Blog Tour: Matteo By Rachel Orman

Matteo Cover
Being born into slavery, I never thought my owner, my very mother, would sell me. And she didn’t.

Until Matteo.

I was tormented, struggling to come to terms with my new life then he narrowed it down to two things.

Pleasure. Pain.

The man confused me at every turn with his unexpected and unattainable desires.

If only he’d speak to me.

If only he’d tell me how to avoid upsetting him.

If only I could please him.

**Disclaimer: This is a DARK erotic Italian Mafia story. There are twisted behaviors in this book not everyone will be able to handle. Explicit, violent, and sexual scenes are involved. Not for the wary of heart.**

I know that the author placed a warning at the end of the synopsis, but I feel that it is necessary to put my own.  Please, please if this type of book is not for you, stop reading now.  I am serious!  This book is dark; it is not for anyone who has rape triggers or abuse triggers.  This is not a slightly dark book with a side of hearts and flowers.  THIS IS A DARK BOOK!  Has my point been made yet?  I hope so because I am moving on to my review.
I am a fan of darker books, but this one was even hard for me to read.  I had tears in my eyes on more than one occasion.  But at the same time even though some of these scenes are rape and extremely abusive they would turn erotic and hot.  Am I twisted in my head?  Possibly.  Let me make this a little clearer, Gia aka bella was sold as a sex slave, so while that does not make the situation any more right, it puts you in the frame of mind that she has.  She also enjoys it when Matteo is rough with her.  She was born into this life, she wants to be the perfect slave for Matteo, but he always finds faults in her.
Matteo, oh man I have a love/hate relationship with him.  I think he loved Gia from the moment he laid eyes on her but at the same time he was abusive and mean.  You can see why I think he did love her from the start, there are scenes when you can feel the love but then something happens and you see his nasty side.  There is one scene that made me lose all love I had from him, and I honestly never thought I would even begin to like him again.  Once we get further into the book you kind of get to see why he is the way he is.  I wish we had more of his POV, the prologue and epilogue is in Matteo’s the rest is in Gia’s.

I am still thinking about this book, days later.  I think this is going to be one of those books that stay with me for a very long time.  The subject matter was hard to get through at times and it made me feel so many emotions.  I believe that this is going to be a series, and if it is I want to read more.  Like I said it is dark, but it sucks you into the world.  I can’t say that the ending is the happiest ever after I have read, it for this story I think it fit because if it had turned saccharine sweet it would have ruined it for me.

A shiver ran through me. I was chained up in his basement. I’d never been restrained in such a way before. Madam never resorted to such means since she knew I never would’ve run. I had no desire to live free of enslavement. It was all I knew and all I wanted. However, feeling the cool breeze in the room and the even colder restraints on my skin made me wonder if maybe I had thought wrong all along. “I can see from the look on your face that you’ve never been locked up before, and I see that’s where Madam went wrong with you. No, you didn’t want to escape, but you don’t know how to behave. No, you don’t truly know the extent to which a punishment can go. Don’t worry, that is going to change starting now. This will throw a wrench in my initial plans for you, but I refuse to let you go now. You are mine and will be forever, so get used to the idea.” Matteo leaned against the wall in front of me, sliding his hands into his pockets as if we were carrying on a completely normal conversation. He appeared entirely at ease while I struggled with all the new emotions flooding me. After a moment of staring at me, he pushed off the wall and stood close enough I could feel his body heat. He reached down to pull his erection from his dress slacks. Sliding his hand over it slowly, he dragged the tip over my mouth. “Suck it. Get me off and I’ll leave you alone for the remainder of the night. Fail to do so and I will start your punishment now,” he said as he shoved the hot, hard, musky flesh into my mouth. I wanted to cry out that I thought the lashings from the belt had been my punishment. Instead, I sucked him down my throat and bobbed my head along his length the way he’d shown me he liked it done. The longer I sucked, the more my lips became numb and the more I realized that I really had no idea what being a slave was like. Finally, he groaned and his release filled my mouth and throat before he pulled back. As he tucked himself into his pants again he yanked my hair so I was forced to look him in the eye. “Welcome to the Italian Mafia way of life, bella.”

Mother by day. Writer by night. I spend a majority of my day with my children and reading while my nights are filled with the sound of the keyboard as I work on my next work.

I have written in nearly every LBGT category as well as the traditional erotic romance category.
I love to try new things and learn from every piece of work I write. I’ll write just about anything once to learn from it. I’ve even ventured out of my normal erotica genre into Monster Erotica. Doubt you’ll find me writing anything not erotic as you can barely get me to even read something out of that category, but then again, you never know what I might try next.

Never stop learning. Try everything at least once.

Review: Execution Style By Lani Lynn Vale

Miller Spurlock might seem like a laid back man on the outside, but piss him off, or violate his trust, and he’ll show you the meaning of pain.

He was a Navy SEAL. He could kill a man a hundred different ways and not break a sweat.

He’s also a police officer and member of the SWAT team, which means he has the knowledge and skills to get away with it.

Rage boils in his gut when he witnesses what happens to the beautiful Mercy Shepherd during a SWAT op from hell that even his worst nightmare couldn’t conjure up. And it surprises the hell out of him when she wants him, and him only, to comfort her in the aftermath.

Miller becomes the one shining beacon of light at the bottom of Mercy’s pit of despair.

