Review: Polished by Alyssa Turner

Menage stories are interesting as they add something new to a relationship. This something new can be good or it can be bad. It all depends on the communication and expectations of the those participating.
Polished by Alyssa Turner explores what happens when a loving couple explores a ménage experience. But this experience is thrown in with a little light BDSM.
Spencer and Rory are loving couple who have everything going for them. They almost lose it all when Spencer gets trapped below ground in an explosion with Jack. It’s during the time they’re trapped below ground that Jack and Spencer form a bond.
Jack ends up inviting Spencer and Rory to his house in the Hamptons. It’s during that time they explore a little BDSM with their ménage. It was interesting how it came about and I really enjoyed the way they jumped into things. It was hot and it was intense.
When things didn’t work out as planned, Spencer and Rory end up cutting Jack out of their lives. What they find after that is their relationship is different. Something is now missing.
I like how Alyssa showed the other side of those fantasies and living them out. While they’re great at the time, they can seriously impact an existing relationship that doesn’t have any problems. That impact can be positive or negative. It has the ability to bring a couple closer or tear them apart. It all depends on the couple and their communication skills and the strength of their bond.

Jack proved to be a powerful character. He realized what was wrong in his life an set about changing it. He took control and did what needed to be done. He also went after what he wanted. He didn’t let anything stand in his way.

Jerk of My Dreams(& a giveaway!!) #33

Jerk. Asshole. Douchenozzle. Admit it- you hate to love the jerks. That alpha male character who is so arrogant and rude but sexy as hell. That foul mouthed douche bag of a man who rocks your traitorous heart. We’ve all read them and we’ve all liked them to some extent. In real life you wouldn’t touch the man with a ten foot pole. But in the fictional world? Nothing can stand in the way! Everyone would be lying to themselves if they didn’t admit that the meaner the man, the further we run… Towards them! *sigh*

That’s what this weekly meme is about- those jerky delicious men! Each Friday this meme will go up, and you can share your jerk anyway you want: review, interview, lines and quotes, giveaway of a book. However you want! Any time you comment on someones post, leave your link so that person can comment back.

K.A. Linde has stopped by my favorite day of the week on the blog- Jerk Friday! K.A. is a lover of jerks herself, so it’s only fitting she’s here today. Not only has she offered a paperback arc, but a teaser to OFF THE RECORD as well!

Liz Dougherty has no idea a single question is about to change her life.

Her first big reporting assignment for her North Carolina college newspaper has her covering a state senator’s impromptu press conference. Brady Maxwell may have everything it takes to be a politician—a winning pedigree, devastating good looks, a body made to wear suits—but his politics rub Liz the wrong way. When Liz’s hard-hitting question catches the upstart senator off-guard, it impresses Hayden Lane, Liz’s editor who feels she’s headed for a promising career as a reporter.

But Liz is also headed into a secret romance with Brady that could destroy both their ambitions. Though he’s a bachelor, potential voters might frown on Brady cozying up to a reporter. And Liz isn’t sure sneaking around is enough for her—especially when things between her and Hayden might be less platonic than she thought.

Sleek, sexy, and smart, Off the Record ventures into a high-stakes campaign and an even higher-stakes affair to answer the question: When politics and love collide, can there ever be a winner?

