Release Blitz & Giveaway: Beyond What Is Given (Flight & Glory #3) by Rebecca Yarros

Lt. Grayson Masters is focused on graduating the Apache helicopter course, and the last thing he needs is his gorgeous new roommate Samantha Fitzgerald distracting him. While her smart mouth and free spirit are irresistibly irritating, he can’t deny their off-the-charts chemistry, no matter how hard he tries.
Having just been expelled from college, Sam has no business digging for Grayson’s secrets while she’s hiding her own, but that doesn’t stop her from trying to tear down his walls. Each barrier she busts through drops one of her own, though, and she’s not prepared for the truth: another woman laid claim to Grayson’s heart long ago.
Falling in love is something neither Grayson nor Sam can afford, and when that line is crossed and secrets are exposed, they’ll learn that sometimes it’s the answered prayers that will put you through hell.

“Samantha?” His eyes softened, revealing the give in him, and it cracked my own defenses.
“Have you ever made a mistake, Grayson? And I don’t mean the kind that costs you an apology. I mean one that destroys you? Where you lie awake at night, unable to sleep, because you’re terrified of what’s going to happen the next day, and the one after that? Where you’d give anything, and I do mean anything to go back and make a different a choice? Where you’re sick all the time at the thought of what you’ve done? Because I have. I’ve crumbled my entire future, shredded any hope of finishing college, and killed off who I used to be. And I don’t…I don’t know how to come back from something like that.”
“You don’t.”
I jerked back, but he held me immobile against him.
“Stop, and listen to me. I’m not going to belittle you by saying nothing is that bad, because some things are. Things happen that change who we are, and what we’re capable of. So you’re not going to ‘come back’ from that any more than you’re going to erase whatever you did. You have to decide if you’re going to try to keep patching yourself up or if you’re going to tear down and rebuild.”
“I don’t know how to do that.”
“You wade through the pain, and the guilt, and the excuses you make to yourself. Stop drowning in alcohol to numb the fear, and suck up the bitter taste of accountability. You move on with who you are now. It’s not easy. If you think you screwed up that badly, then maybe you did, but you also have to leave room for the chance that you didn’t. Have you talked about it?”
I shook my head. There were two of us who knew the whole truth, and that circle was big enough. “I’m not sure I’m ready to let go of everyone’s vision of who I am. It’s so much prettier than the truth.”
“Not even Ember?”
“Definitely not think-through-everything-twice Ember. She wouldn’t understand, and I’m not sure I could handle her reaction.”
He swallowed and broke our stare like it had become too much because we both knew the truth—it had. “That’s the hardest part, letting someone see who you really are—scars and all. I’m…” He cleared his throat. “You need to trust someone enough to tell them the truth. Make peace with it before it eats you alive. I listen really well if you don’t have anyone else.”
I scrambled to throw up a wall between us. It was safer when he was hurling snotty comments at me. That, I knew how to handle. But this Grayson? The one holding me carefully, keeping me warm while the storm raged outside, offering to help carry the crippling weight destroying me? I didn’t know what the hell to do with that one.
“Why would you even offer? Everything you know about me is a mess. I drink too much, wear too-little clothes, dance on bars, and impose on everyone around me because I can’t get my shit together.”
“You can get your shit together, you’ve just chosen not to up until now. You took that first step with Maggie. I’m offering because I’ve made that kind of mistake, Sam, the one you don’t come back from. I look at you, and I see what I went through. It’s too late for me.” He took a deep breath. “But you? You’re going to spring back, so yeah, I’m offering.”
“As friends?” I held my breath, needing to hear it. The push and pull, the attraction, it was all there on my side, but I wasn’t sure about his, and I wasn’t about to make an ass out of myself. We were roommates, and this could get complicated really quickly.
Our eyes locked, and heat skimmed down my limbs, leaving chills in its wake. “We’re both adults—”
“Well, trying to be,” I joked.
His lips quirked up at the corners. Almost a smile. “Right. I’m not going to say that I’m not insanely attracted to you. I don’t lie. Ever. Plus, I’d have to be dead not to realize the way you affect me. But I’m also not in any position to act on it, and let’s be honest—you’re not, either. But I think we can stop picking each other apart and be friends.”
“Friends that are insanely attracted to each other?”
He inhaled sharply, like my attraction to him had been some secret. Yeah right. I’m pretty sure my body threw out “screw me now” signals the minute he walked into a room, even when I was angry with him. Hell, perversely, especially when I was angry with him.
The siren wailed again, and I jumped, despite the exhaustion pummeling me.
“An hour to go,” I muttered, looking at my iPad.
“Relax and try to get some sleep.”
“Like there’s a chance of that.” But he tucked the comforter up to my chin and drew me closer, so my head rested on his chest.
“Just try. Some of us have to get up for work in the morning.” His tone was light and teasing, so I didn’t jump his case about giving me shit.
I yawned, feeling my body betray me and start to shut down like he’d flipped some magic Sam-sleep button. “I’m glad we can be friends.” Sleep slurred my words.