The one man that could pull her through the rough days ahead and make her whole again.

And during her road back to herself, she realizes that she’s got the one thing she ever wanted in life…a hero to call her own.

I am sitting here trying to find the right words that I want to use in regards to Execution Style.  Normally for this author I end up cutting down my reviews some because I am usually raving about a book of hers.  This time, my issue is that unfortunately this is my least favorite of all of the books of hers I have read and reviewed.  If you have read my reviews in the past I am giving high praise for the story lines that Ms. Vale has written.  So it is really hurting my heart when this time I have to say this one was kind of all over the place and had too many issues for this reviewer to be able to overlook.

I normally hate to give any kind of spoiler away but in this instance I need to let you all know that it starts off with Mercy being raped.  Normally I would put a warning at the beginning but her rape is what takes over the entire book in my opinion and her choices after the matter.  I am a religious person but when reading this one I almost felt at times that religion was being pushed on me.  I didn’t like how Mercy in a way kind of put Miller on the spot about something, it to me made me not like her and she was never able to redeem herself in my eyes.  Miller, I really liked him, he was a really good guy.  Past wall breaking aside, he doesn’t want to pressure Mercy or add to her pain.

With all that being said I will continue to read the rest of this series and Ms. Vale’s books.  I am hoping that this is a onetime thing that I didn’t mesh with the book at all. I hope she goes back to the recipe that worked for so many books in the past; a sexy alpha male, a sassy female, sexy times and just enough drama and action to keep it interesting.

Book Tour: Tyrant By T.M. Frazier

I. Remember. Everything.

Only now I wish I didn’t.

When the fog is sucked away from my mind like smoke through a vacuum, the truth that has been beyond my reach for months finally reveals itself.

But the relief I thought I would feel never comes, and I’m more afraid now than I was the morning I woke up handcuffed in King’s bed.

Because with the truth comes dark secrets I was never meant to know.

I will put the lives of those I love most at risk if I let on that my memory has returned, or if I seek help from the heavily tattooed felon who owns me body and soul.

I don’t know if I’m strong enough to resist the magnetic pull toward King that grows stronger every day.

He’s already saved me in more ways than one. Now it’s my turn to do whatever it takes to save him.

Even if that means marrying someone else…

All right before I start I have a couple of things that I have to say.  First of all I will be swearing in my review, there is absolutely no fucking way I can describe this book without some creative swearing on my part.  You have been warned.  Second if you haven’t read King yet, stop, go buy that bitch and read it before starting Tyrantbecause you HAVE to read it first or you will be lost.  Got that? I hope so because my review begins right fucking now.

Holy shit, I knew from the first time I ever read a book by T.M. Frazier that she was going to have the ability to have me on the edge of my seat, panties dripping, cussing up a mother fucking storm and needing more of whatever it is that she has gotten me addicted to at the time.   I loved King, absolutely fucking loved that dirty talking bastard and even with the cliffhanger we were left with I couldn’t even be mad because I just knew that when we got the second book it would make all the angst, kindle throwing, panty changing, King cussing, Pup loving, tear inducing moments worth it.  When I started Tyrant I just knew the words: fuck, son of a bitch, mother fucker, damn it and asshole would be words that I threw out multiple times, and I totally underestimated the amount of times I thought by the time I was done.  Luckily my mom had my kids so they didn’t hear their mommy’s swearing creativeness during my reading.
Things you think you may have figured out, don’t plan on being right.  When Pup begins to remember her past, some things that she remembers could not only be dangerous to her but to King as well.  More than once I was shocked at what was taking place and more than once I cried, both sad tears and angry tears.  I am not going to give anything away, nor am I going to hint at anything, but there is one scene that is pretty dark, that will make you cry and want to commit murder.    Just know that when I say long live the mother fucking King that you will be saying the same if you love him even a fraction as much as I do.  Pup comes into who she really is and is the perfect balance for King.  Even a certain bow tied crazy friend makes his presence known in only the way Preppy could.  Someone else makes an appearance; someone that fans of Ms. Frazier’s books will know exactly who it is.  Bear will have his own book but know that King and Pup’s story is complete.
T.M. Frazier, oh you mind fucking bitch, I love you and your books.  I can’t wait for not only Bear’s story but for every other book your mind can create.  You are an author that is on my automatic buy list and that will never change.  If you haven’t read any of her books yet, OMG go start getting them because you will not be disappointed I promise you that.
5 Stars!

King snarled. “You seem to have forgotten who the fuck I am, Pup. So I’m going to remind you.” He pressed his hips against mine. “I’m the man who took you against your will and handcuffed you to my fucking bed. I’m the man who wanted you, so I fucking kept you.” He cocked an eyebrow. “Do you really think you have a choice when it comes to being mine?”

King lifted me onto the dresser and pushed himself between my legs, forcing my legs apart. He held my wrists behind my back forcing my shoulders backwards and pushing my chest into his. My dress rode up to the tops of my thighs. King pushed a strand of hair behind my ears and leaned in to me, his lips just a breath away from mine. The room was getting hot. I couldn’t breathe. I needed…I don’t know what I needed. “No more questions.”

I opened my mouth to argue. “Stop fucking talking,” he snapped.

