No one is safe.
When I first started getting back into reading years ago I had ran across Christy Reece’s books and quickly became a fan.  Unfortunately I had fallen behind on her books and they had kind of been lost in the crazy mix of books I still have to read but never find the time.  Chance Encounter reminded me of all the reasons why Christy Reece had a helping hand in renewing my reading addiction those years ago.  If you have ever read a Christy Reece book or if she is a new to you author then you will know that her books are filled with action, suspense, drama, steamy sex, and some smoking hot heroes.  Chance Encounter delivered all of those things and more.

I am not going to get into details about the plot or what action occurs because I don’t want to spoil it for anyone.  I will say this though, if you love a good romance that is filled with action and suspense along with the right amount of sexiness the you will love Chance Encounter as much as I did.  I am going to make the time to go back and reread the ones I have already and then go buy the ones I haven’t because I will not make the mistake of allowing another long period of time go by before I catch up with her books. If you haven’t read her books yet take the time and see why she helped me find my love of reading once more so many years ago.

Growing up in a tiny community in Alabama boasting only one stop sign and a gas station gave Christy ample opportunity to create daring adventures in her head. When she wasn’t thinking of her story characters, Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys kept her entertained and out of trouble. Later came the chills of Stephen King and the thrills of John Grisham, but the romance genre always held a strong place in her heart.

A few years ago, she decided to write the stories that had been rattling around in her head. Now she and her characters couldn’t be happier.

Christy lives in Alabama with her husband, five adorable fur-kids and one very shy turtle.

Blog Tour: Wait For Morning By Nicole Edwards

Trace Kogan will go to any length to protect those who need protecting. That is the business he is in; the business his father, Casper Kogan, started with Bryce Trexler more than thirty-five years ago. Trace spends day and night eliminating threats to clients, so when the danger hits too close to home, he won’t let anything come between him and the woman who desperately needs his help.

His fear… the physical reaction he has to Marissa may pose a bigger danger than the ghost that they find themselves up against.

Marissa Trexler has spent the last twelve months of her life in hiding, tucked away in one safe house after another for her own protection. The threat to her is real even if the reason is still unknown. Strangely, whoever is after her seems to find her no matter where she goes, leading her family to believe it’s an inside job.

So when the decision is made that Trace will provide personal protection, she can’t say no, even if being close to him adds another level of danger… and this one is to her heart.

When I found out about a new series from Nicole Edwards was coming out I may or may not have done an embarrassing happy dance.  I can’t help it, I have loved Nicole Edwards’ books in the past and was excited about her going in a little different direction than her fans are all used to.  So the big questions that I know you will want answered are was it worth the risk she took to write something different than she has in the past and did I as a fan of her previous works like it.
Let me answer the first question now.  Was it worth the risk to write something different than what as fans have come to love about Nicole Edwards books?  Yes, yes a million times yes.  Don’t get me wrong I love all of the sexiness and panty wetting sex scenes that we have all come to love and expect from her books, but Wait For Morning has proven that she can go beyond that scope of erotica and write a damn good suspenseful romance read that had me staying up late to read and ignoring my family when I just needed to read more before I could put it down.
Now to answer the second question on your minds.  Did I as a fan of her previous books like it as much as the others?  Again I want to shout yes over and over again.  Was it perfect?  Of course not and let me try to explain a little why it wasn’t.  Like all starts to a new series a lot of ground work must be done to introduce characters, settings and really introduce the readers to the world that is being portrayed.  At times that process can be drawn out a little long and for me that happened with Wait For Morning but it didn’t take away so much that I got bored.  I love seeing a new series be set up but at the same time I just wanted to get to the heart of it all if that makes sense.  I just wanted to know what was going to happen next and for me that is what makes a book great.  Having your readers needing to know right then means that you are so into the book that nothing in the real world around you matters and for me that is what happened while I was reading.
I want to read more of this new series and if Nicole Edwards continues to excel at moving into different genres like she has so far, then us as readers will have a lot of great books to be watching for in the future.  I hope that Nicole Edwards fan will take the risk and end up loving Wait For Morning as much as I have.