“You don’t want to see me?”
He apparently seemed amused at the thought. He knew she wanted to see him.
“I do,” she corrected. She couldn’t lie about that. “But I don’t know why you had to bring me here at seven o’clock in the morning to tell me that. Why didn’t you just come to my place yesterday?” “Because I can’t see you when you want to see me,” Brady told her, pushing his diner coffee away and meeting her eyes. Hers were already narrowed.
“But you can see me when you want to?”
“Yes.” He didn’t even try to hide behind his charming words.
“Why? I don’t get it.”
“I want to see you, but in the position I’m . . . we’re in, it’s not possible,” he told her.
“What, because you’re running for office?” She knew she sounded incredulous, but it made sense. He wouldn’t want to risk anything . . . especially not on a woman, no matter his big talk.
“And you’re a reporter . . . a college reporter,” he reminded her.
“And I wrote that article,” she said filling in the blanks.
“You did,” Brady confirmed. “While I don’t mind you pointing out my faults, the campaign and my opponents will see it as me giving up the nomination.”
“Why are you here then?” she asked, her anger mounting once more.
“Because I still want you. Weeks later, I still want you. And you want me too.”
Liz’s stomach dropped and all the anger she had been holding dissipated. He wanted her. She knew he did, but hearing it like that was intoxicating. She didn’t want to give him up. She was having a fucking hard time even concentrating on anything else.
“So, you want me, but you can’t see me?”
“I can’t see you on your terms,” he corrected.
“What does that even mean?” Liz asked, raising her voice.
“Look, I want us to continue what we’re doing, but in private. I don’t want to jeopardize my career . . . or your career,” he added quickly.
Liz breathed in and out deeply, realizing finally what he was saying. “You want a fuck buddy,” she stated as bluntly as possible. If he was going to be all out in the open, she wanted plain words. She wanted to know what he was offering . . . what kind of deal she was willing to take. He sighed as if she was misinterpreting, but she was sure she wasn’t.
“That’s not what I had in mind,” he said.
“No? That’s what it sounds like. So, what kind of situation is this?” she asked, her anger resurfacing. She didn’t even know where it came from, because it wasn’t as if she didn’t want to sleep with him, and it wasn’t as if she didn’t want to keep it a secret. Some innate trigger in her brain was firing and she was listening.
“Do you get to sleep with other people? Are you going to be dating someone who fits you better in the spotlight? Should I find someone else to date in the meantime?”
“Liz,” he snapped, cutting off whatever she was going to say next. “I’m not here to argue the point. I’m not here to discuss terms. I want you, and I want you anytime I can have you. That happens to be a much more limited time frame. If you aren’t interested, then good luck with your paper.”
He pulled out his wallet, threw two twenties on the table, and stood.

I’m thinking I should’ve read my ARC when I appeared on my kindle last year. After this teaser, looks like I’ll be starting it very soon!

K.A. Linde is giving away one paperback arc of OFF THE RECORD. In order to be entered in the giveaway, please leave a comment with your email address. Blog Review Tour & Giveaway: Loving Cara (Love Under the Big Sky #1) by Kristen Proby

Loving Cara was the perfect blend of romance, heat, angst and emotion. Kristen Proby has swooned me with her new series, Love Under the Big Sky. S-W-O-O-N-E-D me!
Josh King and Cara Donovan have grown up together in a small town in Montana. Two years ahead of her, Josh never really noticed Cara before. Sure he use to pull on her curls in passing, but that was about it. Years later however, they are both all grown up and settled into their adult lives. Josh has taken over for his parents and runs the Lazy K Ranch. Cara works as a teacher in town. An unfortunate circumstance has them crossing paths. Josh definitely takes notice of Cara now. Long gone is the curly haired plain Jane from their school days. Now, standing before him is a breathtaking curvy blonde full of sass and heart. And well, who’s not noticed Josh. He’s 6’3”, tanned, muscular and incredibly hot.

This one truly pulled at my heartstrings. Let me just take a moment first to cover what brings Josh and Cara together. His twelve-year old nephew, Seth, is unexpectedly dropped at the ranch. Seth’s mother abandons him while Seth’s dad, Zack, is deployed in Afghanistan. Of course this is going to play emotional havoc on a young boy. Not caring about much of anything including his grades, prompts Josh to seek tutoring help over the summer for him. Cara is a positive light for Seth. With her help, he gets his grades back on track and curbs his disrespectful attitude towards everyone. However, it’s not until after Seth’s dad returns that some light is shed on the things his mother told him. At that moment my heart broke. It struck a strong personal cord with me. Ugly tears were streaming down my face with the lies his monster of a mother fed him and the animosity that he developed for his dad. Ugh, I’m crying now just thinking of it again. Ms. Proby wrote an amazing heart wrenching scene there. I know Seth and his dad still have things to work on. Seth himself as more to reveal later in the story; as if my heart couldn’t break enough for this kid. I’m truly looking forward to Zack’s story.

Okay, on to Josh and Cara. I smile now, just thinking of what a great love story it was. They’d known each other their whole lives, but it’s not until years later they see each other in a different light. The romance between them just felt so natural.

