Review: Always by Lynsay Sands

Always was a fun, romantic read that left my heart full.

Rosamunde was raised in a convent and prepared to take the veil to become a nun. But her father, King Henry, had a different path in mind for his illegitimate daughter. She was his favorite after all, and he would see that she was well cared for and loved.
Aric, just ending his engagement to a cheating harlot and left with major trust issues, had absolutely no desire to ever marry. King Henry, however, gave him no say in the matter. Aric was always the king’s first choice when thinking of a husband for his daughter. And thanks to Aric’s recent single status, the king gets what he wants.
Of course it isn’t exactly marital bliss for the newly wedded couple. There are plenty of bumps to smooth out. Which is to be expected from two strangers unexpectedly thrown together.
Rosamunde may be the king’s daughter, but she is in no way spoiled. Raised to be fully self-efficient and reliable, she is used to caring and tending to her own matters. Her main responsibility and passion at the convent was working in the stables with the animals. Aric, however, still feeling the effects of his ex-betrothed, lets his jealousy and fears consume him in regards to Rosamunde. He stifles and tries to control her actions, thinking that by limiting her he can prevent her from being unfaithful. Sadly, he misses the point that Rosamunde is nothing like his vile ex or other women from his past. But, he will learn.
There were quite a few times throughout the story that had me shaking with laughter. Obviously, Rosamunde is naïve when it comes to matters of the bedroom, and one really shouldn’t get sex advice from a nun and a bishop. Just…no. I felt for Aric during those times. He actually feared bedding his wife at one point. Then there was her affinity for caring for animals. There’s a scene where she’s nursing a horse back to health that you really need to read for yourself. It was hilarious.
Best of all about this book though was seeing these two people slowly come to trust in each other and love one another–to the point where they’d risk their own lives for the other. Watching Aric come to learn what is was to be truly loved and cared for and feel those things in return is pretty heartwarming. And seeing Rosamunde bloom from a young woman out of her element into a strong, fierce protector and lover is pretty amazing.
This was a 4 star read for me.

Review: Marked (Hostage Rescue Team #1) by Kaylea Cross

Where do I begin with this book? The writing itself is well done. The chemistry between Rachel and Jake is very good. The intimate scenes are scorching. However, there are just too many illogical things for me to ignore.
Rachel is being targeted by an FBI wanted terrorist and her family is in grave danger. However, instead of the FBI putting her in some sort of safe house, her would be love interest, who works for the FBI, checks her into a hotel. And from there coordinates with hotel security, apprising them of the situation. Really?!
I pushed on because well, I had such high hopes for this one. Hopes that were again dashed…fifty percent in.
The story up to this point had been told from the two point of views of the main characters, Rachel and Jake. Then it switched, out of the blue, and we got a scene from a secondary character’s POV. I get it. I do. The author needed to make a transition in the story, move it along. And by move it along, I mean, we had to see the connection of the love interest for the secondary character, thus setting up a future story. So, from here to the end of the book, we now get scenes every now and then told to us from two of the secondary characters. Okay, great. What’s not so great, is the unrealistic way in which the author wrote some of the scenes. For instance, Celida, an FBI agent and previous Marine, is completely taken down by a FLESH WOUND TO THE ARM. The arm! A well trained government agent, taken out by a bullet graze on her arm. She can’t stop the terrorists from coming for Rachel. Which by the way, she wasn’t even assigned to protect, because no one was assigned to protect Rachel. Agents were stationed in the lobby, and don’t forget hotel security was made aware of the danger. So, Celida collapses to the floor and apparently lacks training because the bad guys very easily overtook her and she quickly blacked out. “She’s concussed.” <–yes, that is a direct quote. I would insert an eyeroll if I could.
By this point, my view is tainted. That whole Celida scene and the nonchalance handling of Rachel’s safety stayed in the back of my mind and cast a shadow over the rest of the story. But hey, if plot doesn’t bother you much and you want to read some really steamy, well-written, intimate scenes, then this is the book for you.
I just need to add one more thing, the issues I had with this book should have been caught and pointed out by the author’s editor. Whether the editor failed to catch them, or the author failed to listen to her editor, I’m sure we’ll never know. When writing anything along the lines of contemporary, yes this is a romantic suspense and therefore falls under the contemporary umbrella, a story needs to be somewhat believable. And for me, there were just too many unbelievable things for me to swallow.

