Review: First Strike by Pamela Clare

I was super excited to start this story, only because I’m a HUGE Pamela Clare fan and I adore her I-Team series- She’s not only a talented writer but the woman sure as hell knows how to write some drool-worthy alpha heroes. I’ve been on a huge romantic suspense kick lately and just had a feeling that the next installment to this series would definitely satisfy my current needs. However, while I did enjoy this short prequel I did have a few small issues that has me a little iffy about going into the full novel.
This story starts out in Dubui where unmarried sex is illegal. The heroine and hero meet unexpectedly and enjoy a short weekend breaking the law by getting it on- What’s not to like about that? The thing I love so much about Pamela’s writing is the fact that even though the main focus is set on Laura and Javier’s evolving relationship, she still never lets you forget the danger that surrounds them constantly. They know that acting on their sexual urges could bring severe punishment to them both, yet they threw caution to the wind and gave in anyway…

The novella mainly focuses on their growing attraction and sexual encounters which I didn’t mind in the least… I did however have an issue with the heroine. Personally, I’m more into sweet and innocent heroines without a take-charge attitude- Hence my problem with Laura. She was a pretty sexually assertive character which is something I don’t tend to care for personally. This is one of the main reasons I’m a bit hesitant to go into Striking Distance- I just don’t think I’m going to be able to stomach handling a woman with balls as big as her man’s, if you catch my drift.

I am going to take a second here and gush about the hero, Javier though…

Come to mama’… There’s just something about a tall, dark and handsome man that makes me weak in the knees. Oh, and did I mention he speaks Spanish?

“‘I want to feel you. Drop the bra, bella.’
Spanish for ‘beautiful.'”

…Be still my fucking heart. The author even managed to bring out his protective instincts a bit, which only made me fall for him all the more harder. There was just one teensy-weensy big issue that I had, although it doesn’t have to do with Javier or Laura’s character per se… But… The whole “insta-lust” factor did show its ugly face in this story. I know, I know… This is only a prequel to the full length novel so introductions tend to be short and to the point- I get it and I understand. That still didn’t change my mind about how I felt about it… There’s just something about the whole “insta-love” factor that makes a story feel extremely unrealistic- It also takes away from the emotional depth and character development that’s needed in every book out there.

With all that being said though, I still enjoyed this short story and am looking forward to Striking Distance… I do have my hesitance about it, but to be fair it’s all due to personal pet peeves of mine. I have no doubt in my mind though that despite the few issues I had with this short introduction, Pamela Clare is going to add another fabulous installment to the I-Team series.

PS: For the record, this can be read as a stand-alone. It’s been years since I’ve read any of the other books in this series and I was still able to understand this one with no issues what-so-ever.

Jerk of My Dreams #24

Jerk. Asshole. Douchenozzle. Admit it- you hate to love the jerks. That alpha male character who is so arrogant and rude but sexy as hell. That foul mouthed douche bag of a man who rocks your traitorous heart. We’ve all read them and we’ve all liked them to some extent. In real life you wouldn’t touch the man with a ten foot pole. But in the fictional world? Nothing can stand in the way! Everyone would be lying to themselves if they didn’t admit that the meaner the man, the further we run… Towards them! *sigh*

Welcome to the wonderfully offensive, ever mind blowing, fucked up biker world created by none other than Madeline Sheehan.

This is how I get when Madeline releases one of her books…

I’m serious.

Firstly, Unattainable is not for the faint of heart. Well, none of the books in the series really are, but this one most of all, I think. It has a scene that left me cringing, squeezing my ass in pain and holding my breath. My eyes were buggin’.

Madeline sure loves to plow down those imaginary lines that aren’t ever supposed to be crossed!

Now that I got that out of the way, Unattainable will surely be another winner among fans!

It was packed with:

– One juicy drama situation after another. (Be still my heart)

– A feisty little redhead that never knows when to shut her mouth. (I can’t even talk because I never know when to either)

– One foul mouthed, take no shit asshole guy that was so delectable beyond words that you can’t help but want him. (I have no comment here other than PERFECTO!)

– And a bunch of other stuff I can’t even begin to comprehend. (I totally can, but you just need to read the book to see)

– An unpredictable, make me sweat, storyline. (Don’t even try and figure it out. Just read)

– Sex, sex, and more hot sex. (You do realize this is Cage’s book, right?)

Roughly shake all that together, pour it into a shot glass and what do you have?