“Me, too.”

Release Blitz: The Allure Of Dean Harper By R.S. Grey

To: JosephineKeller@VogueMagazine.com
Subject: You’re a flippin’ idiot

Good morning my dear, naive friend,

I hope you’re enjoying a breakfast of regret and sorrow.

Why?

Because you sent me to work for Dean Harper, aka a control freak in a tailor-made suit. Sure he owns the trendiest restaurants in NYC, but c’mon Jo, his ego makes Kanye West look like the Dalai Lama.

He’s the type of guy that only hears the word “no” when it’s followed by “don’t stop.”

Working for Dean Harper would be like selling my soul to the devil…and before you say anything, I don’t care if the devil has punch-you-in-the-gut brown eyes and an ass to match. My soul isn’t for sale.

Regretfully yours,
Lily

The Allure of Dean Harper is a full-length standalone romance with overlapping characters from The Allure of Julian Lefray. Both books can be read separately. Chronologically, The Allure of Julian Lefray happens first.

I knew when I read the previous book that the personalities if Dean and Lily would be like gun powder and fire, explosive and I was right.  I laughed out loud so many times that my family probably thought I had cracked up mentally.  I couldn’t help it; the banter back and forth between these two stubborn characters was not only entreating from a comedy stand point but also served as their sexual foreplay.  They weren’t just explosive when at each other’s throats but also when it came for them to get down and dirty with some really hot sex.

I am quickly associating funny, sweet books with R.S. Grey.  I love her ability to have her readers laughing out loud one minute and reaching for your significant other the next.  If you haven’t picked up the first book in this series, grab it and then read The Allure Of Dean Harper.  These are books that any book lover who loves a good laugh in their books should have on their TBR lists.
I am a lover of books, chocolate, reality TV, black labs, and cold weather. Seriously, if I had it my way I would be curled up on the couch with all of those things…everyday.

I live in Texas where I spend my free time writing and reading. My favorite authors are Mindy Kaling & Jonathan Safran Foer. I’m a comedy geek and love all things funny. Women like Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Mindy Kaling are definitely the biggest inspirations for my writing, though I think my work tends to skew a bit smuttier than theirs.

Blog Tour Review & Giveaway: Dirty Talk (Mechanics of Love #2) by Megan Erickson

Brent Payton has a reputation for wanting to have fun, all the time. It’s well-earned after years of ribbing his brothers and flirting with every girl he meets, but he’s more than just a good time, even though nobody takes the time to see it. When a new girl walks into his family’s garage with big thoughtful eyes and legs for days, this mechanic wants something serious for the first time.

Ivy Dawn is done with men, all of them. She and her sister uprooted their lives for them too many times and she’s not willing to do it again. Avoiding the opposite sex at all costs seems easy enough, until the sexy mechanic with the dirty mouth bursts into her life.

Brent can’t resist the one woman who sees past his devil-may-care facade and Ivy finds it harder and harder to deny how happy he makes her. But Ivy has secrets she hasn’t shared and when the truth comes out, she must decide if she’s willing to take one more chance on love or let him go forever.

Dirty Talk, I am ashamed to say was my first Megan Erickson read. What is wrong with me?! Where have I been? I need to rectify this ASAP! Megan’s characters are absolutely amazing. Every single one of them. The main focus couple down to the secondary players. I fell in love with them all.
Where do I begin with Brent? Yeah, he gives off this don’t-take-me-serious-I’m-a-manwhore vibe, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. There is so much more to him that sadly his family and friends don’t see, but Ivy does. She sees beyond his mask to the man he wants to be. The man he keeps hidden from all others. Behind the façade, he’s smart, heroic, and extremely passionate. All things that can be very dangerous to her heart.