Review: Finding Trust (Centre Games Series #1) By Natalie Gayle

Finding Trust – Book 1 Centre Games Series

Brayden and Rihanna

He’s hot, sexy, and leads a double life. Sometimes in the limelight, mostly in the shadows. Brayden James holds fast to a secret that’s more than his to share.

She’s a singularly focused veterinarian out for a rare night of fun with friends, at a New Year’s Eve rock concert. Going home with the lead guitarist was furthest thing from Rihanna Mason’s mind when the night began.

When Rihanna inadvertently becomes the target of a deadly terrorist plot using the Hendra virus as a biological weapon, Brayden is forced to reveal his other life. His job is to keep her safe and together they must stop the terrorists before it’s too late. But what happens when she becomes more to him than just the assignment?

Will the secret he cannot disclose ultimately prove too much for Rihanna’s fragile trust in relationships? Or will he finally break through the double brick walls around her heart, where every other man has failed?

I am always open to finding a new author, new book or even a new series to give a chance.  I also love a lot of different genres (which if you all read my reviews you will already know this) so when I was offered the opportunity to start the Centre Games series I jumped on board and said hell yes I will give it a chance.  Finding Trust is a mix of sci-fi, paranormal, suspense and romance.  Yes that seems like a weird combination but it works.
Now I will admit when I first started reading Finding Trust I wasn’t sure what to think and I didn’t know if I would like this book, let alone have to read an entire series or not.  But, I kept reading and while at times I still wasn’t sure I kept on and I am glad I did because overall I enjoyed this book.  I wasn’t sure about Brayden and Rihanna as a couple and it took me longer than usual to feel comfortable with them and actually like them together.

Overall, I enjoyed Finding Trust, I didn’t love it but I did like it.  I have a feeling this series will be on that has to grow on its readers and some will love it completely and some may not.  I just hope you all give it a chance, I am glad I did because I did end up liking it.

Review: Hell’s Kitchen By Callie Hart and Lili St. Germain

*From International Bestselling authors Callie Hart and Lili St. Germain comes a tale of two families co-existing in a melting pot of violence, murder and drugs in the seedy underbelly of New York City*

Hell’s Kitchen

Theo and Sal Barbieri are brothers, tasked by their Mafioso father Roberto with a very clear purpose: kidnap Kaitlin McLaughlin. The beautiful daughter of Roberto’s Irish enemy. It’s high time Kaitlin was punished for her father’s sins—not to mention, her own.

And Operation: Kidnap Kaitlin is a roaring success… until it isn’t. When Kaitlin escapes into the busy streets of New York City, it’s a race against the clock to find her before Sal and Theo become the hunted.

Zeth Mayfair has traded his life as a hitman for a quieter existence, but it isn’t long before the past catches up with him in the form of Roberto Barbieri. Will he succumb to the lure of power that Roberto is offering? Or will he retaliate by killing every last Barbieri in New York to get them off his back?

Jason Ross is running. Woken in the night by a tip that the Gypsy Brothers are coming for him, he packs a bag and gets his girlfriend the hell out of dodge. Arriving in New York City in the midst of a heatwave is one thing, but being tailed by an entire drug cartel is another.

Worlds collide in Hell’s Kitchen as secrets come to light and sins are punished. Because we might be different in the light of day, but in the darkness, we’re all connected somehow.

Hell’s Kitchen is a serial comprising three volumes: Hell’s Kitchen, Tribeca and Bleecker Street. Volume One releases on March 3rd with a limited-time sale price of 99 cents.

Let me take a minute to bow down to the authors of the dark and twisted reads that leave you wondering if your mouth will ever shut because your mouth has been open forever with the jaw dropping read that Callie Hart and Lili St. Germain has written.  Word of advice if dark isn’t for you then skip this, because these two are the dark masters and have proved it once again with Hell’s Kitchen.
So that I don’t give anything away, not just out of respect for the authors but because you have to read Hell’s Kitchen, you just have to and I don’t want to spoil anything, this is going to be short and sweet and to the point.  Ladies and gentlemen, if you are fans of either of the authors, read the book!  If you are fans of dark reads, read the book!  If you love suspense read the book!  Are you seeing a theme here?  JUST READ THE BOOK AND BE PREPARED TO HAVE YOUR WORLD ROCKED!

