Cover Reveal: Relentess by Cassia Leo

Release date: March 1st 2013

Claire Nixon is a twenty-year-old college dropout with a secret. To Claire, Adam Parker is just another flirty customer at the cafe, until a chance encounter and seemingly innocent comment spurs a bet between them.
The bet is simple: If Adam can get Claire to reveal the secret that made her drop out of college, she has to re-enroll. If he doesn’t succeed, she gets to keep her secret and he must never step foot in the cafe again. Claire thinks she has this one in the bag. She’s perfected the art of forgetting her past. But she isn’t prepared for Adam’s relentless pursuit or his physical prowess. She’s also not prepared for Adam to share his own secrets. And she’s definitely not prepared for her secret to come banging down her door one year later.

Excerpt from Chapter Six
When I arrive at Cora’s house at five minutes past three, I only have to knock once before the lock turns and the door creaks open. Adam is standing before me wearing a soft smile and I know he’s probably been here all day.
“Come on in,” he says, holding the door wide open for me.
I walk inside and Cora is sitting in her recliner in front of the television with Bigfoot in her lap. The apartment is clean and the usual sharp litter box smell is gone. Cora looks up and smiles so big I can see the gap where she’s missing her two back molars.
“Hello, honey. Have you met Adam Parker? He’s your new neighbor,” she says in a voice that makes me feel a little like a preschooler being introduced to a classmate. “I think you two should get to know each other.”
She obviously doesn’t know about our date yet.
Adam takes a seat on the sofa, on the side closest to the recliner, and pats the cushion next to him. “Yeah, come sit down, Claire. Let’s get to know each other.”
I take a seat on the sofa, making sure to put at least a foot of space between Adam and I, then I turn to Cora. “What did you do today? Where’s Tina?”
“Adam’s been taking care of me today. He gave her the day off,” she says, and her eyes crinkle with delight.
I narrow my eyes at him and he grabs Cora’s hand as he turns back to her. “It was my pleasure. I didn’t have anything to do today since the only other person I know in this town was working.”
“You work too much, Claire,” Cora chimes in, as she continues to stroke Bigfoot with her free hand.
Geez. It’s like these two have spent the past six hours rehearsing a routine to get Adam and me together. First he switches my schedule without my knowledge and now he’s using Cora to get on my good side. He is a master conspirator.
I stand up and do a quick check around the kitchen just to satisfy my curiosity. As expected, he did everything I asked. He even stocked her cupboard with plenty of hot cereal packets and her refrigerator with lots of fresh fruit.
“Well, it looks like you’re all taken care of so I’m gonna head home,” I say, as I plant a kiss on Cora’s forehead and rub Bigfoot’s head. “I need to shower and get to bed early. I have the early shift tomorrow.”
“Walk her home, Adam,” she says sweetly and he immediately pops up off the sofa.
“See you later, Cora. We’ll have to watch that movie another time.”
“See you later, sonny,” she says, and I know what’s coming next. “But just because I call you sonny, doesn’t mean you’re bright.”
He laughs and points at her. “I can’t keep up with you, C.”
Adam follows me out of the apartment and uses his own key, which Cora must have given him, to lock her deadbolt.
I take a few steps and turn when I reach my door. “C? Did you spend the whole day with her?”
“I ran a few errands for her, but other than that, yes, I spent the day with Cora. She’s funny and we were about to watch a movie before you interrupted us.”
“Oh, well, don’t let me interrupt your date with Cora. Please go right back in.”
He steps forward and my back hits my front door as I take a step back. He leans against my door with his hands on either side of my head, effectively caging me in.
“Are you jealous of my relationship with Cora?”
His breath is hot against my nose and warmth rushes through me, lighting up my core.
“I just don’t want her to get so used to having you around. She’s had a lot of people bail on her and I….” His face is getting closer with every word I speak. “I don’t want her to get hurt.”
“Are you sure we’re talking about Cora?” he whispers against my lips, lingering for a moment before he pushes away from the door. “I work all week, but I’ll be by your house at nine a.m. on Saturday. Wear a bathing suit under your clothes.”
I let out a deep sigh and scramble into my apartment, slamming the door behind me. I take a few calming breaths then try to ignore the ache pulsating between my legs as I make my way to my bedroom to meditate.

Review: Under the Mistletoe With Me by Kristen Proby

Kristen Proby has done it again! Under the Mistletoe With Me captures the love, frustration, and insecurities that starting a family can bring.

Issac and Stacy have been married for ten years. They’ve worked and tried so hard to start a family. Finally, they have Sophie. Issac’s construction business is successful and thriving. Stacy is loving being a stay at home mom and starting a romance book blog. Everything is clicking in place. Until one evening when Issac steals away for a private phone call. The next day Stacy receives naughty text messages from her husband that she is sure were not meant for her. Is Issac cheating? She knows things haven’t been the same since Sophie was born, but would he turn to someone else?