“No measure of time with you will ever be long enough, Cara.”

Of course what’s a romance book without some torment. Once again, Ms. Proby had my heart in my throat when a bad storm rolls through town and almost puts an end to something before it could fully start. She captured the emotion of the situation perfectly. I felt the spike in my adrenaline as Cara reacts to get out of harms way and then again when Josh was desperately in search of her. What played out from there was sensual and beautiful. Josh is so smooth and attentive; in and out of the bedroom.

“You own me, Carolina. Body and soul.”

While, Cara may have grown into a beauty, sadly she still sees herself as the girl from the past. This opens the door for uncertainty to seep in. You’d think by now Ms. Proby would have thrown enough angst at as, but nope. She took me on some highs and lows with this one. To the very end. I refused to leave my Kindle. I needed to know what happened next. It was well worth the lost hours of sleep.

I have to add. In true Kristen Proby fashion, she brought her characters to life. These people exist! And I fell absolutely in love with them; from Josh and Cara, Zack and Seth, to other characters I haven’t even mentioned cause this review would never end if I did. I’m excited and cannot wait for more in this series.

Review: Archer’s Voice by Mia Sheridan

MIA SHERIDAN WRITES SPECTACULAR FAIRY TALES. You know that meme that gets posted on Facebook: I still love to read fairy tales… they are just a little dirtier now. I. LOVE. THESE. BOOKS.

This is a story of resilience and hope. It feels inspiring as well as heartbreaking, and along with that the couple has serious chemistry. I just loved this story. I was immersed and captivated by the plot, the characters, and the town. I just really fell head over heels for this one.

It should go without saying that I continue to love what this author has put out there. The story is another magical one that is a page turner. It will have you holding your breath at times, crying, “No! Just no!” Seriously, I was so wrapped up in Bree and Archer that I yelled out loud NO in my whiniest voice, sat the book down, took a deep breath, and picked it back up. Really who was I kidding, I had to man up and find out what happened! So this one snagged me big time.

Loved Bree.
Loved Archer.
Loved their romance.
Wanted to kick a villain or two in the crotch.
Consider me a sucker for this story.

This author does emotional in the sweetest way. She will push you ever so gently toward that point of heartbreak, but then profoundly puts it all back together with the grace and beauty of her words. If you want to feel completely awestruck with the big picture, then she’s your go to girl.

Archer. Man what a paradox. He’s vulnerable, innocent, and inexperienced in relationships, but at the exact same time he is primal, moody, possessive, and competitive in his affections for Bree. He definitely is attractive, even though at first you may question that. Give him a chance and you’ll find yourself smitten. So know that the wounded puppy has some bite and may be a little dangerous. He’s completely misunderstood by everyone in the town, except for Bree who sees right through it and trusts her instincts.

What you can expect from Mia Sheridan’s books are genuinely likeable heroines. Bree is warm, funny, and silly, while also being persistent and resilient. She is a character that I could just be friends with and that made spending time with this book and the story that much more enjoyable.

The connection between these two characters is kismet. Strong, unyielding, passionate, intense. They are truly meant for each other and the universe just needed to show them the way to each other.

I really loved how the author tied in the Sagittarius sign and the mythology into the present day story. She did this also in the others in this series, and it was executed well again in this book. The story flows effortlessly. I was captivated and reading with a huge smile on my face. This author has continued to be one of my favorites. I am so happy that I have yet to be let down by any of her four releases. It seems that each story in this series has set out to try something different with the relationships’ dynamics. You continue to read something fresh and new from this author every time. She’s taking chances, I like it and the results.

The setting felt dreamlike. A beautiful lake front cabin in the northeast, located in a quaint little town that has a cast of characters that leave an indelible mark. The author built a beautiful scenery to allow the characters to inhabit. Even Bree’s little dog Phoebe has her own little personality, and reminded me of a little Toto.

The steam factor? Helloooo! Uh, Wow! I’m blushing. Yeah it’s got it. Any questions? Get the cold shower ready, you’ll need it.

Even though Archer may not look like your stereotypical romance hero, go in with an open mind. If not, you just might miss the true beauty of this book. Love, connection, and attraction doesn’t always come packaged the way you want it to, and this book will demonstrate that. The blurb lists Archer as “silent”. I’ll leave it at that and let you discover the story yourself, but needless to say, it plays a dynamic part in the book. One that Bree finds a way to overcome, but will Archer?

