Blog Tour Review: Breathe With Me (With Me in Seattle #7) by Kristen Proby

Sometimes you meet the right person at the wrong time…

Mark and Meredith were high-school sweethearts. They were each other’s firsts. They loved each other deeply, but at seventeen with future goals and dreams ahead how could it last? Devastating both their hearts, Meredith chose to embark on her future without Mark. Where she was headed and what she wanted to achieve she couldn’t bear any distractions. And that’s exactly what Mark was for her. A distraction.

…But true love has a way of finding its way back.
Fast forward ten years later and Meredith is back in town. A tragic event reunites her and Mark. When they see each other again, it’s like no time has passed. The feelings and knowledge of one another are still there. Stronger now with age and distance. But can they make it work? Is their time now or will Meredith walk away from Mark again?
“You are my biggest what if, M.”
Kristen Proby has a way of writing believable fiction. I forgot I was reading a romance novel and instead felt like I was witnessing two people meant to be together finally find their way to each other. She truly brings her characters to life.
Mark and Meredith never got over each other. There may have been lovers between their separation, but none came close to ever making it into their hearts. There wasn’t a moment that one didn’t think about the other.
“…It’s hard to forget someone who gave you so much to remember.”
But fear, not the chase of future dreams, may be their downfall this time around. Mark doesn’t trust that Meredith won’t leave him again. She’s chosen to leave him behind before. Meredith is terrified of losing him. After all, everyone she loves…dies. There’s a scene towards the end of this book where Meredith is faced with her fear. It is heart wrenching and painful to see what triggers her fear of loss. Kristen Proby had me curled in a ball, clutching my Kindle and bawling my eyes out. That particular scene really made me reflect on my own life and how fast things could change. I wanted to gather my kids and husband and just hold them, being that is was well past midnight at the time I let them sleep. But it was a good reminder of what not to take for granted.
“There were days…I would have exchanged a year of my life to touch you one more time.”
Of course Breathe With Me was full of steamy bedroom scenes that could have fogged up my glasses. Mark in the bedroom…yum! Alpha male, adoring, attentive. Oh the characters that reside in Ms. Proby’s head.
“I love you so much it hurts to breath, Meredith.”
One thing I’ve said time and again throughout my reviews of this series is I love how we see everyone. I mean every character from this series. We see their lives evolve. Babies born and children growing. We’re invited on the crazy, wild Girls Night Outs. And this book does not disappoint with the GNO. The Montgomery and Williams clans head to Vegas for a weekend. Yeah, let your imagination run from there.
The air smells of sweet liquor and bad choices as the girls laugh and high-five each other.
Overall this was a fantastic read and one not to miss. Only one more to go till the end of this amazing series. Thank you, Ms. Proby, for this wonderful journey you have kept us on. Until next time.