“But the ball’s in your court. You want to kiss me again, or…more…” He shrugged. “You know where to find me.”
Ivy has made a pact to swear off men. Being burned too many times will do that to a girl. But she isn’t prepared for Brent and his charm, nor is she equipped to handle her daughter’s reaction to him. Her sweet, little girl takes to him when usually men leave her trembling in fear. As much as she wants to give in, she made a promise to her sister, the one person she’s been able to count on for so many years. She can’t just turn her back on her. Their small family has been through too much.

“But I can’t be sorry that you’re falling for me. I just can’t. Because I already fell.”
Brent proves to her again and again that he’s serious and wants more. He fights for her. Stands up to her walls and rips through them layer by layer. But is he fighting a losing battle?

“Tell me how serious that felt,” he whispered.
Dirty Talk was such a great read. Love, action, heartwarming, and a little suspense. It’s the complete package. Do something good for yourself today and read this book!

A throat cleared. And Brent looked over to see a woman standing beside them, one hand on her hip, the other dangling at her side, holding a paper bag. Her dark eyebrows were raised, full red lips pursed.
And Brent blinked, hoping this wasn’t a mirage.
Tory, Maryland, wasn’t big, and he’d made it his mission to know every available female in the town limits and about a ten-mile radius outside of that.
This woman? He’d never seen her. He’d surely remember if he had.
Gorgeous. Long hair so dark brown it was almost black. Perfect face. It was September and still warm, so she wore a tight striped sundress that ended mid-thigh. She was tiny, probably over a foot smaller than he was. Fuck, the things that little body made him dream about. He wondered if she did yoga. Tiny and limber was his kryptonite.
Narrow waist, round hips, big tits.
No ring.
Bingo.
He smiled. Sure, she was probably a customer, but this wouldn’t be the first time he’d managed to use the garage to his advantage. Usually, he just had to toss around a tire or two, rev an engine, whatever, and they were more than eager to hand over a phone number and address. No one thought he was a consummate professional anyway, so why bother trying to be one?
He leaned his ass against the counter, crossing his arms over his chest. “Can I help you?”
She blinked, long lashes fluttering over her big blue eyes. “Can you help me?”
“Yeah, we’re full service here.” He resisted winking. That was kinda sleazy.
Her eyes widened for a fraction of a second before they shifted to Alex at his side and then back to him. Her eyes darkened for a minute, her tongue peeked out between those red lips, and then she straightened. “No, you can’t help me.”
He leaned forward. “Really? You sure?”
“Positive.”
“Like, how positive?
“I’m one hundred percent positive that I do not need help from you, Brent Payton.”
That made him pause. She knew his name. He knew he’d never met her, so that could only mean she’d heard about him somehow, and by the look on her face, it was nothing good.

Excerpt from LOVING CARA (Book 1): “This is a great place,” I murmur, and turn in a complete circle, taking everything in. The forest is thick here, but with a clearing by a wide pool of water, which is being fed by a creek that empties into it via a beautiful waterfall about twenty yards away. Slabs of rock frame the pond, making a natural ledge to sit on and enjoy nature. “This is where I’ve always come whenever I’m happy or mad or just need to think.” Josh wraps his arms around me from behind and kisses the top of my head. “You brought me to your happy place?” I ask, half kidding, and turn my head to kiss his biceps. I can’t seem to keep my lips off this man. And he doesn’t seem to mind. “It seems that anywhere you are is my happy place these days, Carolina.” I gasp and look up into his soft brown eyes. “So, I brought the person who makes me happy to my happy place,” he clarifies. Well . . . wow. Before I can respond, he kisses my lips quickly and then pulls away to grab a blanket out of a saddlebag. He takes me by the hand and leads me up onto the rocks by the water. He spreads the blanket out and pulls me down next to him. “Are you hungry?” he asks, and pushes my hair back over my shoulder. “Not quite yet.” He nods and his eyes heat as they rake down my face, my neck, and over my tank top, which I know shows off the girls nicely. If he was going to keep me perpetually turned on today, I was happy to return the favor. “You are so beautiful,” he whispers, and leans in to claim my mouth gently. His lips are gentle and soft, sweeping across my own rhythmically yet slowly, sending shivers down my arms and making my stomach clench. He has only touched me with his lips and my stomach is clenched. I’m panting, ready for him to take me right here, in the middle of nature. He cups my cheeks in the palm of his hand and pulls me closer, sinking into the kiss, but then he abruptly pulls back, his brows pulled into a frown. “You really are warm,” he mutters, and feels my neck and forehead. I laugh at him as I rub my hand up and down his firm chest. “It’s hot outside, Josh.” “Let’s cool off.” He smiles down at me wickedly and begins to peel me out of my clothes. “We might give the wildlife quite a show,” I warn him mildly, excitement coursing through me. “That’s the plan.” He winks at me and quickly strips out of his own clothes. He pulls me up onto my feet and peels my jeans and panties down my legs. “Now what?” I ask with a wide smile. “Now we cool off.”