Well, that is, once the book actually picked up. To be honest, the first 30% of this book was quite boring for me. *hears gasps* Yes, boring. I felt like I was reading the biographies of all the original characters and then some new ones. I get the need for a little recap of the past stories and such, maybe building for the next few books, but this was too much.

It got to the point where I was turned off and didn’t want to read anymore. I was really feeling let down and a bit upset about it truthfully. I kept thinking to myself how utterly amazing her first books are, the plot, the characters, and how I loved them so, so hard. And then it hit me…

No way is Madeline going to do me dirty like this. Buck up old chap and keep reading!

And so I did.

Once the ball finally got rolling, IT ROCKED MY WORLD.

And Again.

Seriously? Where does she come up with this stuff?

Cage and Tegen are one heck of a couple that, I swear, live to push each others buttons as much as possible. How I loved watching it happen too! And Honestly? I wouldn’t have it any other way. Nothing like a little excitement in the relationship, right? They’re perfect together. I wish there were more book couples like them, it’s my absolute favorite kind of couple to read and I can never find it.

I’m not one to post pictures of characters, but seriously, this is Cage to a T.

Madeline’s writing not only kept me literally glued to my kindle, but it’s also improved so much since the last book. I noticed a big difference in her writing style this time and I must say, I feel like a proud mother hen in a strange way. Not that it really makes sense, I’m pretty sure she’s older than me, but I read Undeniable when it first came out and before a lot of people did, and WOW. Just wow.

So while Unattainable wasn’t my favorite in the series (that goes to Unbeautiful…my god, that book), I really can’t complain. Even with my minor little issue, I still enjoyed the hell out of it and cannot wait for the next book to come out! What a doozie that’s going to be…

In the end, I LOVED IT.

On a side note: I want to kick Deuce’s ass. He’s getting to be a mean grump in his old age.

Favorite Line:

“Lean into me.” *sigh*

My Javier….

Scooting Scars is a book that both Javier and Camden fans are going to love! Some teams may even cross the tracks to the other side. But for me? I’m a through and through Javier fan. There is no swaying me. I know Javier is a ruthless son of a bitch bastard who would probably cut his own mothers throat if it helped him in the end. Believe me- I’ve heard it all. But…

Javier. Owns. Me. Plain and simple.

I know… I’m sick, but screw you because I LOVED it and LOVED Javier! I got me some good old hot as sin latin lovin’ in it too! I can’t even begin to talk about Ellie and Javier’s chemistry. It’s crazy intense! THANK YOU LORD KARINA FOR THAT.

Shooting Scars continues exactly where Sins & Needles left off. And thank heaven for that! I’m not a huge fan of the going back and forth crap, I want the story to actually progress goddammit, not drag me by my hair over rocks and piss me off for it to only move like a week or so. Luckily, this one moved. Though not as fast as I would’ve preferred but I completely understand why it moved at the rate it did. So I really can’t complain.

I knew I was going to see a side of Cam I’d never seen before. I knew there was a good possibility I could fall for him. I knew I was going to watch Cam fight and struggle for Ellie. I was prepared for it all, but what I wasn’t prepared for was the little twists and secrets that came out! I honestly don’t think many will even see what’s lying underneath their nose if they don’t pay attention carefully. But I did and I was like WHOAAAA!!! I cannot wait to see the final installment of this series. I can only imagine what will take place. Actually, I can’t even imagine. Every time I do I’m just blown away by what happens, so I’ll just have to wait.

I enjoyed this book much more than I thought I would truthfully. I wouldn’t say it was a favorite in the series, but it definitely exceeded my expectations by a lot. A LOT. I know…you’re probably like, what the hell is wrong with you? Well, like I said before, I’m Team Javier (obsessive much?) and since I knew this was from Cam’s point of view, I was hesitant to read it. I really didn’t care to read his point of view quite honestly, but I was pleasantly surprised by it.

The only time I felt that Cam goes balls to the wall crazy was at the very end. I felt what he felt: the rage, the drive, the emotion and I was like, daaayyyuummmmm! But sadly it wasn’t enough to win me. He just doesn’t have the passion I need. Now if he could bring it in Bold Tricks… who knows? 😉

To Camden-

Once again, Karina Halle has lured me into a gritty world of loving lies and backstabbing romance. She writes the most alluring characters and one hell of a story line I’ve ever read. Her voice is lyrical and raw- and I can’t get enough of it.