These characters have big hurdles to overcome as individuals, but watching them work through it while falling for each other is powerful. It’s coming of age with an enchanted feel to the journey. You will truly enjoy this one and fall in love.

We live in a world of darkness and shadows, where monsters hide and aim to ruin.
And they did.
They ruined us and turned our dreams into nightmares.
But now we’re back.
And we’re fighting.

Blog Review Tour & Giveaway: Used (Unlovable #1) by Lynetta Halat

Denver is a barrel racer, a college student, and a slut if you listen to what people say about her.  She deserves her reputation because it’s in her blood to be this way.  She doesn’t deny who she is.  She isn’t worthy of love.  Everything that has happened to her is her fault right? The one person who doesn’t hold it against her is her best friend Greer, he is also in love with Denver and wants to make their relationship work.  Is Denver willing to give them a chance this time?
Greer is a calf roper and grew up with Denver.  They have been best friends since they were babies.  He would do anything for her, even if it means that he can’t have her the way he wants.  He is willing to start fresh now that they are away from home and at the same college together.
Ransom is the champion bull rider of their team.  He is your typical man whore, but when he meets Denver there is something that makes him want to change his ways.  Ransom at first didn’t know of the rumors that surrounds Denver but when he learns of them will he care or will he think that she is the slut she claims to be.
Love. Hate. Friendship. Rumors. Lies. Betrayal.
The perception of yourself and what others see you as is a powerful thing.  It can make you feel beautiful, smart, funny or sexy if it is a positive perception.  It can make you feel ugly, stupid, or even make you think that you are a slut and unworthy of love if it is a negative perception.  It can mold you and change who you are if you believe it.
Denver really believes that she is a slut, she even makes you want to believe it yourself.  According to her, being a slut or a whore is in her DNA especially if you look at her mom.  The only things that she is proud of is her standing as a barrel racer, she is in the number 1 spot and she isn’t arrogant about it, she is just that damn good.  She tries to stay strong and not let the rumors and catty comments that surround her get to her, but once a secret is revealed, one that is so painful she is no longer able to just keep it all inside.  Add to that a betrayal like no other and Denver can no longer keep all that pain inside.  I really felt for Denver, no one deserves what she has gone through in her life.
Greer is Denver’s Golden Boy.  He was been her best friend, the one person she could count on through thick and thin.  He is hot, sexy, protective of Denver and wants her to finally be his.  They have had more than a friendship for years and he was fine with that but now he wants more.  You can tell how much he wants her and loves her.  He lets her use him for sex, friendship anything she wants.  Then he does the unthinkable and makes me want to beat the shit out of him.  I don’t know if he is redeemable at this point, we will have to wait and see.
Ransom, he is the bad boy.  The man whore.  The bull rider.  The one that is under Denver’s skin and at first wants Denver too.  Then he is an asshole to her, judging her, treating her like shit, but yet he can’t stop thinking about her.  He doesn’t want to want her, he will begin to think the rumors about Denver aren’t true but then something will happen to make him believe again.  Yet he doesn’t actually talk to Denver about them, he just judges her like everyone else.  When he is there for Denver after the betrayal that breaks her, he won me over.  There is more to Ransom than meets the eye.  He can be an asshole, but let’s face it what man isn’t an asshole at some point, but he isn’t an asshole.  I want Ransom to be the one for Denver.

Holy fucking shit, this book will piss you off something fierce at times.  I wanted to sit Denver down and make her see that what she thought of herself isn’t true.  I was calling Greer and Ransom as many variations of an asshole that I could think of and wanted to throw my kindle against the wall.  Do the words mind fuck mean anything to you?  Remember the whole perception thing?  Well, everything isn’t what it seems.  Then to make you even more pissed off, it ends in a cliff hanger!  Yes you read that right so of course that started a whole new cursing rant to begin, but you what, I don’t even really mind that it is a cliffhanger.  I just want more of Denver, Greer and Ransom.  I. Want. Them. Right. Now. Damn. It.  I was sucked in from the start and I don’t know if I can wait long for the next book to be released.  I am a huge fan of Lynetta Halat, but damn it if I don’t want to yell at her and say why woman why would you leave us hanging like this?  It is that feeling right there, the feeling that if you don’t get the next book right away, that makes this a must read because you are sucked in and want to see how this messed up love triangle will work out.  Used is one that fans of Lynetta Halat will love and must read.