King lifted me off the dresser and carried me and set me down in front of the full-length mirror that hung on the closet door. He stood behind me. A head taller than me and outweighing me by a hundred pounds, our differences had never been more obvious. His dark jeans and dark tank top were a stark contrast to my little white eyelet sundress. My pale skin next to his tanned. My white hair to his black. It was a sight that made my knees weak. Because although the reflection in the mirror made our differences obvious, it also made me see how well the two fit together.

Release Blitz: Safe Distance By Megan Green

Haylee Jordan is no stranger to heartbreak. Growing up, she quickly learned to fend for herself, and after a hellish night in high school, she knows the only way to keep her heart safe is to keep everybody else out.

Ryan Porter considers himself married to the military. After losing his father and brother at a young age and witnessing the subsequent downfall of his mother, Ryan has sworn off any semblance of love.

After Ryan helps Haylee out of a sticky situation, the two find themselves growing closer, but with Ryan’s impending deployment and Haylee’s trust issues, they vow to never let it become something more.

However, Ryan quickly finds himself falling for Haylee, and Haylee is unable to deny that Ryan makes her happier than she’s been in a long time. Will the two of them be able to overcome their pasts and open their hearts? Or will they always be determined to keep everyone at a safe distance?

Obviously I am a sucker when it comes to a military romance book.  My husband was in the military so sometimes I feel a strange connection to the characters and I always want to love these types of books because who doesn’t love a strong military hero who sweeps the heroine off her feet?
Safe Distance was a hard book for me to get into at first.  We all can guess that something happened to Haylee fairly quickly because of not just how she is with Ryan but with everyone in her life.  You feel sympathetic towards her but at the same time at least for me after a while she rubbed me wrong.  The way she would just freeze Ryan out made me like her character less to be honest.  Now don’t take me as being unsympathetic to what happened to make her the way she is, because I did cry for her and her past but eventually I just couldn’t care any more.
Ryan was deploying and just wanted a friend, it turned into more for him but even knowing he may lose her for wanting more he just wanted her friendship the most.  Maybe it is because I am a wife of a previous military member and know exactly the stresses and uncertainty they feel when preparing for a deployment that made me on Ryan’s side more, or maybe it was just because from the start Ryan held a place in my heart that I wanted more for him.  Was he always perfect?  No he wasn’t because at times he could be an asshole but there is a very emotional reason for it, and I wanted to beat the living hell out of Haylee for her adding to his pain at one point.

There are things that happen that will make you cry ugly tears, and trust me you will cry, but there are also moments that will make you laugh out loud.  Just know that Safe Distance will make you feel all sorts of emotions.  I don’t know if the author is going to make a series or not out of this because Ryan and Haylee’s ending is a HEA, but I would like to see other books with some of the secondary characters, one in particular who deserves a HEA of their own.

Book Tour: King By T.M. Frazier

Homeless, hungry and desperate enough to steal, Doe has no memories of who she is or where she comes from.

A notorious career criminal just released from prison, King is someone you don’t want to cross unless you’re prepared to pay him back in blood, sweat, pu$y or a combination of all three.

King’s future hangs in the balance. Doe’s is written in her past. When they come crashing together, they will have to learn that sometimes in order to hold on, you have to first let go.

Warning: This book contains graphic violence, consensual and nonconsensual sex, drug use, abuse, and other taboo subjects and adult subject matter. Although originally slated to be a standalone, KING is now a two part series.

