But if we’re going to survive, wherever you go…take me with you.
I’d never given much thought to falling in love. For someone like me, it seemed an impossibility. Why dwell on something that would never happen? I had no interest in chicks for more than what they could give me in one night. Fuck ‘em and then show ‘em the door. There were always clinger groupies, who claimed to love me. But they loved what I could offer them. Sex.A one-night stand.A story to tell their friends about how they slept with a rocker. With Grant McDermott. I was a name. A symbol.Nothing more.

Liz Dougherty has no idea a single question is about to change her life.
Her first big reporting assignment for her North Carolina college newspaper has her covering a state senator’s impromptu press conference. Brady Maxwell may have everything it takes to be a politician—a winning pedigree, devastating good looks, a body made to wear suits—but his politics rub Liz the wrong way. When Liz’s hard-hitting question catches the upstart senator off-guard, it impresses Hayden Lane, Liz’s editor who feels she’s headed for a promising career as a reporter.
But Liz is also headed into a secret romance with Brady that could destroy both their ambitions. Though he’s a bachelor, potential voters might frown on Brady cozying up to a reporter. And Liz isn’t sure sneaking around is enough for her—especially when things between her and Hayden might be less platonic than she thought.
Sleek, sexy, and smart, Off the Record ventures into a high-stakes campaign and an even higher-stakes affair to answer the question: When politics and love collide, can there ever be a winner?

In this highly anticipated final installment of the bestselling Avoiding series, follow Lexi as she juggles a new career, a new city, and the burgeoning affections of three very different men.
When I first started writing Following Me, I had a Lana Del Rey song, Dark Paradise, stuck in my head! It embodied everything I thought about the book and I listened to it all the time when I was writing. I wanted something visual that made me think of Dark Paradise, and I found this image with lyrics from the song:
I started a secret Pinterest board that day. I didn’t want anyone to know that I was writing the book yet, so I never made it public. Every single time I found a picture that made me think about the book while I was writing, I added it to the pin board. Sometimes, I would go on the board and look through all of the photos before or during the time that I was writing. It would help me with the look and feel of the characters, setting, and emotions in the book.
And I’ve agreed to make this board public for the first time here on My Secret Romance Book Blog:
So feel free to take a look and see what inspired me while writing. Get to know the main characters, Devon, Hadley, Garrett, and Brennan, and see parts of Chicago that are included in the book.
K.A. Linde is giving away one ecopy of FOLLOWING ME at each stop. Please leave a comment for her and your email address so a winner can be chosen. Thanks!!
K.A. Linde once again blew me away with this book! …And why am I not surprised? She’s one hell of a kick-ass author and a favorite of mine to this day- The woman is a God at writing some super angsty reads that features some incredibly drool-worthy heroes and this book is major proof of that.
I’m not going to go into much detail by elaborating on this story- The synopsis doesn’t give much away and I think there’s a good reason behind that. The story revolves around the heroine Devon, who made a spur of the moment decision to leave for the summer- She had her own personal reasons for doing so… She just didn’t know if ultimately it was the right decision or not. Unfortunately, I wasn’t a big fan of Devon- I didn’t dislike her… I just didn’t really like her either. At times she came off as a bit too cold and stand-offish for my taste, but then again she had her reasons behind that cool facade and in time I was able to learn and truly understand the reasoning behind her distance. That didn’t mean I always cared for it… But I got it. Desperation can certainly lead to secrets and she was holding a big one that could ultimately destroy her…
Devon eventually learned to take each and every day one step at a time when it came to her new life in the city- But what she wasn’t expecting was complications with her best friend Hadley… Or confiding in Hadley’s boyfriend about her past… And most certainly not falling in love…
…And speaking of love, that brings me to Brennan. *sigh*
My God, I loved that man. He had this mysterious confidence about him that I just couldn’t get enough of… And apparently, either could Devon. Like her, he seemed to have his own secrets that he kept hidden in the depths of his soul. It was obvious he didn’t open up easily to anyone either which is why it was so easy for him to see through the tough shell that Devon tried so hard to hide from everyone else.
The thing I love so much about Kyla’s writing is her ability to make everything seem so real. From the story-line to the character development, it’s all just so believable and realistic which is one hell of a hard thing to come by in romance novels these days. This story was filled with just the right amount of angst and drama to keep you on the edge of your seat, and while I didn’t quite love this book as much as her Avoiding Series, I still expected nothing short of awesome from her when it came to this story… And suffice it to say that I wasn’t disappointed.
“I knew you were running the first time I saw you…”
Devon didn’t have a game plan when she decided to leave St. Louis on a Chicago-bound train for the summer. Just a reason. One she couldn’t share with anyone.
Not Hadley, her best friend from college, who lets her stay in the guest bedroom; no questions asked. Or Brennan, the bartender at the local restaurant they frequent, who she actively tries to avoid. Or Garrett, Hadley’s boyfriend, who befriends her when she has no one else to turn to.
“I just didn’t know what you were running from….”
Desperate to hide at all costs, Devon plunges into her new life in the city. Everyone around her starts to reveal sides of themselves Devon never expected. And just when she starts to get comfortable, her world flips upside down…
“…but I think all along you were running toward me.”
All with secrets that just keep following them.
Sweat beaded on Devon’s temple, and she wiped it off her forehead and out of her eyes. The party had been going all night, and it was nice to loosen up and get lost in the music and dancing. She hadn’t partied in so long, and she couldn’t resist when Amy had actually invited her out. Either she was getting over her hatred for the new girl, or Devon had just been there long enough that she wasn’t considered the new girl any longer.
People were packed into the club shoulder to shoulder, many even closer than that. The music was ear-splittingly loud. Crazy lights traversed the warehouse-sized room, and they alternated to strobes slowing everything down to slow motion. She hadn’t had much to drink, but she was dizzy with dehydration and the energy in the room. Her tank top was sticking to her back, and she had long since pulled her hair up off of her neck into a ponytail.
God, I need another drink, she thought.
Her eyes moved around the room taking in as much as she could from her vantage point. It really only ended up being the two feet encircling her. Amy had to be somewhere inside the building. How had she lost track of her?
Well, she knew how. There were too many damn people in the place. It was easy to lose track of one person, especially when that person was as short as Amy. Still, she should have done better. She didn’t like being alone in dark places. Whether she was surrounded by people or in a back alleyway at night, she was still alone.
She craned her head to look for her, but was having no luck. It felt like more and more people were being crushed into the space. How was this in line with fire code? Surely the place would be shut down soon.
Walking in the direction of the bar, Devon tried to find Amy in the crowd. Seriously it was getting harder and harder to maneuver through. She was literally having to elbow people out of the way. This wasn’t okay, and it wasn’t fun. They shouldn’t let any more people in. Things could get out of control.
Devon looked up over the heads of people in front of her and sighed. It felt like she was never going to reach the bar, and there was a huge line anyway. She thought maybe the bathroom would be a better alternative…at least there she would have some privacy.
She turned to walk the other direction and slammed right into a meaty guy in front of her, who glared at her as she lost her balance and tumbled to the floor. Someone stepped on her hand as she tried to get up. Devon swore and hissed pulling her hand away from the ground where someone else could do the same thing. She stood as best she could, cradling her aching hand. It wasn’t easy pushing through people with one hand pressed between her breasts to keep from someone else smashing into it. All it did was cause people to unknowingly smash into other parts of her. She hadn’t made it more than a few feet toward the bathroom, and she had already been elbowed in the arm, gotten her foot stepped on, and been drunkenly body slammed knocking the breath out of her. The club was getting dangerous. A space opened in the crowd, and she took advantage, rushing forward through the throng of people. It took her closer to the bathroom but not close enough. Then she felt it. Eyes on the back of her head. She didn’t even know how it was possible. There were hundreds of people in the place. No one could be focusing that intently on her, but she could swear that someone was watching her.