Review: Winter Fire by Jess Dee

OMG! This book was HOT HOT HOT!!!

Two hot guys and they both want Rachel. How lucky could she be? WOW!

Be right back…I need to run to the freezer for a second!…..

Ok….I’m back….wait….one more run……

Ok…I should be good…at least until I start thinking about this book!…..

Garreth was awesome. Charming, sexy, and oh my…what a friend. He sees Rachel, thinks she hot and decides to meet her. After he meets her, he realizes she’s the girl his housemate is in love with. So, he throws himself on the sword and sleeps with her…all to get Jackson to realize he can’t live without Rachel.

Jackson and Rachel have been in love for 12 years but can’t be together. Jackson won’t date his twin sister’s friends. They love each other. When they do finally get together (with Garreth of course), it’s HOT HOT HOT!

I found myself laughing at the flirting, it was utterly charming. I found myself swooning at the HOT sex. and I found myself crying when Jackson and Rachel were denying their love for each other.

This is a great book and I highly recommend it!

Review: Hidden Fire by Jess Dee

Jess Dee writes some of the best friends to lovers stories I’ve read! Her stories have so much emotion packed into them it’s unbelievable.Unbelievable because the ones I’ve read have been short stories. It takes some mad skills to put so much emotion into such a short story and still keep the story hot!

Hidden Fire actually starts in the Winter Fire book. You really need to read that book before you read this one. You’ll be a bit lost if you don’t. It will also create a stronger emotional attachment to the characters if you read that one first!
Garreth is an awesome guy. He did an underhanded thing in Winter Fire, but he did it for the right reason. Now he’s dealing with the aftermath of that act.
Jenna is afraid to let others in, and to some degree I agree with her. I think she should have gotten therapy long before now, but she didn’t and now she’s dealing with the repercussions! Garreth is just the man to help her. If only, she’ll stop running long enough to let him.
Enter Rachel, her best friend and Jackson, her twin brother. They kidnap Garreth and Jenna to force them to talk to each other. And boy does Garreth talk. He dirty talks his way into Jenna’s walls and makes her so hot and wet, she’ll do anything to get him to scratch that itch!
While I really liked this story and I love Garreth, Jenna tended to get on my nerves. Granted I’ve never gone through anything like she has, but she still got on my nerves. She’s pretty selfish and it comes through in this story. Luckily she has Garreth to help her lose some of the selfishness.
I’m looking forward to more Jess Dee stories. She has quite a few I’m planning on checking out!

Review: Naughty Bits by Selena Kitt

Be right back…

Let me just go ahead and start this review with a little word of warning: If incest isn’t your thing and/or it disgusts you to read about it, then stay as FAR away from this book as humanly possible. With that being said… Damn, but this book was naughty amazing hot hot hot! I honestly don’t really know what I was expecting going into this story- However, I did know that Selena Kitt wasn’t going to disappoint and I couldn’t have been more right about that.

I typically don’t do the whole older heroine/younger hero thing, but it worked for me in this book. David is the virginal younger brother who tends to get his kicks from looking at dirty magazines… One called Naughty Bits, in particular. He fantasizes about a girl that’s displayed on several of the pages and time and time again he finds himself drawn to her. Deep down in the back of his subconscious, he knew that the girl he’s been fantasizing about looked extremely similar to his older sister, Dawn. Little did he know, that his fantasy was about to become a reality…

David’s older sister Dawn was portrayed as a bit… Well… Slutty, if I must say so myself. She’s the instigator in David’s transformation from virgin to full-blown master of orgasms… Her orgasms, in particular. At first, David was a bit stand-offish about having sex with Dawn… After-all, it is his sister. He tries his best to keep himself satisfied with doing everything with her, short of sex; As if crossing that line will truly make what they’re doing so very wrong. Eventually though, he gives into temptation and they immediately began their taboo love affair.

The thing I loved most about this book is the fact that the author really did manage to put in a decent enough amount of emotional build up, depth and character development to leave me feeling satisfied. Now don’t get me wrong- This book was pretty much nothing but sex scene after sex scene. However, Selena Kitt really did manage to weave an actual story-line in between it all and that in itself is pretty damn impressive.