Book Tour: Sins Of Sevin By Penelope Ward

What happens when the one you want is the only one you can’t have?
My name is Sevin.
Homeschooled and sheltered by my ultra-religious family, I was always taught that lust was a sin.
Elle was the girl who’d been carefully chosen for me.
After a long-distance courtship, I’d be moving into her family’s guesthouse so that we could get to know each other in the months before the wedding.
Boundaries were set: no inappropriate touching, no kissing, no sex before marriage.
I’d accepted those rules and my fate.
Until I met the one I wanted to sin with.
That was when restraint became a problem…especially since THE ONE wasn’t Elle.
It was her sister, Evangeline.
You know what they say about best laid plans.
My name is Sevin, and I have sinned.
Told in alternating points of view, Sins of Sevin is a full-length standalone novel.
Contains graphic sexual content and harsh language.
Only appropriate for adult readers
age 18+.

Release Boost & Review: Sweet Obsession By J. Daniels

***Author’s note*** Sweet Obsession can be read as a standalone novel.

Everyone knows Brooke Wicks loves to have a good time. She’s not interested in getting serious, settling down, or limiting herself to one man. So when she meets the sexy, irresistible Mason King, she sees another opportunity to let loose and go wild. But the gorgeous Aussie isn’t interested in just a quick fling with Brooke, and if she wants to get into his bed, she’s going to have to do it on his terms.

Loving fast and hard has always been Mason’s philosophy. He doesn’t want a meaningless connection, he wants it all, and he wants it with Brooke. When she makes her one desire known—to hit it and quit it—Mason wages a plan to ensure Brooke keeps coming back for more. Or so he hopes.

Getting her attention was the easy part. Keeping it might be damn near impossible.

Sweet Obsession is where the Sweet Addiction series meets the Alabama Summer series.

I am ashamed to admit that I had had the first two books on my kindle for a while and only finally got around to reading them when I was preparing to read Sweet Obsession.  I loved the first two books but was apprehensive about a book about Brooke, I just wasn’t sure that I would want to read about her because let’s face it she was kind of a whore.  I also have read the Alabama Summer series and it took me a minute to remember who Mason was, but I quickly did.
Mason and Brooke had so much chemistry that I was wondering if I needed to take cover for when they finally came together.  Mason wants more than just sex from Brooke and I loved how he wasn’t your typical male, he wanted a deeper foundation and he knew if they didn’t have that Brooke would run.  Brooke surprised me in a good way, and while it took me a little while to really warm up to her once you see that she is more than the sarcastic, sex loving, a little bit flaky woman we saw in the first two books.  She was confident but at the same time she didn’t think she was good enough.  We got to see the really Brooke.
I loved that Joey and Billy played a big role in the book as well.  I love them together, and every time I see “God Damnit, Billy” I laugh so hard because for me that is one of those phrases I will always associate with this series.  I really do hope we get to see more of their relationship in future books.

Don’t be like me and wait to read any of the books in this series.  They are funny, sexy and ones that you must put on your TBR lists.  J. Daniels has quickly become an author that I know I will one-click without any second thoughts.

Cover Reveal: Ready, Willing and Abel By Sarah O’Rourke

Release Date: October 13, 2015

Patience McKinnon has never even tried to live up to her unfortunate name. Her sisters would gladly point out that she’s impetuous, fickle, and stubborn to a fault. History has taught her that she’s the only one, besides those crazy sisters, that has her best interests at heart…and she’s not about to let down her guard and let herself get hurt. She did that once…and that was more than enough. Next time, she’s fairly certain that she’d rather just shoot first and ask questions later, thank you very much! Enter Abel Turner. The suave town attorney has had Patience McKinnon in his sights for years. Sure, he strayed along the way, but he’s always come back to the beautiful blonde bartender that fills his dreams and drives him crazy at the same time. After all, he owes her…and he plans to rectify the bad impression he made in the past with a humdinger of a sensual night. But that one night may just change both of their worlds…forever. Will Patience overcome her insecurities? And will Abel ever convince her to trust him again? Join the entire town of Paradise and the intrepid McKinnon sisters in this humorous and poignant erotica romance! Standalone.

