn’t let the fake friends ruin her and never changed who she was.  I really hope that the author continues their story or makes this into a series, because I would read it for sure.