Blog Tour: Come Sundown by Chelsea Landon

Erin Evans is the kind of girl no guy wants to be in a relationship with. She’s controlling and never backs down when she thinks she’s right. Knowing this, and rightfully fearing her last few years in her twenties will be like the last five, she looks for some adventure. That’s when her best friend convinces her to go on vacation with her to the Bahamas. On the land of white sand, coconut rum, and a cloudless sky, what she never expects is to meet Tyler Weston, a local bartender with a sweet tongue for the pretty girls. He’s tattooed, entertaining, and living the dream in paradise as he sets her drinks and her world on fire. As the moon lights the city, Erin unexpectedly becomes infatuated with Tyler and his bartending skills when he offers her the challenge of trying his Black Magic drink her first night on Paradise Island. Hoping to get some more alone time with Tyler, she sets out on a mission to try every drink on the menu while on vacation. And after one night and one Black Magic drink, both of which she can barely remember, results into two weeks of exciting possibilities she never saw coming. Can Erin put aside her cynical side and let the dirty-mouthed bartender show her what island life and love are really like?
I had never been on a jet ski before, and after ten minutes of skimming over the gentle waves, I wasn’t sure I ever would again. Tyler thought it was hilarious to dump me off the back when I thought I saw a shark.
True, it wasn’t a shark, but a dolphin.
“Even the sharks won’t hurt you,” he said, still laughing as I clung to his back, fearing for my life.
“The fuck you say,” I wailed, refusing to even look at the playful dolphin nudging the side of the jet ski. “Where I come from, sharks bite.”
Tyler ignored me and reached down, running his hand over the dolphin’s nose. “He’s just curious about you.”
I wasn’t so sure about that but when we got to the swimming pigs, I had another momentary freak-out.
“Holy Jesus, are those pigs?” I was practically standing on the jet ski trying to distance myself from them.
Tyler looked up at me as he treaded water with them. “What do they look like?”
“Well I suppose they’re pigs then.” He rubbed the top of a gray and black one’s head.
“Jump in.” He gave a nod with his head, the pigs all around him now, like they were old friends.
I gave him a horrified look. “No. Pigs shouldn’t swim.”
“Says who?”
“Me. I say that.”
“Don’t be a pussy. It’s a fucking pig. He ain’t gonna bite.”
“He won’t?”
Tyler wouldn’t lie to me, would he?
“No.” He looked at me and his eyes darkened. “I might.”
Pigs apparently don’t bite. Well at least they didn’t bite me. They sniffed me and invaded my space, but no biting.
Being out in the water this way offered some sights you wouldn’t usually see on the beach. I saw pigs swimming, tasted a fresh pineapple, went through a secret canyon, kissed under another waterfall, and ran my hands over a stingray.
“I can’t believe how blue the water is,” I said, my chin resting on Tyler’s shoulder when we stopped about a half mile from the beach.
“It’s the way the light reflects off the water that gives it that clear blue appearance.”
My favorite part, maybe the most memorable?
I was straddling Tyler on his sun-drenched jet ski, when his palm met my breast over my bikini and I knew where it was heading again. His thumb grazed my nipple, his other hand brushing over my sun-sizzling skin until it was wrapped around my neck and pulling my kiss to his. My lashes fluttered closed. His lips were so soft and tender, pouring emotion and sweet desperation into his touch…something you wouldn’t think someone having just a short-lived island romance would do.
The kiss deepened as he gathered me up drawing me into his chest. My legs fell to the sides and squeezed, rubbing against his hardness. Shivers shot through my entire body at the contact. “You’re addicted, aren’t you?” he asked, his lips at my ear.
I moaned and he grunted at the contact, his hand moving to wrap around my waist, grinding me into him once again. “I am.” I kissed him again, slow and deep. “Are you?”
As the jet ski rocked in gentle movements, his hands untied my bikini strings, lifting me slightly so my bottoms were fisted in his hand at my hip. He lifted me again, his hands fumbling between us. His eyes found mine, shades of blue revealing a sweet sadness. “I’m obsessed,” he murmured, the warm glow from the waters dancing against his skin as sunlight reflected off each ripple.

“Hey, city girl, what’s your pleasure?”

“I’ll let you in on a little secret, though…city girl, if you want me to take you home…you could just ask me.”

“I told you” — he took a drag from his cigarette and then flicked it away — “I would be anything you needed.”

“You make me lose my mind,” he said.
“You help me keep mine.”

“Your whiskey sour set my soul on fire.”

“I blame you for my inability to walk in a straight line. Your drinks suck,” I said, wiping sand from my lips and cheek.
“Or you could…” he said, gesturing to our current position with me cradled in his lap.

“It doesn’t matter how you look at it, Erin. A heart is always on the line.”

Something Worth Saving – Released Feb 1, 2014

It was one night, one fate and something tragic destroying something beautiful. Heavy sheets of smoke curling and rolling together constricting my visions of this life I had. You see that there? That wrenching pain in your gut knowing not everything as it seems? Look closer. That nervous energy you now have, stumbling over words you can’t say, a voice muffled under a mask, a moaning plea to be saved, slurred words on the tip of your tongue, there’s the something tragic. When I have nothing left to give, nothing left to say, it’s him that brings me back to the moment, in the arms of my firefighter, the warmth of his heart and body, struggling to save his family.

Just Enough – Coming Aug 2014

I want out of this town. I want to leave and never look back. He doesn’t knock when he comes in, he never needs to. He knows, as well as I do, my door is always open, waiting. I crave him. I do. He knows this, I think, I know, and I believe he craves me too. Why else would he come back? It’s his determination and his will that gets me. That determination keeps me waiting for him in a dreary bay. I’ve always heard my friends say they wanted the rich guy to take them out of this small town that seems to hold us all captive. Lincoln wasn’t that guy. At first look, he’s a fisherman, married to the sea and weighted by her waves. Who is he to me? He’s someone who gives just enough. He shows me a different way of thinking. A way to give more than just enough.

Blog Tour: Caught In The Storm by M. Stratton

Kat Snyder has spent years chasing after the man who attacked her and left her for dead. It is her one obsession and she won’t let anyone stand in her way. Now that they are getting closer to finding him she begins to doubt herself and her need for revenge.

Jackson “Jack” Taylor lost the only woman he truly loved. Now that he’s found her again he’s not letting go and will do everything in his power to make her see they can have a life together.

Together they search for the monster who has hurt so many women. The closer they get, the closer they become, until they are both Caught in the Storm.

Jeremy Ellison sat on a dirty bed in an even dirtier motel room with his head in his hands, wondering how he ended up here. He’d had her; he was almost able to take the one thing Anthony currently wanted. After pulling himself from the water, he didn’t know what to do or where to go. This was a first for him. He’d lost everything. Everything. He had no laptop, no pictures, nowhere to go, and most importantly, no money.