Review: Faded Cotton and Siddy Creek by Lara Lee Sweety

Faded Cotton is story of intrigue, mystery, suspense and second chances. Laurel MacClain is arrested for crimes she didn’t commit. While sitting in a jail cell, she’s kidnapped out the cell, along with the captain of the police force, and taken to an island for protection.
Their protectors? Laurel’s old boyfriend and his team of Navy SEALS. Second chances for some, new romances for others, and friends become lovers while they try to unravel the mystery surrounding Laurel and the police captain.
Laurel is an amazing woman. Her capacity for love and forgiveness are know no bounds. We should all aspire to be more like her. She’s open, accepting and there for any who need her.
Jake is the Navy SEAL that still loves Laurel. He would do anything for her. He made mistakes many years ago and is doing everything he can to win her back and take care of her.
The other characters in the book are just as wonderful. They’re full of life, passionate and make life interesting.
While I really enjoyed this story, I had a hard time following the story at the beginning. There are so many people introduced in the beginning, plus the mystery, arrest, kidnapping…you have to really think and follow carefully.

I’m dying to know what happens to everyone as they return to Misouri. Do they all get their HEA? Do their romances keep burning bright?
Siddy Creek picks up right where Faded Cotton leaves off. They’ve solved the mystery, brought those to justice that should be and they’re ready to move on. The boys have all left to take care of business and the women are home facing the trial of the guilty parties together.
The boys do come back to Siddy Creek and they plan on taking care of their women. The problem? All their women are independent and not used to anyone taking care of them.
Each them has to learn to negotiate relationships. Relationships between friends, family and lovers.
The characters in this series are fascinating. The main character Laurel has a deep capacity for love and forgiveness. She has the ability to see her own flaws and do something about it.
The remaining characters are interesting and fun to watch.  I enjoy how this series is about all the characters. Their lives and romances aren’t happening in a vacuum, one at a time. They’re going on at the same time. They’re all going through different things with their relationships as they’re all in different places in their lives.
We’re left with a bit of a cliffhanger. Nothing dramatic, just enough to make you curious about what happens next.
I’m looking forward the next book in the series. It should be interesting!

Blog Tour and Giveaway: It’s Not Over (The Do Over #2) by A.L. Zaun

Rick Marin is an asshole to put it simply.  He tried to win back his ex-girlfriend when he knew that she had finally moved on from him and was happy.  He used a friendship to help make this happen.  He wanted Dani back and even accepted the help from Madison “Maddy” Stuart to do so.  What he did anticipate was what he began to feel for Maddy, the biggest bitch and best friend he has ever had.  Now he can’t live without her even when she drives him insane.

Maddy is all Team Rick, until she isn’t anymore.  Maddy is a vicious bitch at times, and doesn’t do relationships. She made Rick her pet project.  She can’t sit back any longer and watch Rick win over Dani any longer.  She began to feel more than just friendship for him and she has her own problems to deal with that are more important than her heart.  She is so driven in wanting to reach her career goal that she would sacrifice her happiness.

Rick, oh Rick you are an asshole but I wouldn’t love you any other way.  He knew who he really wanted and couldn’t live without and it wasn’t Dani.  No it was the castrating threatening, ball busting bitch that is his best friend.  He knows Maddy is the one for him but convincing her to not only trust him with her body and secrets but her heart as well isn’t an easy thing to accomplish.  He isn’t used to having to chase someone he wants, but for Maddy he would do anything to make her his.

Maddy has reasons why she acts the way she does.  Her past has made her the way she is and until now her past didn’t matter to her, well except one thing that is.  She wants to prove to her family that she can handle and be successful in opening the next restaurant in Miami but there are conditions.  Sadly these conditions require her to work with someone from her past, Alex, who is bound and determined to get Maddy back in his bed.