I am still thinking about this book days after finishing it, and with the number of books I read for my own personal reading on top of the ones I read for reviews, when a book stays with me like this one has it is a damn good read.  And, this is only book one, yes there will be more and I can’t freaking wait.

Release Day Blitz: Bender By: M. Stratton

BenderBanner
Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000038_00057]Since high school everyone thought Jake Bender would end up behind bars; after all, he comes from a long line of bad boys. He spent years away from the place he called home. When he finally comes back, everyone thinks he’s just a punk kid all grown up who’s now running a dive bar called The Night Club. What they don’t know is he heads up a special task force, which cleans up neighborhoods and makes them safe again. Stormy Ryan has always felt more comfortable with her books than with people. She loves to spend her days within the pages of her books. When her second-hand bookstore is robbed for the third time in as many months, her employees quit leaving her to run the shop on her own. With the pressure of having to deal with her shop and people, not to mention the declining neighborhood, she is at the end of her rope. When closing up her shop late one night, she is held up and the neighborhood bad boy saves her, putting both of them at the forefront of a psychotic’s obsession. Being bad has never looked so good.

I am having problems typing this review and that is because I have mixed feelings when it comes to Bender.  I loved the idea behind the book, the blurb hooked this book whore right away, especially when the heroine loves books you know I just had to sign up.  Add to that a bad boy who saves her, I went in thinking hell yes let me start this baby right now.  Slowly I started wondering why I was not as engaged as I normally would have been while reading, it’s not that the book wasn’t good because it was but it at times dragged on, be boring and would in a way get confusing.  Let me explain further.  Not only do we have Bender and Stormy but also other characters having a strong presence in the book as well and while they all are a part of the storyline, some in more disturbing ways than others, I would lose track of what was going on.
Was Bender a suspense filled read?  Yes it was.  Was it a dark read?  The answer is yes again.  Was it a romance?  Yes.  Did I love it?  Sadly no I did not but I did finish it liking it.  I think I did not mesh well with the author’s writing style.  I just wasn’t into it and sadly at times that is going to happen.  I think the reasons I listed above are the culprit to me not loving it.  Overall for this reviewer it is not one of my favorite reads, but if you are looking for a dark, suspense filled read that will at times leave you wondering what in the hell did I just read because that was disturbing, then give Bender a try.  You may enjoy it more than I did.
BenderTeaser
Prologue
Eighteen year old Jake Bender sat slouched over in a chair in the principal’s office listening to the asshole saying over and over and over how he’d end up in jail or dead. Blah, blah, blah. It wasn’t anything he hadn’t heard a thousand times before. He was thankful this one wasn’t followed up by fists like his old man liked to do.
“Are you listening to me, boy?” The principal slammed his fist on the desk and walked around wagging his finger in Bender’s face. “You mark my words, boy; you’re heading for jail or the cemetery. Either way this world is better off without you. You could disappear and no one would care. We don’t need you.”
He sat there and slowly looked up at the principal raising an eyebrow. He’d been hearing this for years from his old man; that song was stuck on repeat. Bender was counting down the days until he could leave this place behind. He’d go full time at the garage, find a place to live, and try to stay alive. Once he was on his own he’d be the one who came first, no one else, just like he’d been raised, look out for number one.
“Don’t give me that look, boy.” He raised his hand as if to slap him.
Bender sighed and leaned back. He knew there was no way he was actually going to hit him. Besides, if for some reason he did, it wouldn’t hurt as much as what his dad did on a daily basis. “Do it. I dare you.”
They stared at each other before the principal backed down. “You’re not worth it. Get out of here and don’t come back for a week.”
“What, no Saturday detention?”
“Never worked for you before; sure isn’t going to work now. We just have to get through the next two months, unless you want to drop out now. Then you’re society’s problem.”
Bender stood up. “Way to inspire the youth there, sir. You may want to write that little speech down for future reference.”
“Get out, Bender. Just get out.”
*****
Bender slowly walked home kicking a rock hoping the old man was out getting drunk somewhere and wouldn’t be home until later. He wasn’t worried about his mom; she’d been beaten down so much over the years she didn’t care about anything as long as his dad wasn’t beating on her.
When he saw the man sitting on the steps to his house he paused. There was something familiar about him, but Bender couldn’t place him. He knew he’d seen him before, but couldn’t remember.
“We need to have a talk son.”
“You’re not my dad.”
The man leaned back and crossed his ankles looking relaxed, but Jack knew he wasn’t. This man didn’t look like he ever let his guard down. “No, thank God for that. I’m here to help you.”
“Yeah, well I don’t want your fucking help.”
“Listen, you punk ass kid, do you want to end up like your old man? Nah, I can see from the look in your eyes you don’t. Well, I’m offering you a way out. A way you can hold onto that tough kid attitude while helping people.”
“Fuck them. They never helped me.”
“What do you think I’m doing? You sure as hell aren’t the first I’ve gotten out of here, and you won’t be the last, but you’d better listen up, boy, before it’s too late. This is your one shot at redemption. I suggest you take it.” He held out a card.
Bender stood there on shaking knees, thoughts going through his head. He wanted to escape the wrath of his father and the scum of the neighborhood. He knew if he stayed, he’d be dead within a year. Slowly, he reached out and grabbed the card, feeling deep down in his gut his whole life was about to change. Now, if it was for the better was yet to be seen.