I had forgotten how T.M. Frazier can write something that is painful and yet at the same time it makes you fall in love with the bad guy, or in this case the King.  I am going to straight up tell you that this book is not a happy go lucky oh lookie unicorns and rainbows type of happily ever after, it is so far from that it’s not even funny.  It has drug use, sex, abuse, lies, violence and death, so if you don’t like or can’t handle those things in your books then I suggest you skip King.  However, if you are like me who loves a book with a darkness to it and has no issues about those things then I don’t think you will like it, I think you will love it.
King is an asshole, a bad boy, hell he could be the poster child for being the epitome of an asshole.  Look up the definition of asshole and his picture should be right there with it.  But, he is so much more, and when we can chip away at the walls surrounding King, you see that he is so much more than what people see.  He has a reason for being how he is, and he isn’t going to apologize for that and he shouldn’t.
Doe has no memory of who she is, she’s homeless and is barely surviving.  She ends up at King’s coming home party with the hope of finding a bed and food and at this point she really doesn’t care what she has to do to achieve that.  When something happens and King collects her as payment she doesn’t know to be scared, pissed, or relieved.  She has a mouth on her that can get her in trouble in a heartbeat,  and she has no problems telling King what she thinks.  Slowly a relationship between them form and can see how these two have broken down their walls, that is until something happens that made me scream all sorts of profanities for a good five minutes straight.  I’m not saying one instance or a couple made that happen, this is something you will have to find out on your own.  And that ending, I need to get Tyrant right this second just so I can see what happens next, because yes there is a cliffhanger but luckily we don’t have long to wait for the rest of King and Doe’s story.
If you are a fan of T.M. Frazier’s previous books, I know I am, then you will want to read Kingright away because it will keep you on the edge of your seat wanting more.
Excerpt #1
“Hey there,” a deep voice rumbled against my ear.
When I turned around, I was eye level with a wall of leather with white patches sewn into it. One read VICE PRESIDENT and the other, BEACH BASTARDS. The man wearing the vest had long blonde hair that draped over to one side of his head, revealing the shaved area beneath. He had a beard, not stubble, a full-on beard that was a few inches long and very well groomed. He stood well over six feet, his frame lean yet very cut and muscular. I couldn’t tell what color his eyes were because his lids hung heavy and were slightly reddened. His entire neck was covered with colorful tattoos and when he went to light a cigarette I noticed that the backs of both of his hands and were covered in ink as well.
“Hey,” I answered back, trying to assert my newly found false confidence.
He was beyond attractive. He was gorgeous. If I had to end up in someone’s bed, I imagined that being in his wouldn’t be half-bad. He sniffled, drawing attention to the light dusting of white powder trapped in his nostrils.
“They call me Bear. You belong to anyone?” he asked seductively, leaning in toward me.
“Maybe…you?” I winced at my choice of words. Of all the fucking things I could have said, THAT was what came to mind? Stupid fucking mouth. Nikki was right. I spoke first and thought second.
Bear chuckled. “I’d love that, beautiful, but I got something else in mind.”
“Oh, yeah? What would that be?” I asked, trying to keep my tone light although my mind and heart were racing.
“This party? It’s for my buddy. And he was down here for a total of thirty minutes before he hightailed it upstairs to drown himself in a bottle of Jack. He’s like a cat in a tree, can’t seem to talk him down. It’s understandable, seeing as he’s been away a while, but I figure you can help me out.”
He hooked his finger into the front of my skirt and slowly dragged me toward him until my nipples were flush up against his chest. He pressed his fingers into the skin right above my public bone and I resisted the urge to jump back by biting down on my bottom lip.
“The BBB’s have never really been his thing.” He paused when he saw the confused look on my face at his abbreviation. “Beach Bastard Bitches.” He explained. “But you? You’re new. You’re different. You’ve got this cute little innocent thing going on, but I know you’re not or you wouldn’t be at this kind of party if that was your deal. I’m thinking he’ll like you.” Bear brushed his lips against the side of my neck. “So maybe you go up there. Make him happy for me. Make little him happy by wrapping those gorgeous lips around his cock for a while. Then when you’re done, bring him back down here to civilization. And maybe later, if you’re a good girl and do what you’re told, we can go back to the clubhouse and have some real fun.” He grazed his teeth along my earlobe. “Think you can you do that for me?”
“Yeah, yeah I can do that,” I said. My skin prickling from his touch. And I could do it.
I think.
“What’s your name anyway?” Bear’s hand slowly traveled up the back of my leg, pushing up my skirt, it came to rest on my ass cheek, which was then exposed to anyone who might have been looking in our direction.
“Doe. My name is Doe,” I breathed.
“Fitting.” He said with a chuckle. “Well, my innocent looking little Doe.” Bear leaned in close and surprised me by planting a soft kiss on the corner of my mouth. His lips were soft, and he smelled like laundry detergent mixed with liquor and cigarettes. I was just beginning to think that the kiss meant that he’d changed his mind and didn’t want me to send me away to his friend, but no such luck. He pulled away abruptly and turned me around by my shoulders so that I was facing the stairs. He swatted me on my ass, propelling me forward. “Up the stairs you go, sweetheart. Last room at the end of the hallway. Be good to my boy, and me and you will get to play later.” He sealed his words with a wink and as I made my way up the stairs I turned back and flashed him a fake smile. I hoped the guy at the end of the hallway was like Bear, because then maybe it wouldn’t be so bad.
Then a thought hit me that had me fighting back the tears that sprung from my eyes with a sudden force that almost took me to my knees.
I’d officially sold myself, and the price was far more than any dollar amount.

Blog Tour: Burn By Allie Juliette Mousseau

Liam Knight, a sexy panty-melting, hard-bodied streetfighter and renowned tattoo artist, is rising up the ranks of the UFC Middleweight Division, but he’s about to get knocked out by his past.

Quinn Kelley is a semester away from becoming a college graduate when her mother’s death sends her spiraling, forcing her to go back to her hometown and a past she can’t outrun.

Nearly a decade ago, Liam and Quinn fell in love while surviving on the city streets together, but they were torn apart by one irreversible night. Now each has moved forward without the other, but like a tattoo on the heart, absolute love creates a lasting burn.

Quinn has kept a tight rein on her emotions, but with the passing of her mother, the foundation she’s built begins to crack. Will seeing Liam again crumble her fortress to the ground, uncovering the flame that still burns? Or will it extinguish the fire forever?

Liam’s tough exterior and resentful demeanor hides more than a wounded heart. He’s tormented by guilt over what happened to Quinn—and the secret he kept, even from her. But revealing his secrets would require unearthing the all-consuming monster he keeps caged in the darkest part of his soul, the one that threatens to devour him.

When they’re given a second chance, will they let go of their fear and pride and let the flame between them become one?