I actually loved Rick in The Do Over even with him being the asshole that he was, but in It’s Not Over he completely won me over.  He is the jerk you love to hate, the one you know that when he finally finds the one woman that is perfect for him that he will move heaven and earth for her.  Maddy is a massive bitch, and after a while it gets old her constantly telling Rick how to behave or threatening to cut off his dick or balls.  Honestly Maddy was not one of my favorite people, in fact I actually kind of hate her.  Lately I am finding that it is the male main character that is making the book worth reading and not the female, maybe it is just the way they are being written or a mood that I am in, but for me Rick is what made the book.

I did really like this book, even though there is a cliff hanger.  In a way I wish Rick and Maddy’s story would have been completed because I want to see what is in store for the other characters in this series.   But, I shall wait patiently to see where Ms. Zaun is going to take us on this journey.  Pick this series up, I think you will enjoy it.

We hit a little turbulence, and reality set in at thirty thousand feet. I was on an airplane, holding Madison in my arms, on my way to New York City. I looked around, taking everything in, and I caught the flight attendant, sitting across from us, eye-fucking me. She smiled as she lowered her eyes to my dick. I wondered if she was imagining a threesome. What else could she be thinking, gawking at me, while I’m holding another woman? Somehow, I knew that my conclusion would land me in a new category of asshole. Surprisingly though, I wasn’t the least bit interested in even entertaining the fantasy. I want Madison exclusively.
My heart pounded faster, and my mouth went dry. I hadn’t admitted that to myself or any other living soul. I grabbed the bottled water and drank it in one gulp. I can’t stand her half the time. She drives me crazy. She infuriates me like no one else. But I felt something for her that I couldn’t describe. It was more than wanting to bury my dick in her and fuck her hard…I couldn’t live without her. Fuck, fuck, fuck.
She shifted against me, sliding her hand inside my jacket. Reclining my head back against the seat, thoughts of her flooded my mind. Somehow, along my quest to win Daniela back, Madison had become my best friend and something more.

Liam Lucas’s words hit me like a tsunami. Your friend is more than a friend. You don’t go up against your brother over a chick unless she’s under your skin, and if you aren’t sleeping with her, then you’ve got it bad.

Griffin has wanted Sam since the first time he ever saw her and was heartbroken when he found out what she went through.  He let his inactions before allow her to slip through his fingers but it will not happen again if he has anything to say about it.  He knows that he has to be cautious and patient with Sam but when threats against her begin he will be damned if she ever is hurt again.  The only problem?  Sam thinks she can handle everything herself.

Sam needed to heal and her going away allowed her to do that.  When she returns home she knows that she has Ever and Hunter there to help her and be there for her to finish healing from the nightmare that she suffered.  Slowly the old Sam begins to emerge and when she does it’s almost like she yells out “I am back bitches” but she will never be the same person she was before the attack happened.

Griffin knew that he had to take his time with Sam and not only earn her trust but her heart as well.  I love the nickname he gives her because you find out it means more than what you are originally allowed to believe and it made me fall head over heels in love with Griffin.  He takes some matters into his own hands and while his actions were not the “right” thing to do it needed to be done and he handled it perfectly.    He was going to protect his girl and that’s what he does even when Sam makes him want to choke her himself when she acts like she does not need his help.

Sam at times really annoyed me because of how she acted and while I understand that victims process their healing and move on in their own way it was at times unbelievable the way she acted.  Maybe she just rubbed me the wrong way in this book because in Only For You I loved her character.  Griffin, I can only praise Griffin’s character and will say that he is one of my favorite new book boyfriends.  For me, he is what made me rate this book 4 stars, if he wasn’t the way he way I will be honest and say I probably would not have liked this book as much as I did.

Genna Rulon has written a topic that is one that is painful for too many survivors, but she has shown that with the right love whether it be from friends or the person who would love you unconditionally, that it is okay to heal and not let it define who you are.  As with Only For You, Pieces For You is not a typical romance by any means, it at times is painful to read due to the emotions surrounding this topic.  It is not only a book about being a survivor but friendship, love and not letting that person who hurt you win by living your life the way you want too and still being able to have your happily ever after.  I am anxiously awaiting to see where Ms. Rulon will take us in the next book of this series.