Now granted, as much as I absolutely loved this book there were a few things I could have done without. I don’t know what it was about Dawn getting turned on with needing to call David her “little brother” during sex, but it was a little much for me at times. I can only assume that it just heightened everything for her knowing how morally wrong what she was doing really was. Knowing this book was about an incestuous relationship didn’t bother me in the least… Yet, I still never got used to the whole “little brother” dirty talk that always seemed to make its way out of her mouth. I also couldn’t ever get used to some of the British words that were thrown in throughout the book. (For example:“Crikey”, “Knob off”, “Wanking”, “Wanker”, etc.) …In all honesty though, none of this effected how I felt about the book as a whole- I just wasn’t quite used to reading a book that used British slang.

All-in-all, this story was fantastic- The ending was a bit abrupt, yet I still felt like it was all wrapped up together nicely. I would definitely recommend Naughty Bits to anyone who’s in the mood for a forbidden erotica-Selena Kitt is one hell of a talented author and this book shows her work at its finest.

Review: Entwined with You by Sylvia Day

This book… I can’t even… Words won’t even…

I’m in awe right now. Absolute awe. …This is BY FAR the best book in this series in the world, in my opinion. I’m absolutely blown away by this series in general, but this book… It exceeded my expectations times a million. For any of you out there who’s hesitant about going into this book in fear of it being a major disappointment, let me be clear: Missing out on the opportunity to read this book would be one hell of a dumb ass decision. With that being said, let me just go ahead and elaborate on my gushing…

For starters, I think you all know that the most important aspect of this series is Gideon Cross. *moment of silence*

The man is the epitome of amazing. The personification of flawless. The embodiment of fucking perfect. I have never in my life come across a hero quite like him… He emanates power and strength in every sense of the word and after reading this book I’ve officially found myself in one hell of a book funk when it comes to finding another hero who can live up to his wonderfulness. Let us all take a moment and stare…

All humor aside, there’s more to Gideon than just a perfect EVERYTHING. His love for Eva knows absolutely no bounds and that to me is what makes him who he is. He’s completely dominant and possessive, yet at the same time he’s also so very broken. Eva is the only one on the face of this earth who can truly get through to him in every way and make him whole again. They’ve been through hell and back throughout this entire series- We’ve all seen it first hand… But the one thing that’s helped their bond to remain unbreakable is their steady love for one another. Throughout this series, Gideon has been determined to protect Eva at all cost because she’s always come first and this book only reiterates that simple fact to the extreme.

Eva has always been very strong and independent, despite her own personal demons and battles she’s had to fight. She’s so deeply scarred by her past and has been hurt tremendously by the many things that has happened in her relationship with Gideon. Despite all of the misunderstandings though, they’ve both worked so hard to keep things between them open and honest and in the process they’ve both learned to balance each other out. I do have to say that Eva is one lucky bitch… To have a lover like Gideon and a best friend like Cary… My God, the only explanation I have for her good fortune with fine men is the woman must have a magic vagina… And yes, I’m jealous.

I’m not going to talk about any specifics when it comes to the details of what happened in this story… I refuse to give absolutely anything away- The only thing I want to elaborate on is how truly powerful the love between Gideon and Eva is and how well it was shown in this novel. Throughout this series we’ve all seen first-hand all of the ups and downs they’ve both had to go through to get to where they are now. The thing I loved so much about this book though, is how well Sylvia Day has shown readers how much both of these characters have grown, not only in there relationship between one another but in themselves as well.

Eva and Gideon were literally willing to sacrifice anything for one another, and that to me is the ultimate love. I’ve yet to come across a hero and heroine who have a love as deep and meaningful as these two. It literally only takes one look and these two want each other so badly. They want to listen to one another… Talk to one another… Hear each other laugh and hold one another when they cry. They just want to sit next to each other and breathe the same air; Share the same life. …Obsession? Maybe. But damn, if there’s not one person out there who wouldn’t kill for that kind of love to be reciprocated back to them.

I’m afraid if I continue on in this review that it’s going to be nothing but a continuous gush-fest and I refuse to keep on the way I have been in fear that I’d never stop. Sylvia Day honest to God blew me away with this series, and this latest installment left me utterly speechless. So much was standing in the way of Gideon and Eva being together in the public eye and we’ve seen how much the trauma of both of their pasts can truly take it’s toll on their relationship… But in the end, these two have only become stronger and this book really shows us that on such a greater level. I’m happy to say that Sylvia Day has officially announced that this isn’t the last that we’ll be hearing about Eva and Gideon- There story isn’t quite yet ready to come to a close, and to say that I’m looking forward to the next chapter of both of their lives would be the understatement of the year.