Release Day Blitz: Royal Blood By Amity Cross

Mercy Reid is a runner.

She found the perfect place to hide, until it wasn’t.

Xavier “X” Blood always gets what he wants.

He had the perfect arrangement, until it wasn’t.

X is the mysterious tough guy from Royal Blood MC who gets shit done. Cross the Club and you get a visit from X. Only one person walks away at the end of it…and it isn’t you.

Mercy is hiding something. Something big. Looking to get lost, she runs from one hopeless situation right into the clutches of a monster.

When X and Mercy meet, something more electrifying than sparks fly. Something dangerous, passionate and forbidden.

When you deal in death, there’s only one way things can end…

Or is there?

– If you like sparkly unicorns and hearts, Royal Blood IS NOT for you.
– If you like dark twisty anti-heroes and heart stopping roller coasters, Royal Blood IS for you.
– If you like teddy bears and kittens with whiskers, Royal Blood IS NOT for you.
– If you like unapologetic alpha males that drip sex and talk dirty, Royal Blood IS for you.

You have been warned.

Please seriously take the author’s warning above seriously, if a dark twisted type of read isn’t for you, then you may want to skip Royal Blood because trust this reviewer you will not like the book then.
Now that my additional warning is out of the way let me tell you how much I loved this book, it’s dark, twisted and suspenseful  and I freaking loved every single second of it.  X is seriously screwed up, he doesn’t have emotions or feelings.  Nadda, zip, zero, absolutely nothing.  They made sure he was emotionless.  He stayed that way until Mercy crosses his path and doesn’t take any of X’s shit.  He is bossy, controlling, a total alpha, and he is an asshole.  Mercy sets something off in him, he doesn’t have time for any distractions, he has a job to do, one that has made his identity known and it is his out with Royal Blood.
Mercy is on the run and has secrets.  She has to watch her back at all times and her tough act is an act but it is who she has become.  At one time Mercy was in the light, now her life has become surrounded by darkness.  If anyone finds out the truth of her past, her life will be over.  Literally.  She knows that getting involved with X is a huge risk and a mistake but it’s one that she’s willing to take.
I could not stop reading this. If my husband hadn’t been home that day my kids would have starved, okay maybe not that dramatic but I just couldn’t stop.  It is dark, twisted, addicting and keeps you on the edge of your seat and when you get to the end you want to scream.  It has a cliff hanger, but I just wanted more of X without having to wait for the next book to release. I fucking loved this book.  If you love MC books that are dark and suspenseful you absolutely have to read Royal Blood, if you love a sexy alpha male who will make your panties wet, you have to read Royal Blood, and finally if you want to read a really kick ass book, well you guessed it, you have to read Royal Blood!

