Blog Tour and Review: Escaping Reality

It’s official. I have a love/hate relationship with Lisa Renne Jones and her books.
Amy is on the run. She’s been on the run for years. She finally feels safe and then…she has to run. New name, new city, new state. Along the way, she meets Liam. Liam is rich, powerful, sexy, protective and possessive. Amy has never trusted anyone. Can she trust Liam?
Escaping Reality is another AMAZING story. I was hooked from the very beginning and read the entire thing in one sitting. I could NOT put it down.
This story is erotic, hot, sensual, sexy, and suspenseful all at the same time. Liam makes Amy feel safe. He keeps the monsters at bay. He also tries to take care of her. Unfortunately everyone Amy gets close to is in danger. She can’t let Liam get close. Liam’s seduction of Amy is everything a girl could want. He does all he can to make Amy feel safe while at the same time giving her the space she needs.
Amy slowly falls under Liam’s spell. Just when she starts to feel ready to tell Liam everything, her world comes crashing down. Lisa’s portrayal of Liam and Amy was amazing. I felt everything Amy felt. Every nightmare, every sensation, every touch. Lisa has a way with words that will suck you in and make you part of the story.
That’s the good news. Here’s the bad news. CLIFFHANGER!  Yep. Cliffhanger. And I have to wait until OCTOBER to get the next one. Yep. October! Really?  I can’t wait that long! I need to know NOW!

You better get busy writing Ms. Jones. I’m READY!!

Blog Tour and Giveaway: His Wicked Games by Ember Casey

Trapped with a billionaire in his mysterious mansion… Can she beat him at his own game?

Lily Frazer would do anything to save the Frazer Center for the Arts—even take on the infamous billionaire Calder Cunningham. When Lily breaks onto the Cunningham estate, she only wants to find and reason with Calder. (All right, all right, she wants to punch him in the face too, but that’s Plan B.) As it turns out, the arrogant billionaire is willing to give her the money he promised, but there’s a catch: she must win it from him.

And the games he has in mind aren’t exactly… innocent.

Lily isn’t about to give up the money without a fight (or let some haughty bastard seduce her), but she quickly discovers that there might be more to the brooding Calder than she initially perceived. As their games of cat and mouse become increasingly sexual in nature, she suddenly finds herself confused by her own emotions. Can she deny her attraction long enough to win the money she needs?

I don’t even know where to start with this book.  I really liked it, but Lily seriously made me want to reach into my kindle and bitch slap her.  I understood where she was coming from wanting to help her father and save the Center, but after a while I wanted to say enough already!  She was so narrow sighted that she missed the signs that Calder was going through his own issues.

I loved Calder, while what he did wasn’t right, he won me over from almost the start.  The love he felt for his family home was obvious.  He wanted Lily, and his games were ones I would have loved to play with him.  I will never look at hide and seek the same again.  He was protective and loving and sexy as hell.  I would have loved to get some of his POV throughout the story just to see how he reacted to how bitchy and selfish Lily acted at times, and too see how he felt when she finds out the truth.

His Wicked Games is a play on Beauty and the Beast, but is its own story. It’s sexy, has heart break, and romance, it has what a romance book should have.  I am curious to see how the next book will play out and what types of games Lily and Calder will be playing this time.

Blog Tour & Giveaway: Tracks by Sarah Biermann

I love me some rock-n-roll books. I crave them. If they’re angsty, drama filled, hot sex, man whore galore…even better. If it’s well written, I can devour the book within hours. Now with all that being said there are some of those moments in this book buuuuut there were just too many problems with the story that I had a hard time getting thru even though I did finish it.
We are introduced to Dylan. From the beginning she’s a shy very put together knows what she wants in life and will go after it twenty one year old virgin. She gets accepted to Harvard Law School along with her friend Theresa. Dylan’s family life is what made her to what she is. Her Dad and Mom were not faithful to each other and she knows this by catching her Dad with a student and when she meets her real father. She wants nothing to do with any non sense that could hinder her education and life.
Dylan and Theresa have tickets to go see Jeremy Mason. A musical child genius who enters the rock world and has his own problems. At the concert, which they have front row seats, Dylan and Jeremy make eye contact and from here things start becoming problems for me. I get the attraction. He sees her beauty and innocence and it’s refreshing for him and she sees him as a rock God. What becomes the problem is the inconsistencies thru out the book. For starters she’s a virgin but then it goes on and says that she has had relations with other men. I’m like huh? I don’t like to nit pick but this is where a great editor comes into play. The sex is so so and there’s a scene with beer that did nothing for me. Maybe it’s because I don’t like beer. *shrugs shoulders*
They get together but of course not without drama. The drama is real life situations that affect everyone especially Jeremy and Dylan. He knows he needs help and she gives him the ultimatum and he finally cleans up his act. I didn’t like the epilogue cause of the way it left off. No cliffhanger but it could have been more. I will read the second book but sad to say it’s not at the top of my TBR stack. The story and author has potential but like I said earlier, it needs an editor.