Or will the heat burn them both?
There is something about the way this author gets you emotionally involved with her characters from the start that makes you just want to take them into your arms and take away all the pain and abuse they have ever felt.  I thought I had loved the previous book, Dare, but Burn has blown it away.  Please make sure that you have read Dare before reading Burn, not only will you have a better understanding of the connection the characters share, but how they became brothers of ink and steel.  I am going to warn you, this book deals with abuse and rape, it also deals with healing, love and the family you make not the one you are born into.
Liam and Quinn share a relationship that is special, they are each other’s other half.  They protect each other, heal each other, and their story was one that should have never been dealt even more pain and suffering.  I cried more than one time at the circumstances they were in, the hell both of them lived through, and the heartbreak literally shatter something inside of me.  It is hard to describe the connection they share, all I can say is that while it may have been built on a painful past, it is something beautiful.
Allie Juliette Mousseau has written another book that is more than a survivor of abuse and rape, a fighter or a tattoo artist, but she has written a book that proves that family does not have to be only through dna, but it can be anyone who would ever have your back, help you heal from hell and show you what heaven can be like when you have people around who will fight to protect you and love you no matter what your past may have been.  I really hope that the next book is released soon because I want to see how she is going to top Burn, which in my opinion is going to be damn hard to do.
One more hour before Josh shows up.
Maybe he’ll get distracted with Sophie and Charlie—his beautiful new family. Then he can call and apologize for missing it, and I can say, Better luck next time.
Damn I hope that happens.
I shade with snow-white opaque, platinum and charcoal and finish off the edges.
I’m actually thankful to Quinn for walking in on me this morning—I could’ve fucked up my hands bad and would’ve had to cancel this session—and doing this is the best therapy I could give myself.
“I think you’re done, man. Why don’t you go take a look?” I tell him.
He slides off the chair and goes up close to the full mirrored wall. “Holy Fuck! It’s incredible!”
“Happy you like it.” I smile and begin cleaning my area.
“Man, it’s a fucking masterpiece.”
“Thanks.”
“Aren’t you afraid if you continue fighting in the MMA, you could hurt your hand so bad you wouldn’t be able to tat anymore?” he asks.
Wow! That statement hits too close to home.
“I don’t mean nothing by it—you’re a hell of a fighter—could become a world titleholder,” he continues. “But you’ve got an amazing talent right here.”
“Thanks.” It’s just another subject and another question I don’t have an answer for.
After he leaves and my station is all cleaned up, I walk out into the waiting room.
“He was a happy customer,” Adrienne chirps.
Adrienne has been working for me since I opened the place. She and her longtime girlfriend live in the apartment above the shop. They’re great people.
“Josh just called. He’s on his way,” she says.
“Great,” I mutter and then look around at what I’ve built: black walls with red trim and black and red checkered flooring with a Persian area rug welcoming clients to sit on the black leather sofas. My artwork hangs on the walls … they’re good, but these pieces aren’t parts of my soul. Those are colors I’ve only ever let one person see. After her, I pulled the dark shades down over those windows.
“Want to talk about it?” Ade shakes me from my daze.
“No thanks. I definitely do not want to talk about it.”
“Are you going to talk to her about it?”
When I look over at her, she has her arms folded across her chest defiantly. Her spaghetti strapped dress shows off her colorful, flowered arm sleeves.
“You’re going to get on my case too?” I accuse.
“Well, you know there are no secrets here.” When she tilts her head to challenge me, the light reflects off her silver chin post. “I think fate is giving you a lucky draw from the deck, and you need to play your cards right. You’ve been pining after her for as long as I’ve known you.”
“Ade—” I begin.
“I’m not finished speaking. This is do or die, Jack—where you find out if she still has a thing for you or not. Maybe then you can get on or move on.”
“Jesus Christ, I hate all of this free advice!” I sweep my fingers through my hair.
“Free advice just means you have a family that cares about you,” she quips.
At that moment, the buzzer rings, announcing someone has opened the door behind me.
Shit.
“Welcome to The House of Ink and Steel,” Josh announces.
“Hi there!” Adrienne coos with the biggest smile. “You must be Quinn. I’m so excited to meet you.”
“Thanks.” She sounds unsure and distrustful.
“This is Adrienne, she’s been working here for forever,” Josh says.
“Oh yeah! Since Liam opened the place.”
“It’s impressive, Liam.”
When Quinn says my name, I feel as if I could melt.
“Would you like the tour?” Josh asks her when I don’t answer fast enough.
“I’d love it,” Quinn says. “You know, I’ve watched you on Ink Master.”
She’s still talking to me.
“Really? You watch that show?” I finally turn to face her.
“Well, only when you’ve been a guest judge. Guess I’m partial to your work as an artist.” She bites her lip and her gaze drops to the floor.
It’s her shy look. Her I-want-to-hide look.
“Come on, I’ll show you the alcoves.” Josh takes her arm in his. “Talon and Ryder do quite a lot more work around here than he does.”
As he leads her through the place Adrienne comes close and whispers in my ear, “It’s going to be alright, Liam. The universe has a way of working things through when it’s the right time.”
“At least one of us believes that.”
“Don’t be so cynical,” she scolds. “You just got handed a second chance.”
Before I can shoot her a dirty look, Josh and Quinn come back through the lobby. “Let’s get some lunch,” Josh says. “I’m famished.”