Maybe she’d been Roofied. That could explain it. She’d love to blame drugs for her traitorous body’s reaction to his. Unfortunately, she’d watched the bartender pour every shot she’d downed during the evening. She knew nobody had spiked her drink.
Nope, the sad fact was that Abel Turner still turned her on in a way no other man could.
And that really sucked.
“I want a do-over,” he growled, his body somehow getting impossibly closer as he held her against the wall.
“A what-what?” Patience snapped. She couldn’t have heard him right. No way.
“A do-over,” he repeated, sliding his free hand around her waist to stroke the curve of her lower back. “I told you I wanted one the night you got shot… you know, when you were announcing to the entire staff of Paradise General Hospital that I had a defective decorated dick and couldn’t last more than the three pumps it took to achieve satisfaction. You were stoned, and might not remember it, but I told you then that I wanted one night to do it over again with you.”
Oh, she wouldn’t admit it, but she remembered it fine. Other details might be a little fuzzy from that night, but feeling Abel’s hot breath fanning her face as he’d told her all the things he intended to do to her was not a memory she’d lost. His words had been a promise that she had no intention of helping him keep.
Hell, no.
Even if she’d satisfied herself every night since remembering all those darkly erotic vows he’d made to her.
She’d just never thought he’d have the balls to actually make a move. Especially not when she’d laughed in his face. Loudly.
Once again, it appeared she was wrong.
“We’re not having a do-over, Abel,” Patience denied, trying to wriggle away from him and only succeeding in rubbing against his body like a cat in heat. “We did it once, and you failed miserably, Big Boy. Once would be enough for anybody that knows what I know. Unlike your other conquests, your penis holds no powers of persuasion for me. Your penis is just a penis – bedazzled though it might be.”
Abel dropped his head, nuzzling her neck as he chuckled. “You are hell on a man’s ego, Baby Girl, but I’m not giving up. I want you. You want me…”

Book Tour: The Lies Between Us By M.N. Forgy

Cherry’s life growing up was nothing short of a nightmare. Having an abusive father forced her to fend for herself from an early age. Bruised and emotionally broken, she finally escaped, running straight into the comfort that Lip’s arms brought. In the beginning, everything seemed to fall into place perfectly. He made her forget the messed-up ways of her life. But secrets can’t stay neglected. They have a habit of revealing themselves regardless of the consequences. Terrified, Cherry can’t speak a word or she’ll lose it all.

Lip is no stranger to the criminal life. Growing up among convicts, he wanted nothing more than to show his worth. He’ll do anything for the club without question, including serving six years in prison. But nobody could have predicted life’s plan. Rugged, tattooed, and wanting nothing more than to have Cherry, Lip is no longer the man whom Cherry remembers. After his release, he came out a beast with more secrets and lies than his cage could hold.

I will admit that while I was curious about Cherry and Lip’s story, I wasn’t sure if I would be super excited to read it.  I think it is because up until now they were almost a second thought, not someone in your face like the previous books have been.  I was so wrong to ever think that.  I have always said secrets and lies will come back to haunt you, especially if they are something that can destroy relationships.  The Lies Between Us was titled perfectly because the lies that are told are not only life changing but also heart breaking.  I literally was on the edge of my seat with my stomach flipping because you could feel the angst pouring out of your kindle and into your body.
Cherry’s past broke my heart, I understood why she kept the secret she did.  She had so much to lose and nothing to gain if it came out.  Her feelings for Lip were real, solid and honestly I don’t know any woman who would stick around for as long as Cherry did after Lip went to prison after only knowing him for such a short time.  Lip is an asshole when he is released, and when certain secrets come to light I wanted to kick him straight in the balls.  I hated it.  I hate lies.  I hate heartbreak and for a while there I hated Lip.  He does win me back over though so have no fear.