I make a disgusted sound in my throat. “I am totally fucked up by what my mother did to me,” I say, still aghast at his reaction to my story.
“Fucked up?” he questions, confused. “Why? Because you’re shy? Because you’re private? Because you don’t like to be vulnerable? Because you strive to achieve great things to prove you’re good enough to be worth something?”
The way he instantly knows me makes me very uncomfortable. I freeze, wide eyed and unable to speak for a moment. How could he see me so clearly? How did this connection between us go so deeply? It was disturbing to me, the understanding between us. It’s deeper than even the physical pull between us, as if the air that separates our bodies is electrically charged. I had worked my whole life to push people away, building up this wall of protection. And yet here is this man, tearing it down and seeing who I am through all the bullshit. Maybe I’m not as good at hiding myself as I thought.
“Yeah,” I finally muttered. “Those reasons are pretty much why.”
“It makes you beautiful. The things you say it created in you… are what attract me to you in this unbelievable way. You’re timid, shy, brilliant, and completely unaware of how amazing you are.”
I go statue still. My heart feels like it’s going to explode at his words. How did our conversation change course so quickly? I don’t know if I’m prepared for this. “Amazing?” I repeat in disbelief.
He smiles a catlike smile, like he’s hunting again. Immediately, my breathing increases. “Oh yes. When I first saw your eyes from the stage,” he leans closer to me. I want to both back away and lean toward him at the same time. “I wanted to make them roll back into your head. I wanted to grab your round hips and pull you close to me.” He crouches on the couch, one leg on and one leg off, leaning over me. With his face against my cheek again, he whispers in my ear, “You. Are. Breathtaking.”

Blog Tour and Review: Kiss Across Chains

Kiss Across Chains continues the saga of Taylor, Veris and Brody. They’ve decided to stop jumping through time because it causes so many problems. But when they’re threatened by the queen of the vampires they have to make a jump, just three days into the past to fix it.
When they decided to jump back home, they end up in Constantinople, where Brody is a slave and human. Now, they have to get Veris, Brody and Taylor in the same place and get back to the present, without messing up their timelines.
This series is interesting series and provides us with a number of interesting conundrums.
When Brody and Veris travel through time, they inhabit their previous selves. When Taylor travels back, a whole new body is there for her. Yet, her body remains in the present. So, there are two Taylors. I’m extremely curious how that happens.
We also end up with a question about the space-time continuum. Yes, I’m embracing my inner Trekkie for this one! If they didn’t go back in time, how would that affect their present? Yet, if they do go back in time, they could annihilate themselves and alter the present. They would not only affect themselves, but others. But, if they didn’t travel back, would things have happened like they did in this present. See? It’s a conundrum!
Now, in most vampire stories, we only hear about their past lives. In this series, we get the pleasure of experiencing it with them. This is an interesting aspect to the stories.  No matter what time or place Veris, Taylor and Brody find themselves, they end up in love and feeling very passionate about that love!