★PS: …For all of you out there wondering if this story ends on a cliff-hanger, it doesn’t. There were quite a few loose ends that weren’t wrapped up, but over-all it’s definitely enough of an ending to leave you some-what satisfied until the next book is released. …And for all of you out there who have yet to read the first two books in this series, (Bared to You and Reflected in You) don’t read this book until you have… It’s not meant to be read as a stand-alone.

Review: Killing Sarai by J.A. Redmerski

…Before I go on any further in my review, I need to just go ahead and put this out there: This is BY FAR the best book that I think I’ve ever read.

I literally devoured this book in a matter of hours. That was no easy task, let me just go ahead and be clear on that. I literally had to hide my phone half-way under my keyboard at work like my life depended on it in order to avoid the evil that is management. Fortunately I didn’t get caught, but this book would have been damn worth it if I had.

I honest to God can’t go into any detail when it comes to this story- I won’t even give you a tiny hint towards any sort of insight about it… I just can’t do it. There were so many unbelievable twists and turns throughout this book that not only kept me on the edge of my seat, but threw me off guard more times than I could count. Just when I thought the story was going one way… BOOM! …You’re surprised with another set of unpredictable turn of events.
I will say this: If you have a weak stomach, walk away from the book. I repeat… Walk away from the book. The author goes into such amazing detail throughout this story like no one else I’ve ever read- That detail includes killing and gore, therefore if that kind of thing turns you off then this isn’t the story for you. With that being said…

The hero Victor, is flawless officially my favorite book boyfriend.

The man is the ultimate BAD. ASS. He’s a cold-blooded paid assassin and the best of the best at his job. I think what makes his character all the more deadlier is the fact that not only is he a pro with a gun but he’s extremely quiet, reserved and intimidating. He’s always gone through life emotionless and unattached to anyone or anything; Too disciplined and unemotional for involvement. The man may be scary as hell but he’s also filthy rich and to-die-for swoon-worthy. Mix that in with his lack of emotions, protectiveness and don’t-fuck-with-me attitude, and there you have it ladies and gentleman… Perfection.

Victor is most definitely my favorite kind of hero to read about- He’s completely closed off and solely focused on completing the assignment he has ahead of him. He always has a plan and is always one step ahead of it at all times. A woman is the furthest thing from Victor’s mind and the last thing he needs- He doesn’t have room for love in his heart and what he does for a living certainly forbids it. Ultimately, he’s a killer. Confident… Precise… And determined. Nothing or no one ever gets in his way… That is, until he meets the heroine Sarai. He knows he can’t risk her being anywhere near him, but yet he can’t bare to leave her side either. His protectiveness makes an appearance whenever she’s involved which is not only conflicting for him but makes things much more complicated…

I really and truly loved Sarai’s character. She’s extremely strong for a girl who’s been thrown into a life that would break the spirit of any woman. From the first moment she was introduced, I instantly connected with her. She was full of so much strength, despite how broken she felt on the inside. …But more than that, she was the only one who could manage to break through Victor’s defenses. It was so refreshing to see a female lead as strong as Sarai was, without being too over-bearing. She had learned to adjust to danger by blocking out her fears and emotions- A convincing facade for the sake of survival.

The thing I loved most about this book was how slowly the relationship between these two unfolds. The story alternated point of views between these two flawlessly and you were able to get a small hint into what both of them were feeling at the time, leaving you with just the right amount of suspense without giving too much away. Honest to God, J.A. Redmerski is a God when it comes to writing. I don’t think there’s enough compliments in the world that could adequately express how amazingly talented this woman is. After reading this book, I am utterly speechless… Something that doesn’t happen often for me. Needless to say, I need the second book now… As in yesterday. If you’re a fan of dark stories that will have you on the edge of your seat throughout every turn of the page then by God, this is the book for you.

★PS: For all of you out there avoiding this book because of the “cliff-hanger” ending… Don’t. It isn’t as bad as you’re thinking. I’m okay… For now. …And if I’m okay then you’ll be okay. You’re still left with a lot of unanswered questions and it doesn’t end with a happily-ever-after per se… But damn it, the potential is there so just brave yourself to enjoy the ride of your life and suffer like the rest of us until the second book comes out- This isn’t a book you want to miss out on… Trust me on this.

