That First Kiss kept me enthralled till the wee hours of the morning.
Piper Donovan had one last shot before calling it quits and heading home to her dead-end town; something she truly wanted to avoid. She’s hired on as an assistant to Tate Larson, a hard-ass, narcissistic, demanding author who fires her on the spot. One would think he fires her because she turns out to be the one-night stand he had over the weekend; but, nope that’s not it. After barking an order for her to fetch him some coffee and a pastry, he fires her for being late. According to his neurotic time keeping if you’re not at work ten minutes before your start time, then you are late. After a pep talk from a co-worker, Piper returns to confront him and refuses to back down.
Piper and Tate continually bump heads. Add to that some sexual chemistry than nether one of them acts on and you get one heck of a good story. Somewhere along the way they both develop stronger feelings for each other, but Piper won’t risk her job and Tate isn’t look for anything more than one night.
Tate has his reasons for the way he is. Until you learn those reasons though, I felt so bad for Piper. She was falling hard for him. She spends just about every waking moment with the man. She no longer has time for her own life because she’s too busy keeping him on task with his. My heart sank for her a few times. I don’t think Tate saw what he was doing to her. He was too busy caught up in his own resistance and fear to anything resembling a relationship.
By the time he realizes how he feels about her, it might be too late. His poor timing and her lack of communication may just be their undoing.
This is book 2 in the Night Calls series, but can be read out of order. Honestly, I didn’t know there was a book 1 till I was nearly at the end and my interest was piqued by another couple in the book. I thought okay I want their story, its gotta be the next book. Well I’m more than pleasantly surprised to find out they were in book 1. So I guess I know what my one click finger will be clicking next.