Sighing, he reached over for the newspapers he had purchased, somewhere in there he’d find what he was looking for. Some old lady from the society pages who had more money than brains. Some way to make a quick buck so that he’d be able to move on to bigger and better things. It was a scam he had perfected over the years. Money and items that he could quickly sell would be his. It was what had afforded him the lifestyle he loved so much, and giving the old ladies a thrill, well, it was the least he could do.

He wanted to scream when he saw his picture and the story about him, staring back. A smaller photo of Anthony and Evie mocked him. They were coming for him; they were all coming for him. Pounding his fists on the bed, his head shook back and forth, his mouth opened in a silent scream.
She sat in the grimy motel room clutching her wig in her trembling hands, staring at the room across the parking lot where she saw him enter a while ago. She never expected to come across him after all this time. It took everything she had not to knock on the door and send the bastard straight to hell. She knew he deserved more pain and putting a bullet in him would be too quick. Now that she knew where he was, she could plan. She had to have a plan. Everything had to be in order. The ending would have to be perfect, exactly what he deserved.

Her hands shook as she thought of what she’d have to do to him, but she hadn’t come this far to back out now.

Glancing at her watch, she knew she had to hurry, she wanted to get back to her files on Jeremy. Now that she knew exactly where he was she needed to make sure everything was up to date and she had all the information on him. Slowly she put the wig back on and walked out of the room into the sunlight. She casually dropped her purse near his car where she attached a tracking device. Picking up her things, she put them back in her purse, then stood up and walked away, never looking back.

Release Day Blitz: Raven by Ashley Suzanne

If I would have known then what I know now.
If I would have known that having my heart broken at thirteen by my one and only friend, Garrett Rhodes, would never compare to the empty feeling at sixteen when I buried my mother.
If I would have known that changing schools in my senior year would throw all that back in my face.
If someone would have told me that when you drink a fifth a night and get in bar fights at twenty one, I’d end up in jail … again.
Maybe … just maybe … I wouldn’t be in the hell storm I’m living in these days. Letting my past dictate my future, allowing the best of the best male MMA fighters bully me day in and day out and knowing no matter what I do, Garrett will always be the only man that understands me. I didn’t have to live this way. One day changed the course of my life forever.
Through all this mess, the one thing that I’ve found that keeps me centered … martial arts. And I’m damn good. If only someone would give me a chance to prove my worth.
All I can do now is make the best of it and try to not let the fight consume me.

“Hey, cheater. You still got clothes on,” Garrett shouts from the bank.
“It’s not my fault that you’re wearing more than me. Skirt and flip flops come off in much less time than sneakers and jeans.” Dipping my head back to get the hair out of my face, Garrett finally gets his shoes off and starts working on his jeans.
Nothing could have prepared me for the sight I was about to see. Unbuttoning his pants and letting the zipper down, he lets the denim drop to his ankles. His muscular thighs are barely hidden by the tight boxer briefs he’s wearing underneath. Pulling his shirt over his head, Garrett’s abs glisten in the late afternoon sun.
Licking my lips, I have to remind myself that when I last saw Garrett, he was a fifteen-year-old, lanky boy with no muscle tone whatsoever. This man before me … he’s got muscle on top of muscle and it’s downright the sexiest thing I’ve ever seen. I make sure that when Garrett finally makes his way into the water I keep my chest below the surface to hide my ever present hardened nipples. I could always lie and say the water’s cold, but he’d know I’m a damn liar.

The Saint by Tiffany Reisz

**spoiler free review**
Whoa, this book! It flies by at warp speed. I don’t think I’ve ever burned through 488 pages so fast in my life. I really couldn’t put it down, and you won’t want to either. It may be one of the best books that I’ve read this year, and is definitely the best of this series yet!

The first chapter in this book starts out with a WHAAAAT??? Nooo! Say it ain’t so! So commence the chapter burning, page turning to figure out what the heck is going on here. This is how good it is at selling the storyline. I refused to accept what I was being told, but as the story went on, I starting thinking, crap, maybe it’s true? That is how the author reinforces the story with detailed dedication.

I can’t say enough about the development of Nora and Soren’s relationship. I really didn’t have a grasp on what drove them as a couple. I think that I thought it was driven by this attraction and lust, but seeing the playful friendship that they had for many years prior to the big act, was so satisfying. Seeing in more detail, the longing and how Nora and Soren make their way back to each other over the years, is what grabs your heart.

So the story is cruising along and I’m in my happy place, devouring every bit of Nora, and her recounting of her early days with Soren. THEN IT HAPPENED…….