Review: A Wife for the Future by Emerald Lavere

Humanity is in danger of extinction. The population has severely diminished. Too many scientists playing God in the past, guaranteeing an increase in the male birthrate, has catastrophic consequences in the future. Females are now rare, and thus greatly treasured. Wars have been fought, borders realigned, and the world as we know it is unrecognizable…all to the lack of women.
A Wife for the Future is an Adult Dystopian romance filled with plenty of steam, tenderness, and an underlining thought provoking plot. We have plenty of countries now that prefer males over females. What if doctors and scientists start tinkering with the genetic code, slowly eliminating the ratio of females born? Let’s face it, as much as certain cultures prefer males over females, they need women. Women and men go hand in hand. You cannot create life without the other.
I found this story to be absolutely original and fresh. Ashling comes from our current time. If you’ve read book 1, The Wikomsette, you learned that her mom is from the present, while her dad is from the future. [Quick recap: Her dad was part of an elite team of scientists chosen to go back in time to try to correct the wrong and save mankind.] Ashling is aware of her father’s true identity, and what is expected of her. On her twentieth birthday, she and her father must return to his time. She’s needed in the future. Humanity needs her in the future.
With the shortage of women, it’s perfectly acceptable and expected for women to take on more than one husband. A tribe of men. And keep the human race going. Men between certain ages are presented to her for her choosing. Sharing herself with multiple men wasn’t as much of a shock as she expected, but the fact that these men were okay with it, no jealousy whatsoever, at times astounded and confused her. There is a sort of role reversal in the future. Men are happy and eager to work, tend to the home, and raise the kids, while assuring the woman is content in life. Um…I’d like to visit this majestic place.
I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the connections Ashling formed between her and her men. Each man is different and unique. They each bring a different dynamic to the home and the bedroom. My favorite though was a man who wasn’t a husband…yet. Oh, but I desperately wanted him to be.
Everything’s not exactly orgasmic bliss though. There are evils lurking in the background, threatening to rock the foundation. And her father is caught up in the nightmare. Set up and falsely imprisoned for crimes he did not commit.
The action that ensues and where the story takes us in the end is well told and kept me on edge. The overall wrap up left me teary eyed and completely satisfied. I really did not want to see this story end. I wanted the characters to continue on and entertain me. I was THAT drawn to them.
Emerald Lavere did a phenomenal job connecting both books and bringing this duet to an end.

If you are like me and have wanted to read the One To Hold series but just never got the chance because of life, other books or just whatever excuse you have now is the time to not only grab this box set but to start reading this series!  I can’t believe I kept pushing this series back and am now wishing I had started it when it first came out.  I should note that these are not in series order but are the stories of Melissa and Derek, so I didn’t want you to wonder why the other books aren’t listed.

Instead of reviewing each book individually because that could turn into a pretty long review I will just give my overall review of the books included in this box set: One To Hold, One To Protect and One To Save, which are the books that surround Melissa & Derek in the series.  Each book will have you emotional, on the edge of your seat, feeling the passion between the characters, the pain, the heart break, the love.  When I sat down to type this review I had a ton of quotes that I wanted to include and if you know me it is rare that I include quotes in my reviews, but these I think will give you all a glimpse into why I am saying that you need to read these books.  Some will make you swoon, some will make you reaching for your significant other but I hope that these will make you go buy this box set right now.