M.N. Forgy, woman, you blew me away.  Each book of this series has gotten better and better.  You know how to make your reader’s hearts shred apart before you repair the damage you inflicted.  I am an addict needing my next Devil’s Dust fix.  This is a series that needs to be on everyone’s TBR lists, it will keep you on that edge between heaven and hell and right before you think you are falling and will lift you up and show you why life and love may not always be easy but it’s worth fighting for.
After he leaves, I open his wallet, reading his name, address, weight. All of it.
“Phillip DeLuca.” I taste his name running off my lips as I trace my finger over his picture. He’s so handsome. He’s the kind of guy most people would be afraid of, but not me. I want to get to know him. Lost in a daydream, my car door is yanked open.
“Where the fuck is it, bitch?”
“What?” I shriek as I’m pulled out of the car and slammed forward onto the hot hood. “I don’t have anything!” I scream, trying to pull free. He shoves me back down on the hood. His hand tangled in my hair.
“Don’t think about moving,” he spits, his tone harsh. I roll my eyes and continue leaning over the hood. My heart slams against my chest in pure panic, and my hands shake. He pulls away and leans in to the car. Within seconds, he finds his wallet. Shit.
He peers at me with a fierce energy in his eyes. The intensity has me pulling off the hood, scared out of my mind.
“You have some balls,” he mutters, shoving his wallet back in his pocket. His tone is soft and tender suddenly. I turn my head and eye him angrily.
“Fuck you.” I cross my arms and lean my hip against the car. My choice of words more confident than I’m feeling.
He steps up to me and grabs my hips hard with both hands. My skin burns, and my mouth parts with desire. His brown eyes find mine, and his hands yank my body closer to his. I feel like all the air is sucked from my lungs as I search his dark eyes. Placing my hands on his solid chest to steady myself, my palms buzz with excitement.
“You’d like that, wouldn’t you?” He looks me up and down and leans in close. “You’d like it if I pushed you over the hood of this car and fucked you ‘til your legs gave out.” His words feather against my lips, he’s so close. I hold my breath, willing my body to pull away, but I don’t move. Just when I think he’s going to kiss me, he grabs my hand and pulls it upward. I furrow my brows and watch as he pulls a pen from his back pocket, pulling the cap off with his teeth. He writes his number and the word ‘Lip’ on my hand.
“Call me. Don’t make me come find you, Cherry.”
“Cherry?” I ask out loud.
“Your swimsuit,” he yells over his shoulder before starting his bike. I look down at my white shirt noticing my cherry bikini peeking out from the bust line. A smile creeps across my face. I know I shouldn’t like him, but I kind of do. Driving past me, he winks and I swear I sigh like a damn fool.

Blog Tour: The Marine In Unit A By Kris Cook

The man who has been more of a dad to me than my biological father is dead.
He rescued me from the streets six years ago—a runaway teenage boy, escaping a family who thought I was an abomination.
Now what do I do? I have no one.
My life might look great from the outside. I’m in college. I have my own apartment. I have lots of friends.
But I’m dying on the inside.
I feel so alone. Lost. Hopeless.
I’m not the kind of person to wallow in self-pity. I need a distraction.
The guy moving into Unit A may be just what I need to take my mind off of losing my dad.
****
21-year old Oliver Lancaster is attracted to 22-year old Adam Stockton, the former-Marine moving into Unit A. But attraction for the closeted man morphs quickly into something deeper, something meaningful, something that terrifies Oliver. What will happen if Adam learns about the secret from his past?
Warning: contains skinny dipping, two hot men kissing, and sexual situations taking place in a 10-unit Mediterranean complex filled with college-aged hotties.