Kiss Across Swords picks up about four years after Kiss Across Time leaves off. Veris, Brody and Taylor are living together and in love. Veris and Taylor make a jump back to a time before Veris was vampire. He’s human. Taylor and Veris interact with other around them and change something.
Back in the present, Veris runs off to Europe to sulk. While he’s off doing his Veris thing, Brody and Taylor jump to when Veris and Brody meet and commit to each other. But Veris isn’t like Veris. He’s different. All these jumps have finally resulted in a major catastrophe. Veris doesn’t want Brody and Taylor. If Brody and Taylor can’t get Veris to commit to Brody before they return to the present, their relationship will vanish and so will……something else.
This one was a little harder for me to get into than the first one. There was a lot storytelling in this one by Brody. But it was necessary to the overall story. We needed to know what happened the first time they met so that Brody and Taylor could fix it.
Once we got into the actual seduction of Veris, the story picked up. I like how the story was intertwined with events in history. I also like how these jumps have altered the present. Things they’ve done in the past have impacted what the present and future look like. So far, all the changes have turned out to be minor, but who knows, it could all go downhill in the blink of an eye.
Tracey Cooper-Posey did a great job of telling how they hid their vampirism from others. The modifications they made to their lifestyles in order to fit in with humans.
The romance between Brody and Veris burned hot. Once Veris was accepting of a human, the passion between Veris, Taylor and Brody was indescribable.

Now I’m off to read the third in the series. I’m still curious about why they can jump. I’m hoping we get that explanation soon!
Kiss Across Time is an action packed, dramatic story with hot alpha vampires and a feisty woman! What more could you ask for?
Taylor has been researching a poet that has been dead for centuries. There’s no positive proof that this man existed, but Taylor is sure of it. After a chance encounter, she’s fired from her university position. Then she hears this poets words being used in a heavy metal song. She finds a way to meet the band and from then on it’s GAME ON!
When she meets Brody, the band member who wrote the song, she also meets Veris. They’re lovers, have been for a VERY long time. They both want Taylor. When they kiss, they transport back through time and re-live memories of centuries past.
They have to contend with passion, attraction, time-travel and a vindictive vampire queen. We have kidnapping, fights, time-travel and hot ménage sex! But it’s not just Taylor with Brody and Veris, Brody and Veris are lovers and we get some M/M action in there as well.
Tracy Cooper-Posey managed to write a story that travels through the ages, literally. I was hooked from the beginning and couldn’t stop reading. This story is filled with action, romance, angst and two very hot alpha vampires.

Spotlight, Review & Giveaway: Hunted by D.B. Reynolds

I do love the Vampire in America series. D.B. Reynolds has created world where vampires are masters and their mates are tough as nails. I love it!
Hunted is a short novella that continues the series quite nicely. Secrets are revealed, allies are found, and trust is earned by some and questioned by others. It’s a great story to continue the overall underlying story in Vampires in America.
However, I felt a bit let down by the conclusion to this one. We had some nice build up, with attacks and tracking by the enemy. But when the final showdown came, it was….anti-climatic. After the build up I was expecting more.
It was nice having Cyn and Raphael be the center point for this story and it works with all the secrets being revealed. We now know more about what is going on and why.

I’m excited to read more in this series. I like where it’s going and I know the tension will be strung tight!

Vampires In America, Book 1

Malibu, California—home to rock-and-roll gods and movie stars, the beautiful, the rich . . . and vampires. Powerful and charismatic, Raphael is a Vampire Lord, one of the few who hold the power of life and death over every vampire in existence. Thousands call him Master and have pledged absolute loyalty on their very lives. But when, in a brazen and deadly daylight attack, a gang of human killers kidnaps the one female vampire he’d give his life for, Raphael turns to a human investigator to find his enemies before it’s too late. Cynthia Leighton is smart, tough and sexy, a private investigator and former cop who’s tired of spying on cheating spouses and digging out old bank accounts. When Raphael asks for her help in tracking down the kidnappers, Cyn’s happy to accept. But she soon realizes her greatest danger comes not from the humans, but from Raphael himself. Battling Russian mobsters and treacherous vampires, and betrayed by those they trusted, Cyn and Raphael find themselves fighting for their lives while caught up in a passion of blood and violence that is destined to destroy them both.