ARC Review: Unbeautifully by Madeline Sheehan

Unbeautifully (Undeniable, #2)

THAT is how it’s DONE.

“Writing this book beat my fucking ass, raped me, threw me down a flight of stairs, dragged me out into traffic, let me get smacked around by a couple of semis, then left me naked and bleeding in a sewer full of garbage.” -Madeline Sheehan

Yup! That about sums up how I feel! NO. FUCKING. JOKE.

Madeline Sheehan did me dirty.

And I loved it. Like love LOVED it.

Unbeautifully is one of the most angst ridden books I think have ever read. And damn, how it felt so good. So amazingly damn good. There must be something wrong with me if I like the way pain feels. This book pretty much sucked the life out of me. If I could give Unbeautifully book more than 5 stars I would- and I hardly ever say that. In fact, I want to lick Madeline’s face when I get to meet her.

Don’t judge. You will too. Mark my words.

I LOVED Undeniable, it’s clearly evident in my review, but this one tops Undeniable for me. Unbeautifully more RAW, more GRITTY, and more EMOTIONAL than ever before. How is that even possible, you ask? Trust me, it is! There were times when I thought, Oh hell no! He did not just go there! but he did and I can’t even complain. My only complaint is that I want more…like now!

I don’t think I have ever read a book so fast in my entire life! There was no way that I was going to be able to put Unbeautifully down once I started. NO ONE will be able to.

I’ll be back in a few to review this. I need to pour my usual drink which is a 7&7- but I’m leaving out the ginger ale tonight. Honestly? I feel like a crack head right now who needs its next fix!

I don’t even know where to begin! My mind is running a thousand miles a minute, my stomach is doing back tucks and I have the shakes. There were times that I’d bust out laughing, and times I was sick to my stomach. Not a dull moment while reading this book.

Unbeautifully picks up right where Undeniable left off. AND. IT DOES. NOT STOP. It keeps going and going and going until the very end. Just when you think you’ve seen it all, BAM! the story takes a turn and you’re like, W.T.F..

Madeline’s style of writing is one I have never seen before. It’s provocative and abrasive yet sexy. She doesn’t hold back, and for me, it doesn’t get much better than that. She says it like it is which is why I think I love her books- and I don’t love books often.

What was so great about this book is that all the characters from the past are present. I love when that happens, and not just making a cameo either. They have full on parts. Deuce fans can relax! He has a huge part in this book. We get to see more of Deuce and Eva’s story, which was extremely emotional to read. Talk about heart aching and gut wrenching! I wanted to cry for them.

Oh Cage… *sigh* How I cannot wait for your story and that little spitfire who I just know you’re going to be paired with.

Kami and Cox?

They are a hot mess of epic proportions. The woman is always screaming at him. I was ready for her to punch him at some point! But watching Cox be so in love with her was something else. Crazy? Probably. I found myself busting out laughing quite a few times with them when they came onto the pages. Hysterical! They might be a hot mes together, but they work and that’s what matters. Loved them! They counteract the pain and sorrow with humor which creates a nice balance throughout this story.

But don’t worry! Even with so much going on with other characters, this is very much Danny’s story…as well as Ripper’s and ZZ’s…? I can’t say much, only that this needs to be read!

Ripper is a deeply scared man inside and out. He’s imperfect and doesn’t believe he deserves Danny, yet there is no denying what he feels for her. I love flawed heroes. It means they come with baggage and add drama to the story, which is what I love. He’s fierce and loyal to those around him but when Danny comes into the picture he falls for her fast. They have this forbidden kind of romance going on which adds adrenaline to the story. Danny and Ripper are H.O.T. together, but when Ripper makes a hasty decision (which I wanted to kill him for), Danny is left to pick up the pieces. And oh god, did it hurt. It hurt so freaking bad. I hated some of the choices she made… They hurt! Uggghh!

Madeline really knows how to get under the skin and pinch and pull on every nerve in the body. And truthfully, isn’t that what we all look for in our reads? That feeling, that emotion that takes hold and runs wild, unable to to know where it’s leading us? It’s raw and uncut, and honestly it doesn’t get much better than that. There wasn’t a minute that went by that I thought this book needed more or that the story was lacking in any way. It is filled to the top with a very moving plot that made me ache and rejoice at the same time. I was in near shock and then near crying thinking, Good God, Why! Why did that happen? Yet, in some strange Madeline way, it all works out perfectly. It’s not so far fetched because in a biker world, this is how it goes down. Like I said, real and raw and just right.