“I know right then she’s saying she’ll do whatever I want, and that’s the funny thing with power. When the one you love gives it to you, you start looking for every opportunity to give it back or at the very least, use it for her happiness.”  -One To Hold

“Haven’t you been doing it over the phone?” “Mmm…” Another crunch. “That’s actually more frustrating. He tells me all this dirty stuff he wants to do to me, and he’s a million miles away! It’s awful!” “You’re supposed to finish while you’re on the phone, dum-dum.” “I’m still all achy and needing him.” I hear her sit up fast. “Do you have a dildo?” Laughter bursts out of me then. “I have Derek.” “Not all week! What are you hiding? I bet you have a stash.” –One To Protect

“We don’t disturb the moment, though. The truth might be that both of us are strong as iron, tough as flint, but holding each other, we know how precious it is that we’re here, together. The randomness of chance keeps us both in awe, and for that, we treasure these moments.” –One To Protect

“This story isn’t over.” His face turns serious. “Not by a longshot.”-One To Save

“I love you.”

“Not enough to keep your promise.”-One To Save

Those are just a little glimpse  into why you need to find out why I enjoyed Melissa and Derek’s story so very much.  I want you to take the journey yourself and not read every single detail being listed in this review.  I always try to never spoil it for readers, because reading the words for the first time, feeling the emotions, the edge of your seat suspense is something that shouldn’t be ruined.  Trust me you will not want to only read these but the other books in the series as well which is exactly what I am going to do!

“Secrets”
Melissa
In the cool darkness of the semi-crowded bar, I study the glass in front of me and consider my journey, how many steps I’ve taken in the last two years, how far I’ve come. Memories of my old life fade like smoke in a glass. The shame that held me so tightly now dances at the edges of my mind like the whisper of a bad dream, a flicker of shadows that no longer make sense in my world.
Young women in shiny slip-dresses twist and laugh on the dance floor, but instead of resentment, my lips curl into a smile. My old self—cynical, bitter, defeated—is a memory I have to work hard to recall. These days I could dance all night with them, but I’d rather spend my energy on other things.
The slim glass holds a pale amber liquid, and I can’t resist taking a sip. An involuntary wince pinches my eyes as I put it down. Seven and seven. Refreshing citrus dragged down by the heavy undertone of whiskey. So gross.
Sliding my palms over my thighs, I realize my outfit isn’t much different from the girls’ on the dance floor. The deep red silk is fitted at my waist, and drapes loosely over my torso. My long, dark hair is swept over one shoulder revealing a thin spaghetti strap. I lightly touch the delicate gold chain around my neck leading to the floating heart pendant that sits between my collarbones, and light glances off the thick gold cuff on my wrist.
Unlike that night almost two years ago, I’m alone. My best friend Elaine is miles away with her new husband, most likely indulging in that blissful honeymoon period of early marriage. Make that, most certainly indulging. I know those two well.
No, I came by myself to this bar in Princeton after finishing my business with a client in town. My infant son is in Wilmington, spending the weekend with his grandmother. Studying my hands, I admire the deep blue sapphire ring on my finger, but I have no wedding band.
At thirty-two, I’m an unmarried mother of a beautiful little boy, and I wouldn’t change a thing… Yet. The tiny silver scar at my hairline reminds me of what a bad marriage looks like, and with my successful marketing business and the gorgeous cottage at the beach I own, I’m satisfied with my life. Calm, not desperate. I’ll take my next steps deliberately, with certainty.
All these thoughts preoccupy my mind when I blink up and catch him watching me from across the square-shaped bar. Blue eyes, strikingly blue because of the way they stand out beneath his dark brow, coupled with collar-length thick dark hair.
He’s massive, at least six-two, and elegantly dressed with a thick stainless watch on his wrist. I can spot his type a mile away—rich, powerful, accustomed to getting what he wants. I can’t deny the hum his gaze sets off under my skin. I know what he wants.
Catching my lip in my teeth to stop my grin, I know what I want, too, and it’s no coincidence I happened to look up at that exact moment to meet his stare. Still, I’ll make him work for it.
He starts to move, his eyes never leaving mine. I don’t look away either. Thick cords of muscle ripple beneath the thin black sweater he wears as he glides past the oblivious patrons talking and laughing. Some are more animated than others, waving their arms and putting their drinks in peril.
Yellow lights hidden in the recesses above the bar illuminate rows of liquor bottles in all colors and shapes. Glasses hanging upside down above also catch the flickering light. It’s a raucous atmosphere, but this man and I are in our own secret place of longing and desire.
As he rounds the final corner, and I see him in full, my breath quickens. My eyes drift from his broad shoulders to his narrow waist, grey slacks and black shoes, then back up just as he reaches me. A close beard shadows his face, and the muscles low in my pelvis tighten at the thought of how it feels brushing the soft skin of my inner thighs.