Vampires In America, Book 2
Houston, Texas—Cowboy boots, baseball and journeys to the stars . . . right? Wrong. Because Houston is also home to Jabril Karim, one of the eight powerful Vampire Lords who control all of North America. And as Private Investigator Cynthia Leighton will soon discover, not all Vampire Lords are created equal. For Jabril is the face of evil in the new world, a vampire who values no life but his own, who enslaves those he desires, steals whatever he covets and destroys anyone who stands in his way. Running from L.A. and its seductive Vampire Lord, Raphael, Cyn sees the Houston job as a welcome refuge, a place to get away and heal her broken heart. But Texas will be no vacation. For in Jabril Karim, Cyn will confront a true enemy, one who will go to any lengths to satisfy his lusts, enrich his coffers and expand his power. Fighting for the lives of two young sisters, Cyn’s journey will take her through the streets of Houston and back to L.A., where the human police are determined to bring Raphael down for the murder of one of their own. But the danger doesn’t end there. For Jabril has set his sights on Cyn, and he will stop at nothing to have her.

Vampires In America, Book 3
Buffalo, New York—Thundering waterfalls, great sports teams . . . and a treacherous Vampire Lord who is slowly losing his mind. New York City vampire Rajmund Gregor is the undisputed master of The Big Apple. He bows to no one but his Sire, the Vampire Lord Krystof, who has ruled the Northeast for hundreds of years. But when Krystof summons Rajmund to his headquarters in Buffalo, Raj finds his master slowly descending into madness and his territory crumbling around him. Raj is the only one of Krystof’s children strong enough to seize power, but he’ll have to save his master before he can destroy him. Several women have gone missing and the local police are convinced a vampire is behind it. Is Krystof so lost to reality that he’s capturing and murdering human women? Is a rogue vampire moving into Krystof’s territory for the kill? Or is it something far more insidious, something that could threaten the existence of vampires everywhere? Sarah Stratton is living a lie. Her past holds a secret she shares with no one—not even her good friend Cynthia Leighton, the West Coast vampire lord’s mate. It’s a secret that could destroy her carefully constructed life as a professor at a Buffalo university. It’s also a secret that could save the lives of the missing women. To save them, however, she must enter Buffalo’s vampire community and put herself into the care of Rajmund Gregor. But can she trust Raj, the dangerously seductive vampire who wants to lay claim to far more than her secrets?

Vampires In America, Book 4
The Pacific Northwest . . . home to lush forests and constant rain, to lumberjacks and computer geeks, especially those of the vampire kind. Sophia, beautiful and deadly, has spent the last hundred years dancing her way through the balmy nights and hot-blooded men of South America. But when her Sire sends an urgent summons, Sophia rushes home to Vancouver only to find he has disappeared, leaving nothing behind but three dead vampires and a letter with Sophia’s name on it. Colin Murphy, a former Navy SEAL, came to the Northwest seeking a quiet place to heal the scars earned in more than a decade at war. But when someone starts killing local vampires and torturing their mates, Colin takes on the mantle of a warrior once again as he sets out to find the killers and do whatever it takes to stop them, even if that means hunting with vampires. Following her Sire’s trail of death to a small town in northern Washington, Sophia unexpectedly discovers the heat of a South American night in Colin’s arms. But too soon Sophia and Colin find themselves in a race to uncover the killers before the next dead vampire becomes Sophia herself.

Vampires In America, Book 5
Washington, D.C. … capital of an empire. Powerful. Exhilarating. Corrupt. And in the shadows … vampires far older than the nation itself. A power unto himself, Duncan has served at Raphael’s side for a hundred and fifty years. But long laid plans have finally borne fruit, and the time has come for Duncan to leave Raphael and tackle the greatest challenge of his life. He will face treacherous vampires and murderous humans. He will rock the halls of human power if necessary. But Washington, D.C. will be his. Emma Duquet cares nothing for vampire politics. She just wants to find her missing roommate and best friend, Lacey. But Lacey’s been playing with vampires of a particularly dangerous kind, and Emma will have to deal with the new vampire in town if she’s going to find her friend. Battling powerful enemies who will stop at nothing to keep their secrets, Duncan and Emma will dig beneath the corruption and depravity that is Washington, D.C. and uncover the most heinous conspiracy of all.