Excerpt
X

Sliding out of the booth, I sauntered across the pub and ducked behind the counter. Nobody gave me a second glance. They didn’t know who I was, nobody did, but they knew I wasn’t anybody good. Peering through the window on the door, Mercy had her back turned, wiping at her damp T-shirt. I could step into her from behind and show her how hard I was…but that wasn’t the way this game was going to be played.
Pressing the door open with the flat of my palm, she looked up at me with blue eyes that gave away two things. Her hair wasn’t naturally black and by the way her pupils dilated, she was amped up. I was interested in only one of these observations and by the way my cock began to stir, there was no guessing which one was the money shot.
Mercy glared up at me, trying to cover her surprise at my appearance.
“What the fuck do you want?” she spat, dabbing at her tiny T-shirt with a rag. “You’re not allowed back here. Employees only.”
I stepped closer, not put off by her tone at all. I’d had worse.
“I don’t give a shit,” I said.
She eyed me, her gaze raking from head to cock and back up again.
I quirked an eyebrow, my lip curling in amusement.
“If you want something, just fucking say it,” she said with an exasperated sigh. “I don’t even know who the fuck you are.”
“X.”
“X, what?” she said, putting her hands on her hips. Bitch didn’t miss a trick.
“It’s my name.”
“X as in the letter x?” She rolled her eyes.
“Got a problem?” I asked, inching closer.
“Yeah.” She nodded at me. “You’re in a staff only area. You might be all buddy buddy with Weiss, but I don’t know you from shit.”
“The mouth on you,” I breathed, totally turned on. I knew she had bite in her, but fucking Jesus H Christ. The more she bit, the harder I got. My gaze rested on her tits. Yeah, I was a tits man through and through and hers…
“You think I’m going to let you fuck me?” she scoffed, her bluntness doing nothing but turning me on even more.
My gaze snapped back to hers. “Who said I was going to fuck you?”
She pressed her hips forward, her groin rubbing into mine. “Your cock.”
My hand shot up and grasped the hair at the nape of her neck. With a sharp tug, her head fell to the side, leaving her neck exposed. If I was an asshole, I’d just take her now, but I wasn’t…fuck that. I was an asshole. Asshole was too safe a word to describe the kind of man I was.
“No,” I said, running my gaze down her pale neck and over her tits. “No, I’m not going to fuck you, Mercy.” She gave me a look that screamed ‘offended’ and it only made me grin wider. “Not here. When I fuck you, I’m not going to share your screams with anyone.”
Her entire body shivered and I knew I had her. Next time, she would come to me.
Letting her go, I let her hair run between my fingers and it took her a beat too long to step back and separate our bodies.
Giving her one last appreciative look, I turned on my heel and exited the ‘employee only’ room. I could wait. My cock strained against my jeans in protest, but this was one desire I was playing out and savoring.
I strode across the bar and pushed out the door, rearranging myself.
I could wait.

ARC Review: Torture To Her Soul (Monster In His Eyes #2) by J.M. Darhower

If you have read Monster In His Eyes (which you need to read before reading Torture To Her Soul to fully understand the story) you know that Naz has a monster inside of him, one that has owned him for years, one that craved vengeance, needed retribution, and screamed for blood. The blood of those who took from him, and that blood he collects but at what price?

In the previous book we had Karissa’s POV, now we get to see Naz’s POV. We get to understand Naz and he is one complicated man. He is torn between the vengeance that he craves and the love of Karissa, who he knows hates him for his actions.