I give Adrienne a kiss on her cheek. Even though she’s just frustrated the living hell out of me, I know she cares.
We step out into the parking lot.
“I like the family SUV look you’ve got going on here,” I razz Josh, who used to drive a sleek Gillette Vertigo around. He still has it, but now he also owns a souped-up (with all the safety features) Chevy Tahoe. It has a pink flowered car seat in the back, which I’m sitting next to, along with the toys I had to push over to make room for my ass. A purple sippy cup sits in the drink holder next to Josh.
“Wouldn’t have it any other way,” he admits with a shit-eating grin.
“I’d love to meet your family.” Quinn smiles over at him from the passenger seat.
“I can make that happen,” he tells her.
Soon, though, Josh drives the scenic route around Lake Calhoun.
“Look!” He indicates the colorful snow kites gliding over the frozen lake. Before anyone protests, he pulls into the recreation area’s parking lot.
“It’s been a long time since I’ve seen those,” Quinn says. “It looks like a kaleidoscope.”
“Good thing we’re all dressed warmly. Let’s get a closer look.” Josh turns off the engine. “I could use the fresh air too.”
This is turning into more than lunch. Before I lose my cool, I try to get back into the state of mind I had when I was tatting the guy’s arm.
“Sounds good,” Quinn says, and that solidifies it.
We all walk out to the lake’s edge. There’s so much going on here, even in the middle of February, and it reminds me why I love this city. Vendors are serving hot cocoa and warm, freshly baked pretzels; kids are running around in full snow gear, and of course, there are the snow kites. A snow kite looks a lot like a windsurfer, only it’s built to stand and sail on ice. The colors remind me of a hot air balloon festival, when hundreds take to the skies.
“There must be close to fifty of them,” I say.
“Have you ever tried it?” Quinn asks, and I realize she’s talking directly to me.
“No. I’d fall flat on my ass.” I smile.
“Yeah, and break it, then I’d be the one carrying you home.” Josh laughs.
“Asshole.” I shove him lightly. “You know, Connor’s into it. Has his own kite and everything. He’s good at it.”
Josh asks Quinn, “So, where are you living these days?”
“Georgia. I’ve been there the past few years.”
“Do you like it?” he prods.
“It’s hot and humid in the summertime, but the winters aren’t so bad.” She shrugs. “I sort of like the storms that blow through.”
She didn’t really answer his question.
“It’s really cool you two became such close friends.” She stares off dreamily at the kites.
“Yeah, I put up with him,” Josh quips and shoves my shoulder. “You two entertain each other for a second, I need to use the loo.”
I’m going to kill the fucker. I have no idea what to say! And obviously neither does she, as we both just stand there, painfully uncomfortable.
“Adrienne seems sweet,” Quinn finally says.
“Yeah, she’s cool.”
“How long have the two of you known each other?”
“Since I opened shop six years ago.” I watch a novice kiter fall on his ass. I know how you feel, buddy, I think.
“Six years is a long time,” she says.
“I guess.” I just shrug my shoulders. I’m now plotting the ways I’m going to kill Josh. “You never did finish telling Josh if you liked living in Georgia.”
“The people are really nice. I love the southern hospitality and big smiles. The people make you feel really welcome.” She continues, “I’ve made some great friends.”
“But?” I say, while I crane my neck towards the bathrooms.
“But …?”
“It’s an easy question, do you like living in Georgia?” It comes out more rough-edged than I intend it to.
“Yes, I do,” she snaps back at me.
Perfect, I’ve made her angry.
Trying to save this conversation, which is already a train wreck, I try, “I’d miss the winter too much, I think, to live down south.”
“I miss the winter, the smell in the air and the prickly feel of the cold on your face,” she says, then slowly states. “I’ve been thinking for a while now about … maybe … moving back up into this area.”
It’s a big city, but not big enough. “Would your boyfriend go for that?” FUCK! Way to be subtle. And I don’t even want her to answer that! “You know, Josh is taking a long fucking time. I’m going to walk by the bathroom and see what’s taking him so long.”
I walk away fast, hoping she’ll forget that I asked her anything. Now I’m getting pissed off because I’m acting like a fucking teenager!
“Wait, I’ll go with you,” she says, catching up.
Without paying her much mind, I throw open the door of the men’s bathroom and walk inside, calling Josh’s name. When I get no answer, I come back out.
“Did you see him?” I ask.
“No.” She looks at me like I’m nuts. “Maybe he had to go to the car to get something.”
We walk together out into the parking lot, until we’re standing in the empty space Josh’s SUV had been parked in.
“Okay … that’s weird. You know, I’ll just call him.” She fumbles through her coat pockets. “He may have gotten a call from … Sophie … my phone isn’t here. Oh, shit! I just remembered, Josh asked if he could borrow my cell phone when his battery died. He must not have given it back to me.”
“I’ve got mine.” I feel my jacket’s inner lining and find only a piece of paper.
Sorry, Liam. Josh made me do itAdrienne
I close my eyes as the reality of what Josh just pulled off becomes completely clear.
“That asshole!” I look around the lot, hoping it isn’t what I think.
“What is it?”
“He drove us out here, left us on purpose, and stranded us further by confiscating our fucking phones!” I’m fuming.
How the fuck could he do that to me? What the fuck would make him think this was a good idea?
I hear a soft giggle beside me. I peer over to see Quinn trying to stifle her laughter behind her mitten-covered hand.
“It isn’t funny!” I state. “It’s a five mile hike back to my place.”
That doesn’t stop her. Her response grows from a giggle to an all-out laughing fit.
“He didn’t even fucking feed us!” I growl.
But her eyes still sparkle when she laughs, and it sounds so good and beautiful I can’t help but get sucked into it.
“You think it’s funny?” I reluctantly smile at her.
She nods with tears in her eyes.
I have to hand it to him, this is definitely one way to force us together.