Vampires In America, Book 5.1
Nine stories of seduction and intrigue set in the Vampires in America universe. For the first time in print … The Vampire Vignettes, originally appearing on D. B. Reynolds’ blog, some of the Vignettes are mere glimpses of life between the books, sensual interludes from New Year’s Eve on the beaches of Malibu, to love in a penthouse over Manhattan. Others continue the stories told in the books, including a challenge fought on a snowy night in Montreal. And all of them take the reader behind the scenes with the author’s ultimate alpha Vampire Lords and their beautiful and independent mates. And Never Before Published – Two brand new, full-length short stories. You Belong To Me follows Duncan and his mate Emma as they consolidate power in his new territory, while generating plenty of heat in private. And then it’s time for The Wedding, as readers join Rajmund and Sarah for their big weekend … and Cyn’s girls-night-out bachelorette party. Unfortunately, some local kidnappers have other plans, and Cyn and Sarah will have to outwit their abductors before Raphael and Raj start hunting, and the entire wedding is ruined!

Vampires In America, Book 5.5
Love, the ache in your heart when you meet the one. It can take you to soaring heights; and it can leave you bleeding in the wreckage. Loyalty, the thing which binds a Vampire Lord to his children for eternity . . . unless it rots from within, birthing hatred. Betrayal, it comes in many forms and from many sources…love…loyalty…betrayal. War has come to the North American vampires, and Vampire Lords are reaching across territorial lines to strengthen allies and weaken enemies. The most powerful Lord of them all, Raphael, could change the course of the war and determine who raises the final banner of victory. But at what price? And will his mate, Cyn, be the one to pay it?

Vampires In America, Book 6
THE BADLANDS of SOUTH DAKOTA . . . haunting landscapes, legendary outlaws, and . . . vampires? LUCAS DONLON, Vampire Lord, is one of the most powerful vampires in North America and beyond. Charming and irreverent to his friends and lovers, he enjoys everything about his life as a vampire. But when a neighboring lord makes the mistake of declaring war, he quickly discovers that Lucas is every bit as lethal as he is charming. KATHRYN HUNTER doesn’t care about powerful vampires or their wars. Her baby brother is missing and she will do anything to find him, even if it means going against both her FBI bosses and the local vampire lord. But Lucas Donlon has other plans for the lovely FBI agent who’s landed on his doorstep. Waging war against their enemies and each other, Lucas and Kathryn will risk everything to keep the most deadly vampire war in hundreds of years from engulfing every vampire, and human, in North America.

Review: Running to You by DeLaine Roberts

Running to You is the story of pharmaceutical rep Alexandra Morrison and Dr. Grayson Brooks. The attraction between them is immediate and explosive. Alexandra and Grayson are instantly attracted to each other. But their relationship is taboo. She’s signed a morals clause and if her relationship with Grayson gets out it could cost her everything.
Things never go as planned. After receiving a terrible shock, Alexandra suffers a stroke. Instead of leaning on Grayson, like she should, she pushes him away. Thus begins a vicious cycle. Grayson tries to help, Alexandra either pushes him away or runs away from him.
Finally, they work things out.  This is how their relationship goes:
Alexandra is crying.
Brooks: What’s wrong?
Alexandra: Nothing, I’m happy.
Brooks: I love you.
Alexandra: I love you too.
Rinse and Repeat.
It seems like every conversation/intimate moment ended with them fighting, Alexandra running or pushing Grayson away or Alexandra crying. Enter the conversation:
Brooks: What’s wrong?
Alexandra: Nothing, I’m happy.
Brooks: I love you.
Alexandra: I love you too.
I’m all for couple expressing their love for each other. I just felt like all they ever talked about in the second half of the book was I love you, I love you, I love you.

The ending felt like it came out of left field. There was one brief mention of Alexandra’s safety early in the book, then nothing. Then, BAM! Problem with her safety at the end. It didn’t seem to fit with the rest of the story.