Jerk of My Dreams #17

Jerk. *sigh*

That’s what this weekly meme is about- those jerky delicious men! Each Friday this meme will go up, and you can share your jerk anyway you want: review, interview, lines and quotes, giveaway of a book. However you want! All you have to do is sign up HERE and follow the linky. Any time you comment on someones post, leave your link so that person can comment back.

My mind has just been freaking blown, no joke. I don’t think I’ve read a book this epic in forever ever. I can’t even… I don’t even know… Where do I…

I literally don’t even know where to begin when writing this review because my thoughts are just all over the place. I guess I can start with the most important factor about this book first: The hero, Bastian.

First things first: The man was the epitome of asshole, and that’s not an exaggeration. Now for all of you out there who prefers a man with a vagina, then Bastian isn’t going to be for you- With that being said, anyone who knows me knows that mean heroes are the love of my life… I live, breathe and sleep jerk heroes. I’ve come across some pretty bad-ass and crude characters in my life but Bastian is a man from an entirely different league. Not only was he a complete and total ass-hat, but deep down inside he truly had a heart of gold and his love for the heroine, Raine brought tears to my eyes.

“I’ll always be yours,” I told her. “No matter how much of an ass I am, you know that, don’t you? You know even when I’m being a fucked up asshole, I still love you right?” ~Bastian

Honest to God, there isn’t a hero out there who tops my feelings for Bastian. I loved him that much. He’s addicted to cigarettes and alcohol, and is the furthest thing away from a gentleman that you could find. But when he loves, he loves hard and he loves deep and it’s the kind of love that we all live for in our romance novels. The story is told strictly through his POV, which isn’t something that I’m typically a fan of yet it worked for me in this book. As a matter of fact, I wouldn’t have had it any other way. I think being inside Bastian’s head was absolutely necessary for readers, otherwise he would have ended up coming off as extremely cold. Seeing things from his perspective though, really made your heart emotionally invested in his character. He went through so many changes throughout the story and hit some pretty low moments as well. Being on the outside looking in, I don’t think you’d see him as anything more than a complete asshole… But being able to know him on a personal level from the inside out really showed you what a truly broken man he was. He’s literally one of the most tortured heroes I’ve ever come across. He was utterly broken and had been completely screwed over by life for as long as he could remember. In turn, it caused him to trust no one, when deep down all he really wanted was to love and be loved in return.
As for the heroine, Raine… I truly loved her. She was so damn sweet and was able to see through Bastian’s tough exterior. She stood by his side through some incredibly difficult times and was able to cut through his tough shell in order to see the real man that was underneath- And trust me, it was no easy task. Loving Bastian takes courage and guts and the woman had it in spades. The thing I loved and respected most about her is the fact that from the beginning, she believed that there was something worth loving in him. She continued to take his mood swings over and over again yet was still able to see the good in him throughout it all. She was so innocent, sweet and vulnerable, yet so confident and strong as well… All of which only grew to epic proportions the deeper there relationship grew.

I literally had no idea what to think going into this book. I took a quick glance at the synopsis and knew that it sounded intriguing but what really got my attention was all of the high ratings and reviews- The book was flooding my news-feed and after many recommendations, I ended up diving into the book head first. I’m not going to spoil this story for anyone because quite frankly, going into this story without knowing any detail about it is what made it all only that much more beautiful. All you really need to know is that this book revolves around two people who truly learn the definition of survival in every sense of the word.

Initially, I was worried that it would drag quite a bit since it supposedly revolved around just the hero and heroine. Yet, never once did I find myself bored at all- There was just so much going on in the story that I never had the chance to get distracted by their isolation. There was such deep sadness at times, as well as some serious steamy and dangerous moments that literally left me on the edge of my seat through every turn of the page. The author, Shay Savage has some God-given talent and it shines in her captivating writing- She’s definitely going to be an auto-buy for me from here on out. All-in-all, I honestly can’t recommend this book enough… It was so much more than anything that I ever expected and it would be a mistake to pass it up.

★FYI: This story does NOT end on a cliff-hanger. I’d say it ends more on a “happy for the moment” note- The epilogue does show some issues hidden in the background with promise of more to come, but the ending will still be enough to satisfy you until the next book is released. 🙂