Review: Fighting To Forgive By JB Salsbury

What do you do when everything you avoid, turns out to be exactly what you need?

Easy and predictable, just the way he likes it, Blake Daniels flies through life the way he burns through women: on his terms, no regrets.

With his fighting career in full swing, he’s on the threshold of title contention. But when his training is compromised by injury, the stakes grow impossibly higher. The rage that fuels his punches also chips away at his focus, and he risks losing everything he cares about.

He won’t let that happen. Not again.

Layla’s through with men. After a marriage that never should’ve happened, she hopes to reclaim the pieces of the woman she lost years ago.

Emotional abuse has left her insecure and terrified. A master at faking what she’s not feeling, she masks her self-doubt in false confidence.

She’ll never let another man hurt her. Not again.

Chased by shadows of the past, Blake and Layla know what they don’t want, but their hearts have a different plan. As a web of lies and betrayal threatens to destroy them, they’re forced to make a choice.

Is love enough to heal even the deepest wounds?

Or will they be left Fighting to Forgive?

When we first met Blake in book one, Fighting For Flight, he is this manwhore who jokes around and doesn’t take anything seriously.  He is stupid funny if that makes sense?  His jokes at times are groan worthy but you can’t help but laugh at him.  What you don’t know about Blake is that he holds a secret about something that you would never expect from this bad boy fighter.  When he meets Layla for the first time, he is of course in total Blake fashion an ass that doesn’t stop him from trying to get with her.  What he doesn’t know is that Layla hasn’t had a good past and is trying to make a new life for her and her daughter.  I started singing Another One Bites The Dust by Queen because I could see that Blake was starting to fall for his stubborn little mouse.  I will admit I loved every second of his downfall, well almost.
When he gets injured training for his upcoming fight, he doesn’t let that stop him.  He gets treatment and continues on, but ever so slowly that rage that tends to simmer below the surface and ends up erupting like a pissed off volcano hell bent on destruction.  Why he blows up is a damn good reason, but his actions are something he is not only scared of but ashamed of as well.  Trust me Blake has a reason why, and while I figured out what was happening prior to being told, it will make you question your absolute trust in certain individuals that are supposed to protect you.
Layla’s past will make you feel so strongly for her, and the more you find out the more you want to hurt her husband for what he did.  What I wouldn’t give to kick him in the balls with a pair of steel toes boots, multiple times. I saw a lot of myself in Layla, I won’t get into specific things but her love of music, the way she dressed and her sassiness reminded me of well me.  I love her daughter’s name as well.  Guns and Roses fan will appreciate it greatly.

Layla and Blake healed each other while at the same time battling demons and building a relationship that was so strong that even the worst things couldn’t tear them apart. I will admit that I had tears in my eyes a couple of times because you can’t help but feel for what they both go through.  Fighting To Forgive is so much more than a book about a MMA fighter, it is a book of protection, healing, betrayal, heartache and finally a book of how love can heal so many different types of wounds.

Review: Gods & Monsters By Jani Kay

I never look in a mirror. I don’t need to. If I want to see what I look like, I just look at my twin. Daemon and I are identical in every way — from the outside. That’s where it ends.

Born five minutes after me, my brother hates that he came second. It irks him that I breathed life into my lungs first. Ever since he’s been trying to steal everything I have. Everything I love.
To own it first.

Until the day I, Cobra Malone, become president of the Scorpio Stinger MC. I throw him out like the garbage he is. Rotten filth won’t be able to taunt me any longer.
How wrong I am.

Evil knows no barriers. It stops at nothing. It won’t rest until it gets what it wants. And he wants what is mine. MINE. He wants my woman. My air. My reason for living.
I’ll die before I let him take Mia from me.

Will this be a battle to the end? Till the last man is left standing?
When two wills this strong clash, there will be chaos . . . and blood.
Who will win? The God or The Monster?

From the very first book in this series I was really wanting Mia and Cobra’s story because you could just tell that their relationship was strong even when it may have seemed weak.  I know that may not make sense but if you have read the rest of the series I think you will be able to understand what I meant by that without giving anything away.  When I found out about Gods & Monsters I jumped at the opportunity to sign up for the tour because I had a feeling this was going to be a damn good book, and it was and so much more.
I love how we get to see Mia and Cobra’s relationship from the beginning, how they from the very first touch were connected even when it was so wrong because of Mia’s age. We also get to see Cobra and Daemon’s relationship, how they acted towards each other and you can see why Cobra and Ryder hated him as much as they did. Mia and Cobra were the other half of each’s souls and you can see that as their relationship progresses and how they want to protect each other from pain.
I knew deep down that this story was going to be emotional and at times possible harder to read than the rest because of Daemon’s involvement but what I honestly didn’t expect was to be wanting more of Daemon’s POV.  If Jani Kay were to write a book on Daemon alone I would read it because you know to understand the monster inside of him you need to understand his thoughts, why he was the way he was.
If you haven’t had the opportunity to read this series yet, please make time because you won’t be disappointed I guarantee you that.  Jani Kay has drawn me into the Scorpio Stingers MC world and I want more of these bikers right now.

Review: Forgiving Lies By Molly McAdams

A matter of secrets…
Undercover cop Logan “Kash” Ryan can’t afford a distraction like his new neighbor Rachel Masters, even if she’s the most beautiful woman he’s ever seen. To catch a serial killer, he needs to stay focused, yet all he can think about is the feisty, long-legged coed whose guarded nature intrigues him

A matter of lies…
Deceived and hurt before, Rachel would rather be a single, crazy cat lady than trust another guy, especially a gorgeous, tattooed bad boy with a Harley, like Kash. But when his liquid-steel eyes meet hers, it takes all of Rachel’s will-power to stop herself from exploring his hot body with her own.