Possibly the grossest thing I’ve read! So warning on this. Tiffany Reisz is hard core and I think she likes shocking us a bit. Shock and awe aside, it is still some incredibly solid story telling. She takes a lot of historical Christianity, and weaves it into the plot, paralleling the history to her characters.

This book is also incredibly funny. Young Elenor is sarcastic and witty, and Soren’s dry humor and wise ways play perfectly against each other. Also, the allusions to future events, that we as readers are privy to, leave you snickering.

At the end of this book there will be discussion about where this series is headed. I have to say I have faith in Tiffany Reisz, and either way it will be good and she will sell me on it.

“It’s a trick of the fiction writer,” she explained. “You figure out what your main character is most afraid of, and then you make her face that fear.”

I think this is what it will all come down to in this series. Layered and complex, this is a great read that will land itself on many Best lists this year.

“There were days that I would have exchanged a year of my life just to touch you one more time.” –Mark Williams
I knock on Mer’s apartment door and shift back and forth on my feet. I haven’t been this nervous since the very first time I picked her up for a date early in our Junior year. I’ve come a long way since then. Suddenly the door is wrenched open and Jax is standing there with a wide smile. “Hey,” he says. “Hi. I’m here to pick up Meredith.” “Mr. Delicious is here for your date, tootsie roll!” Jax yells. “I’m right here, dork,” Meredith says as she slips under his arm out into the hallway. “Ignore him. He has horrible manners.” “Have fun,” Jax continues, leaning on the doorjamb with his arms crossed and watching us walk to the elevator. I brace my hand on the small of her back and feel the electricity travel up my arm and down to my groin. After all this time, the chemistry is still here. “You have her home at a decent time, now. I’ll leave the light on.” “Shut up, Jax,” Mer says with a laugh. “Use condoms!” He calls just as the elevator arrives. “Oh my God! Shut the hell up, Jax!” He laughs as the doors close and I can only smile in delight down at her. Her cheeks are pink with embarrassment. Her hair is pulled up in one of her signature messy buns and she’s in jeans and a blue sweater the same color as her eyes. Jesus, she’s fucking gorgeous. “You look amazing,” I say and rub a large circle over her slender back. “So do you,” she murmurs and looks up and down at my plain black T-shirt and jeans. I threw a plaid button down over the T, but her eyes travel to my arms anyway. She always did have a thing for my arms. “Thanks for coming out with me tonight.” “Thanks for inviting me,” she replies with a grin. “Where are we going?” “You’ll see.”

**spoiler free review**
An extraordinary follow up to Come to Me Quietly, A.L. Jackson captures the essence of real characters in love, committed to each other as they struggle to deal with a past that still haunts them and threatens their future.

AL Jackson has a way of building her prose with a poetic feel to it. Her descriptions are rich, velvety, and sensual the melt your insides. Her novels are descriptive art. Her books are never a wham-bam, hers are tantric with a slow build. When you reach the pinnacle, all the pieces lock into place to create a beautiful mosaic of emotions.

Aly and Jared are perfection. You never lose your connection to these two characters. They invade your heart and never let go. They are so real, with edge and grit, yet the story allows them to occupy an area of hope and faith in what is possible through their commitment. These characters don’t disappoint, providing likeability with realistic insecurities and flaws.

This story is told in alternating points of view, but to me, it really felt like Jared’s story. He had so much internal conflict that needed to be resolved, and it is all handled and concluded perfectly. Aly has a few of her own loose ends to tie up, and Jared supports her unequivocally. All and all, Jared and Aly’s commitment to each other is….sigh.. It makes you believe the good in humanity. This story has all of those characteristics of an uplifting, hopeful love story. Not overly emotional just for the sake of beating up your heart, every feeling and emotion is organic to the characters and their personal struggles and journey.

I’m a bit of a greedy reader and would have liked to see certain scenes played out. Maybe we can beg for some deleted scenes? I can’t get enough of these two, what can I say? I was really surprised at the direction the story took. However as it unfolded, I was like, Ahhh.. Yep, this is the route that it needed to take. Jared wants to give his family everything, including the while picket fence. But what do we know about white picket fences and appearances? They aren’t always all they seem.

This book wraps up their story, however I’m curious and hopeful to see if we get brief glimpses of them in the next book that will be about Aly’s brother, Christopher. Settle in, enjoy, and get the Kleenex ready for some touching dialogue, and introspective thoughts from these characters. This is a love story that battles all and conquers all. Get ready to watch these two fight for their family.

Aleena is no longer the little girl Jared remembers from his past and evokes feelings in him he never wanted to feel again. Terrified of destroying her, he fights to keep her away. But her touch is something he can’t resist—the touch that sealed his fate. Their pasts are intertwined and their futures uncertain. The only truths they know are the secrets they whisper in the night.