I stay behind as everyone says their goodbyes to him. I’m not ready to leave.
He hugs Martha and Sarah last. They wave to me, and then walk out.
When Adam shuts the door, I ask him, “How about another beer? There’s three left.”
“Actually, I’m hungry. Are you?”
“Starving.”
He walks into the kitchen and holds up a grocery bag. “You like ramen noodles? I’m not much of a cook and I figured it might be too late to go out by the time I finished. I was right, even with all the help of our wonderful neighbors and you.”
This will be our first meal together. “Noodles and beer? Sounds perfect.”
Adam laughs. “I even got cupcakes for dessert. Now all we need to do is find a pot in one of these boxes so we can boil the noodles.”
A few minutes later, our dinner is ready to eat.
He looks in several boxes. “I found forks but no plates or bowls. Oh, well. I guess we’ll have to eat out of the pot. And since my dining room table is loaded with boxes and my new sofa won’t be delivered until tomorrow, we’ll have to sit on the floor.” He walks into the living room, carrying a couple of forks and our pot of noodles.
I plop down in the same place I sat in before everyone else arrived. “It’ll be like an indoor picnic.”
He laughs, sits down next to me and then scoots even closer. So close my heart skips a beat.
Adam holds the pot out for me. “You take the first bite.”
Heat rushes through me as I twirl my fork in the pot. I wonder if he realizes how intimate this feels. Was my first instinct about him right? Is he gay? I’m confused. I’m not about to bring up that subject now, especially remembering how he acted when I mentioned the gay strip club. Right now I must be patient with him. I like Adam. If he isn’t gay, I hope we can at least be friends. But if he is…well, that is a different story.
As I taste the noodles, his eyes are fixed on me. “How did I do, Oliver?”
“Delicious.” I haven’t eaten ramen noodles in a very long time. Malcolm was an excellent cook and taught me everything he knew about the kitchen. We always ate like kings. “It has a flavor I can’t quite figure out.”
Laughing, Adam places his arm around me. “It’s beer. I’m no chef and I don’t have any spices except salt and pepper, but I thought if I poured some of my beer in the pot it might make our noodles taste better.”
“It does taste great. Good idea.”
“Really? You’re not just saying that, are you?”
“Yes. Really.” I smile at his enthusiasm. I’ve witnessed a sliver of his dark side when he adamantly stated he wasn’t gay. But now, he seems completely relaxed and open. This seems to be another side to his personality. How many sides does he have? Adam is still a mystery to me.
We polish off the entire pot of noodles quickly.
“I guess we were hungry.” He finishes his beer and remains next to me. “Ready for dessert?”
I would much rather taste his lips, but for now, I will settle for a cupcake. “I would love dessert.”
He jumps to his feet, collecting our two forks and the empty pot, and returns to the kitchen.
Again, I notice his slight limp. I really wish I knew what happened to him. But if I say something it might end the evening, and I don’t want it to end. We’ve only had a little time alone together. I want more, but feel if I stay much longer, I will screw things up.
He brings the cupcakes on a napkin. “There’s a chocolate and a vanilla. Which one do you want?”
I look into his dark eyes, wondering what it would be like to hold him close. “Chocolate, please.”
“That’s my favorite, too.” He sits down even closer to me than before, the sides of our legs touching with only the fabric of our jeans keeping our skin apart.
My heart begins to race. “How about we cut the cupcakes in two, Adam, and split them? That way we both get a taste of our favorite.”
He laughs in such a way I can’t help but smile. It’s hearty and warm. “Oliver, you’re a genius.”
He takes a bite of his chocolate slice and closes his eyes. “Mmm.”
I can’t help but stare at the drop of icing that is on his thick lips. When his tongue appears and sweeps it into his mouth, I think I’m going to pass out. He is the hottest guy I’ve ever met. I need to get control of myself or my excitement will get the better of me.
Adam’s eyes pop open. “What are you waiting for? It’s delicious.”
I take a bite of mine. In the sexiest voice I can muster, I say, “It is so delicious—sweet, moist, and creamy.”
“You should be the bakery’s spokesperson. Have you ever thought about doing commercials?”
So much for trying to sound sexy, but I’m not ready to give up. Not yet. “No, I never have.”
“You should consider it. You’ve got a great voice.”
“Thanks. This has been a blast, Adam.”
“A blast?” He grins again. “I’m glad but I feel like I’ve taken advantage of you. This has been a lot of work.”
Please take advantage of me. “Next time I want to cook dinner for you.”
“That would be great. I’ll bring a six-pack or a bottle of wine. But don’t think you have to top my meal.” He grins, holding up his remaining cupcake half. “This is five-star dining at its best.”
“Yes, it is. And the company can’t be beat.” Despite how much I want to stay, I wrap up the remainder of my dessert in the napkin. “It’s late. I better go.”
A flash of disappointment appears on his face and then quickly vanishes. He gets up on his feet. “Thanks, buddy. Without your help and all the other neighbors pitching in, I wouldn’t have been able to get the truck unloaded.” He holds out his hand in the universal gesture of friendship.
Is this all we are ever going to be? Just friends?
I can’t resist testing the water, just a little. “Come on, buddy. We’ve shared noodles. We’re friends who deserve a hug.” I pull him in and he doesn’t resist.
It still doesn’t confirm my suspicions about him, but it does give me a reason to hope.