A matter of love…
As much as they try to keep it platonic, the friction between them sparks an irresistible heat that soon consumes them. Can Kash keep Rachel’s heart and her life safe even as he risks his own? Will she be able to forgive his lies … or will she run when she discovers the dangerous truth?

I am going to be straight up truthful and say prior to reading Forgiving Lies I had never read anything by Molly McAdams.  I have had her books on my kindle for a while now but always kind of kept pushing them off to read something else.  When I signed up to review Changing Everything( my review will post tomorrow so make sure you check back for it)  I knew I had to take the time and do what I always try to do when reading a book that is a part of a series, that being reading the previous books.  So I picked up my kindle and scrolled until I found Forgiving Lies and began to read. And I read and read and read until I finished it and I asked myself why did I wait so long to read this.  Now before I continue, I have heard other people say that this series is a little different than Ms. McAdams’ other books (which I will be reading as soon as I can) so if for some reason this one doesn’t work for you, check out her other books and give it another shot.  Okay now on to my review.
I loved the banter and back and forth bickering between Kash and Rachel.  I think I laughed out loud so many times that people around me thought maybe I was a little crazy.  Kash knew that he needed to keep his focus on the job at hand but Rachel not just knocks him on his ass, nope she runs his ass down like a mac truck and he doesn’t see it coming until bam!  Now he did wrong I won’t disagree with that but I understand why and for me it is a forgiving lie.
Rachel had been going through hell and she didn’t need Kash to add to it.  I felt so bad for her, I just wanted to say why, why, why would you put up with this shit.  I think that was my only issue with Rachel, she allowed herself to be used as a doormat at times.  I loved how her true personality would come to the forefront when she would bicker with Kash.
Now I am going to digress very quickly and mention my feelings on the best friend.  Bitch needed a baseball bat to the back of the head, a punch to the throat and a kick to the vagina for ever, ever accusing Rachel of not telling the truth and treating her the way she did.  If I had been Rachel bitch would have no longer been my best friend and I sure as hell wouldn’t have forgiven her.  Seriously can you feel my rage for this twat?

Okay now that I let that out of my system I can move on.  I really enjoyed Forgiving Lies from beginning to end even with my little rant in the paragraph above.  It opened my eyes and had me ask myself what lies would I be able to forgive and what ones would be unforgivable.  You may think you know the answer to that but do you really?  And in case you are wondering why I keep calling them forgivable lies, read the book, you will get your explanation.  Molly McAdams, you have opened my eyes, not just to your writing but to the understanding that sometimes not all lies are bad.

Sale Blitz: A Life Less Broken By: Margaret McHeyzer

On a day like any other, Allyn Sommers went off to work, not knowing that her life was about to be irrevocably and horrifically altered.

Three years later, Allyn is still a prisoner in her own home held captive by harrowing fear. Broken and damaged, Allyn seeks help from someone that fate brought her.

Dr. Dominic Shriver is a psychiatrist who’s drawn to difficult cases. He must push past his own personal battles to help Allyn fight her monsters and nightmares.

Is Dr. Shriver the answer to her healing?

Can Allyn overcome the broken?

Contains distressing content. Only suitable for 18+. Standalone.

A Life Less Brokenis an extremely hard book emotionally to read.  This is not a book to read if you have any type of rape trigger, please if this is a topic that you know that you don’t like to read about then skip this one.  Just please take what I just wrote to heart.
God, what do I even say about this book?  From the start you know how horribly that Allyn suffered at the hands of her attackers.  I had tears in my eyes when I read what happened to her and then when you see how she hasn’t been able to cope just makes it all so much harder.  I had to step away from this book multiple times because of what I was reading.
When she meets Dominic, her new doctor you start to see that maybe, just maybe she can begin to live again. Slowly ever so slowly Allyn begins to battle the fears that have caused her life to just be at a standstill since her attack.  Feelings between the two begin to move past doctor/patient and that is when I started to not like the book as much.  It’s not because of their relationship but because it went from doctor treating patient to bam something else without a second thought to what would be at risk for him.
Then all of a sudden thing just go from bad to worse for Allyn, I won’t say what it is because I don’t want to give anything away but for me, that would have been my oh hell no breaking point.  It almost became over the top with the drama surrounding the truth.

I liked A Life Less Broken but I can’t say that I loved it.  I love dark reads, rape in a book is not an issue for me, but this one just didn’t sit right with me for some reason.  I have had 50/50 luck with this author so maybe it is a case of we just don’t mesh well together or maybe it was the book itself but if you take anything from this review, please keep the warning I posted at the beginning of my review in mind if you do give it a chance.  This is one read that will stay with me for a while and not in a good way but one that will make me wish that nothing like this ever happens to any woman, ever.

There’s something about the written word that’s pure magic.

Possibly it’s the fact that there are 26 letters in the English alphabet, and they can create something so beautiful or so empowering that they’re able to change our lives.

How important is it that we break suit and stretch our minds?

I like to think of myself as ‘unique’. My stories aren’t for everyone, and sometimes I may push what you believe to be ‘normal’.

Normal is subjective.