Naz’s knows that he should never have gotten involved with Karissa like he had, she was supposed to be part of his plan for retribution, part of the blood that he needed to shed, but he fell in love with her. He knows that she hates him, he deserves her hate but he can’t let her go. His very presence causes Karissa pain.

Is Naz a bad man, yes. Is he a good man, yes. Can you be a bad man and still be a good man? Yes you can and Naz proves it. While his actions and past may define who he is, he is also protective of Karissa and will do anything it takes to keep her from harm. His love for her is what makes him a good man at the same time it makes him a bad man as well. I know that may not make sense but, if you read both books in this series, it will. I would rather have a Naz at my back, knowing that while he should kill me he won’t because he loves me, than someone who may not ever physically hurt me but doesn’t love me either. Messed up thinking on my part? Yep I admit it, it is, but that still doesn’t change how I feel.

This book at times is slow, but that slow style is a journey that us readers need to take to get inside of Naz’s head and while we may not fully understand everything that Naz is, getting that insight into his soul makes a lot of his actions more forgivable.

I couldn’t wait for this book to be released, I had read Monster In His Eyes for the first time only a couple months ago and was anxious to see what would happen next and I was not disappointed. I think fans of the first book will love seeing Naz’s POV as much as I did.

Cover Reveal: Destroyed by Pepper Winters

She’s a woman with a dirty secret.

I’m complicated. Not broken or ruined or running from a past I can’t face. Just complicated. For good reason.

I thought my life couldn’t get any more tangled in deceit and confusion. But I hadn’t met him. I hadn’t been sucked into his lies or taught to run from everything that he is. Instead, I let him ensnare me, seduce me, trap me with secrets—Hazel Hunter

He’s a man with a killer secret.

I’ve never pretended to be good or deserving. Despite the shadows I live in, I’m ultimately a slave to my secrets and that gives me a free pass to chase who I want, be who I want, act how I want.

I didn’t have time to lust after a woman I had no right to lust after. I told myself to shut up and stay hidden. But how could I deny her? How could I deny my one chance at redemption? But then she tried to run. I’d found a cure to my existence and damned if I would let her go—Roan Fox

And secrets silently destroy them.

Prologue:
Ididn’t believe her when she said she was complicated.
She didn’t believe me when I said I had secrets.
I didn’t understand the truth, even when she let me glimpse behind her mask.
She didn’t understand that I couldn’t live with the consequences.
I thought she was a saint.
She thought I was a sinner.
Too bad we didn’t try to find the truth.
We both paid the price.
We destroyed each other.

Teaser:

No sign of him. This was a complete stranger. Someone who would take my life while not even being aware of it.
I couldn’t speak. I couldn’t appeal or beg.
So, I did the only thing available to me.
Kicking off from the wall, I launched myself forward until my lips crashed against his. Fighting his deviodness with my humanity. Forcing some sort of connection into his sleepwalking soul.
He froze but didn’t throttle me harder. Pressing my mouth on his, I used every dirty trick I knew. I licked him. I sucked on his bottom lip. I cajoled with every inch of my mouth.
His hands loosened around my neck until they dropped from me entirely. Gasping for air, I slithered to the floor in shock.
Lucky number three. This scarred man was the third man who ever dared hurt me against my will and he would pay.
Not by police or a judge, but by me. I took care of myself. No one else.
Standing on shaky feet, I shoved him hard and tackled him to the bed. We bounced on the mattress, yet he didn’t fight me back. His eyes glazed over, so grey and lifeless they looked almost blind.
I punched him between his legs.
Life exploded into his vacant eyes. The pain woke him from whatever slumber he’d been in and instead of the monster who attacked me, a bomb of confusion and horror erupted in his gaze.
“Oh, my fucking God. I didn’t. Not again. Not again.”
Shoving me off him, he sat upright and clutched his skull in his hands. Rocking on the side of the bed, he muttered, “It happened again.”
This man hurt my heart. Not because he’d shown just how unstable he was, but because he looked on the edge of breaking. Holding onto his sanity with the slipperiest of grips, destined to fall down and down until he lost it completely.