Review: Sins & Needles by Karina Halle

As I sit here and contemplate Sins and Needles I’m trying to figure out where to start. All the reviews I read were AMAZING! AWESOME! So, I picked up the book and was expecting……something more.  I try not read books while they’re being so hyped up because I’m afraid I’ll be expecting more. I think that’s what happened for me here with Sins and Needles.
Don’t get me wrong. It’s a good book. It’s just not AMAZING or AWESOME.
I was intrigued with Ellie and the life she led. She’s certainly no princess or an innocent. But she’s definitely likable. I ended up in a conundrum with her. She’s a grafter. A con. She steals for a living and spends most of her life on the run. Of course that’s all she knows. That’s what her parents taught her. However, she knows it’s wrong but she still does it. She says she wants to go legit and start over. But when things get rough, she goes right back to grifting.
Camden is intriguing in his own way. He was a loner in High School. He used to be friends with Ellie until she humiliated him. Now they’re back together and Camden is hot! Hot! Hot!  He’s tattooed and pierced and a complete bad boy!
Camden and Ellie are quite the pair.
I enjoyed this story, but I wasn’t enthralled with it. I’ll definitely read the other two in the trilogy because I have to know what happens.

The trip to the airport took about 45 minutes—enough time to transform my outfit and freshen up for him. Once we got to the airport, we didn’t have to wait at all. He was standing outside in a gray suit with a white button down shirt, already unbuttoned due to the heat. Bernard waved at him and he stepped up to the right side of the door to get in.
“Hi,” I said shyly.
“Hi, baby. Wow. You look amazing, as always.”
The blazer had come off and the four-inch leopard print shoes were on. The skirt looked much shorter on me without the blazer. I slid toward him as he grabbed me and placed me on top of his lap.
“Happy Anniversary,” he whispered sensually into my ear. His nose traced a line from my jaw to my neck and his fingers softly rubbed the inside of my thigh.
I giggled nervously.  His touch felt so good, so safe.
“One month down, 959 more to go,” he groaned, his hands now on my back, pulling me close.
“That’s 80 years, A.”
“I’m in love with a math genius.”

Jerk. Asshole. Douchenozzle. Admit it- you hate to love the jerks. That alpha male character who is so arrogant and rude but sexy as hell. That foul mouthed douche bag of a man who rocks your traitorous heart. We’ve all read them and we’ve all liked them to some extent. In real life you wouldn’t touch the man with a ten foot pole. But in the fictional world? Nothing can stand in the way! Everyone would be lying to themselves if they didn’t admit that the meaner the man, the further we run… Towards them! *sigh*

That’s what this weekly meme is about- those jerky delicious men! Each Friday this meme will go up, and you can share your jerk anyway you want: review, interview, lines and quotes, giveaway of a book. However you want! All you have to do is sign up

Three Rules:

1. Do not touch The Elect.
2. Do not look at The Elect.
3. Do not speak to The Elect.
What do you do when The Elect know more about you than you do? What do you do when The Elect know secrets about you that affect your life?
That’s what happens to Tracey.
Tracey wins the annual scholarship lottery and head off to college at Eagle Elite. What’s she expects and what she gets are two different things.
Tracey meets Nixon the first day she’s there. He’s a complete ass to her. Making fun of her, being mean to her, he makes the snotty rich girls look nice!
Tracey doesn’t understand. She doesn’t know Nixon, so why would he be mean to her. Right as she begins to figure things out, they change. Nixon is protecting her. She doesn’t understand it. He protects her in weird ways.
One minute he’s nice to her, the next he’s a complete jerk. He says it to protect her. Over and over he humiliates her in front of others. Yet, when someone else is mean to her, he steps in to save her. Then there are the times they’re alone. He’s amazingly sweet. He does things that put him at risk, just to make her happy.
No talks about Nixon. No one defies Nixon. People call him sir and give him the respect of someone older. Slowly, things start to fall in place.
I have to admit I loved this story. It was not what I was expecting. I was expecting something along the lines of Cruel Intentions. Instead I got something more.
Now, I have to admit, I had figured out part of it pretty early on. There were lots of clues and it didn’t take much to figure it out. There were some others things that I don’t have enough information on to figure out yet. I’m hoping we’ll get more information in the next book!
We are left with a slight cliffhanger. I need to know what’s going on, but at least for now Nixon and Tracey are together.
I was a bit surprised by the way Tracey handled everything. I thought she handled things remarkably well. Everything she thought was the truth about her, turns out to be false. Her whole world has been turned up side down, yet she’s handling it really well. Maybe, it was because by the time she found out, she had started to figure it out on her own.
All I can say is I’m glad my college wasn’t like that! I would have run screaming from there as fast as my legs could carry me!