Jerk. Asshole. Douchenozzle. Admit it- you hate to love the jerks. That alpha male character who is so arrogant and rude but sexy as hell. That foul mouthed douche bag of a man who rocks your traitorous heart. We’ve all read them and we’ve all liked them to some extent. In real life you wouldn’t touch the man with a ten foot pole. But in the fictional world? Nothing can stand in the way! Everyone would be lying to themselves if they didn’t admit that the meaner the man, the further we run… Towards them! *sigh*

Let’s pretend this wall is my kindle…
I have never been so irritated (yet in love?) while reading a book!
One minute I wanted to punch my kindle and cut someone, the next I was all like…
Lexi contradicts herself
Ramsey is hiding shit
Jack…is being Jack! ❤
Loads of sexual tension
Bekah is a whore
A new guy
And I still loved it…
Team Jack baby!
Avoiding Commitment is the first book in this series, and a tough act to follow. No joke. I loved it so much that I can honestly say it’s one of my top favorite books. What the author did it me was…is..too hard to explain. All I know is that it’s exactly what I look for in a book.
This book starts out with a bang! It picks up right where the first one left off. I couldn’t put it down and when I did it was all I could think about. This book took over my life for the few days I was reading it and after I finished it too. K.A. Linde definitely has a way with words that grips you right from the start.
Lexi once again finds herself torn between two men. Jack, her first love and who is always ever presently on her mind. No matter what she does she can’t seem to escape her past with him. And to be honest, I don’t want her to forget it. I love the sexual tension and heat between them. I love the memories they shared. I love how all Jack has to do is look at Lexi with those penetrating blue eyes and she succumbs to his every need. I love how it’s a now forbidden romance between them yet they can’t fight the attraction…but they do. I just love them together!
Then there is Ramsey- Someone who unexpectedly works his way into Lexi’s heart. He has the same sexual tension with Lexi as Jack does, but Ramsey is different and works to prove himself to her in this book. I was worried that Lexi wouldn’t notice since she is so consumed with thoughts of Jack. The thoughts never stop until Ramsey comes into the picture and he makes her forget all the deceit and broken promises Jack made to her. But Ramsey will never be able to erase the past though…
The intensity between Lexi and Ramsey is powerful, but Lexi cautious with her emotions when it comes to trusting Ramsey after everything that’s happened. He is very secretive and won’t open to her which drove me bat shit crazy! Lexi is on guard 24/7 and has reason to be- what Ramsey is hiding is more than she ever thought.
Ramsey is no Saint! Wake up ladies! Read between the LINES!
One issue I had with this book was that I found it to be extremely repetitious, to the point where I was skimming. It made me want to cry over all the long winded thoughts Lexi had during conversations. They were drawn out and tedious, sometimes going on for pages. None of this was needed! Just about each chapter was filled with the same consuming thoughts of Jack. It’s one thing to relive memories and events that happened, but it’s another thing entirely to relive each one in nearly every chapter again and again. I already know it all.
What saved this book for me was the last 10% of the story. IT.WAS.AMAZING. I was reading as fast as I possibly could. I could not put it down yet nearly too much to handle! The end of the book leaves us hanging a bit…now I am dying to find out what happens! Oh, but Jack, what I wanted to do to you at the end for not speaking up…
The perfect song for this book- Wide Awake by Katy Perry.