Issac knows things have been stressful. But he loves his wife; he adores her. He sets out to recapture their dwindling romance. Holy cow and how that man recaptures! Phew! Where was this book thirteen years ago when I had my first child?! Seriously! What new mom hasn’t felt unsure about her body after giving birth or felt the slight disconnect from her husband because you’re both running ragged adjusting to family life? This novella from the With Me in Seattle series takes us through those vulnerable feelings it can cause and how to rectify it. 😉 I just want to take this whole novella and highlight several passages for my husband and leave them nonchalantly lying open where he can’t miss them; like maybe taped to his eyeballs. 🙂 This was such a sweet, steamy read that I thoroughly enjoyed.

My absolute favorite quote from this book comes from Issac as he’s lying in bed with his wife. Such tender beauty Ms. Proby conveys.

He gently traces the evidence of my pregnancy with his fingertip. “These aren’t ugly, baby.” He nuzzles my belly. “We did work hard for them, and you earned them. They’re fading. But even if they never go away, every mark was worth it. Because without them, we wouldn’t have Soph.”

Aww…*sniff*

Review: One More Kiss by Katherine Garbera

Man in Uniform

Wounded Warrior
Whirlwind Romance
Broken Hearts
These are all the elements of a wonderful story and One More Kiss meets that promise!
Jay and Alysse met four years ago in Las Vegas. After a few days, they got married and spent a wonderful week in the honeymoon suite. The last morning Alysse woke up alone. Jay left.
Four years later Jay is back and he wants another chance. Alysse never really got over Jay and so she finds herself trying to figure out why she could never get over Jay and move on.
This was a really good story and I enjoyed watching Jay and Alysse try to find their way together. I did find myself getting frustrated with Alysse at times. She was tried to force Jay into her world. I was impressed that she did finally realize she was doing that and tried to stop. Jay did the best he could to fit in but he doubted himself so much. He’s a loner and seeing Alysse surrounded by friends and family made him realize that he didn’t fit into that world.
I was very happy they got their HEA however, I’m not sure I would have forgiven Jay a second time around.

Blog Tour & Giveaway: Shey Stahl

“There are times when no words need to be spoken. It’s a time when you just remember. You remember that life has a way of rearranging and changing everything you have ever known. You don’t know why or even how, but it happened.”

I’ve finally come to an end with Sway and Jameson’s story, and I’d be lying to you all if I didn’t admit that a little piece of me died inside along with the end of this series. I truly couldn’t have asked for a better conclusion. It’s always fun reading about the Riley family… Lord knows, entertainment definitely isn’t lacking when they’re around! Each book in this series had its focus on the Riley family and friends but more specifically, Jameson and Sway’s relationship. The great thing about this novel was that it allowed all of the characters we’ve grown to love to come to terms with not only incidents that happened in the past, but more heartache and tragic times that were brought on them as well.

Jameson is the epitome of perfection, and I have the perfect picture to prove it… ♥

His love for Sway knows no bounds- It doesn’t matter what life throws their way or what obstacle it is that they have to overcome, nothing and no one stands in the way of how these two feel about each other. …I’m in love with the way they loved each other, and Shey Stahl truly has a way of making her readers feel emotionally connected with these two characters.

“I’ll never let you go. You are where my heart belongs.” –Jameson

I don’t want to give anything away in this review, so I won’t go into too much detail- I will say this though: Prepare yourselves for the ride of your life on an emotional rollercoaster before diving into this story! Some parts were extremely emotional and brought more than a few tears to my eyes. Yet, the humor that’s ever present in all of the other books in this series is still there as well… After-all, I think we’d all feel a little empty inside if we weren’t able to experience more of those impressive pranks the Riley family is so good at pulling off!

I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better ending to this series- Shey Stahl is an unbelievably gifted author and her talent truly shines in this series! …And while I’m sad to see Mama Wizard and her Dirty Heathen’s story end, I’m definitely looking forward to more from this family in the future.

PS: As I’ve said before in my previous reviews from the other books in this series, I definitely wouldn’t recommend any of these novels as a stand-alone. In order to really understand all of the characters, relationships, and circumstances involved, it’s an absolute must to read these books in order.

Blog Tour: Champagne Toast

Love is the most possible thing in the word.

It can expand.
It can lift.
It can inspire.
It can hurt.

Evan and Kate fall in love. They lift each other. But as much as Evan tries to inspire Kate, her lack of self confidence is her own undoing. She’s talented, but sadly is too afraid to make the leap and live her dreams. There’s only so much one person can do to persuade another. Kate can’t move happily on to the next stage of her life. Fear and doubt have her frozen in place. How can she keep up and live in Evan’s world? How can she be worthy of him?

Evan has his own faults. He holds Kate’s past against her. She has always cheated on the men she’s been with. He lives with the fear that she will one day do that to him. How can they move forward in their relationship when one partner does not trust the other? Trust is very important. Without trust, it can eat away at everything you’ve built.

Champagne Toast showed me no matter how great your love may be there are just some things that it can’t overcome…or can it? We watch two people fall in love. We see the aftermath of their issues. But can they grow, learn from it, and conquer their insecurities?

I was pleased with the ending. This Chick Lit romance read will frustrate you, anger you, please you and might even make you tear up. My favorite part was the two year’s time that followed their break up. I’m a glutton for punishment, but I actually liked to see how they were not coping with their loss and still longing for the other. I was sickened at the thought of how many women Evan must have been with to console his shattered heart while Kate withdrew within herself. And I loved every minute of it. Their love is still there, but they’re going to have to fight for it, for one another, if they want to reclaim it.

Review: Unravel Me by Kendall Ryan

Unravel Me is a beautiful story of trust and love. Kendall Ryan did a great job spinning this tale and it sucked me right in. I consumed it all in one sitting.

Ashlyn Drake a Ph.D. student studying behavioral psychology is working on her Amnesia thesis when a wonderful opportunity is presented to her; a chance to interview a live subject. The only hitch is he’s suspected of murder. No I.D. on him. No name. He has no recollection beyond waking up in the hospital. The psychologist in charge of him tries to dissuade her; stating that he’s violent and dangerous. That only seems to fuel Ashlyn on.

From the moment Ashlyn meets “Logan” she is inexplicably drawn to him. She knows it’s wrong. She’s stepping over the line and risking her work. But she can’t stay away. Ashlyn visits him daily; more than what is required for her research.

Not enough evidence to hold him, Logan is cleared of the murder charges and discharged from the hospital. No memory, no money, no home. He’s given the number to a local shelter and is set out on the street on the one and only day Ashlyn didn’t go see him. By some miracle she encounters him and takes him home.

I loved this story. I thought it was beautiful to watch these two people come to trust and love each other. Logan is lost and frustrated. He’s haunted by nightmares; pieces of his memories. Ashlyn’s touch soothes him at night. It’s not long before intimacy develops. But how far can their relationship go? What happens when Logan regains his memory? Does he have a wife or a girlfriend to return to? What happens then?

her voice broke and she rushed to him, jumping into his arms, knocking them both to the floor with a thud. She plastered her body to his, attacking his mouth and face with kisses. He seemed stunned, but didn’t push her away.

It was sickening to watch, but like a bad car accident, I couldn’t look away.

Blog Tour: Seven Years Bad Luck

When twenty-six year old Kathleen Cooper realizes that she forfeited her dreams and aspirations of becoming a lawyer after a brash decision to run off and marry the insanely charming Aidan Cooper, she decides to regain what she lost over the course of their seven-year relationship and start fresh.

With a renewed sense of hope and determination, she moves to a different city, lands a new job, and meets the handsome Benjamin Chase in a serendipitous way.

But even with all of these changes and hopes of gaining a new life, Kathleen is still not happy with the person she sees in the mirror staring back at her. She is an insomniac. She generally has bad luck in just about everything she attempts. She’s clumsy, and even if Prince Charming fell into her lap, she would likely push him in the opposite direction, for fear of getting hurt or worse, hurting someone else. This time she can’t blame any of these things on her bad luck or her destructive marriage. This time, it’s not her heart that’s in danger. This time, she has much more to lose and everything to gain.

Will she realize her mistakes in time to repair the damage? Will she be able to reverse her shattered self-image and discover true happiness? Will she ever find her way back to the person she was before seven years of bad luck?
EXCERPT:
“Oh and Aidan, don’t worry about not having me to keep your bed warm, you will always have that huge ass ego of yours to keep you company.”

He sat back down on the couch with his mouth gaping wide in shock at my words. I didn’t even allow him the opportunity to respond. I spun around, snatched up my purse, and headed out the front door with thoughts of winner’s circles, champagne, confetti, and Cheyenne on my mind. I couldn’t help but think about my seven years with him being nothing but bad luck. Like a curse of sorts. I asked myself what I could have possibly done to deserve this.

Geez Kat! You must have really been a screw up in a past life. I chuckled out loud at that thought and drove away from the home I had made with Aidan feeling very liberated.

Stressful months had passed and my split from Aidan went ahead full steam, I kept thinking about my less than good fortune in the Love Department. I came to the conclusion that my crap marriage was likely my own doing. They say if you break a mirror, you will have seven years of bad luck. I don’t think I had ever broken an actual mirror, but I definitely peered into a metaphorical mirror and saw myself reflected in true form. I was strong, willful, unbridled. I allowed the person who I knew as me, to be broken, shattered, and forgotten. My heart and soul had been beaten down into submission by circumstance and blinding lust. The person who I saw reflected after that was a distorted, lack luster impostor. My conclusion was that I deserved my bad luck for sacrificing myself.        Way to go Kat.