Blog HOP: A Perfect Man for Christmas – An erotic serial in 12 parts

 A Perfect Man for Christmas
An erotic serial in 12 parts
Blog HOP
 8th Day of Christmas
by Kay Manis

Thanks for the ride.” Wynter flashed Michael a mischievous smirk and slammed his car door, rattling the leather console.
She was going to pay for that. No one fucked with his baby…and by baby, he meant the Porsche 918 Spyder that purred underneath him.
Wynter tucked one of those fucking swans under her arm as she sauntered into the hotel lobby. She said you could attract more men with a swan than honey. “Don’t wait up!” She blew him an obnoxious kiss and waved good-bye as her luscious hips swayed from side to side. She was on a mission and as Michael wanted to stop her, he couldn’t.
Michael growled. Damn foolish woman is going to banish all to Hades.
May I park your car, sir?” The valet saddled up to his Porsche, licking his lips in anticipation.
Yeah, right, you little pimply-faced kid. Like I’m gonna let you spin out the tires of my million dollar sports car.
Michael gazed out the passenger side window and watched helplessly as Wynter disappeared into the mass of half-naked men inside. What the fuck? Was there a stripper convention at this hotel? The men parted like melted butter and stared at her backside as she waltzed through the crowd. She was good. Too good. Fuck.
Fine,” he growled through gritted teeth at the valet.
He stumbled back as if Michael had struck him.
Michael shoved the car door and held it open for the twerp but stepped in front of him before allowing him inside his precious baby. His massive body towered over the boy’s small frame. “If there is one scratch on this motherfucker, one teensy, tiny scratch when I get it back, I’ll rip your head off, shit down your neck and feed you to the fucking swans at my girlfriend’s house. Got it?”
Wait, what? Girlfriend? What the fuck? Did he just call Wynter his girlfriend? He hadn’t had a partner, a girlfriend, hell, a wife for that matter, in over two hundred years. If Wynter fucked this assignment up, that would all change though.
Y-yes, sir,” the boy stuttered. “N-not a scratch.”
The poor kid sounded like a bumbling fool. Maybe Michael should put him on his payroll. He laughed at the lunacy.
Michael watched as the valet slid into the driver’s seat and drove away at a snail’s pace. Good boy. At least he wouldn’t have to cast a spell that kept the kid’s pecker limp for the rest of his life.
With a heavy sigh, Michael waltzed through the hotel doors, not surprised to see a flock of men around Wynter. They looked like the squawking birds in her back yard.
Girlfriend.Michael laughed to himself. Wynter was nothing more than a piece of ass, a mission. She could have all the men she wanted as long as she found the perfect one before Christmas.
As if sensing his presence, Wynter’s gaze caught his. One side of her plump lips curled into a delicious smirk.
Mission. Mission. He reminded himself. She’s just a mission. A means to an end…your end if you fuck this up.
Suddenly the shrill sound of women screaming came from behind him.
Michael turned on his heels.
Not one, not two but…wait…Was that eightfucking chicks flooding out of the elevator? Their screams echoed through the hotel as if their hair extensions were on fire. They were dressed the same, in hotel uniforms marking them as maids.
A Dios, mio!” one shouted.
Help! Help!” A pixie minx with red hair slammed into him. “Get it out of here!” She pointed back toward the elevator.
What’s going on?” One of the strippers who’d been enthralled by Wynter saddled up to him.
He eyeballed the guy up and down, his menacing gaze obviously speaking volumes as the stripper stepped away.
He pushed the maid away and gazed down into her blue eyes. “What’s going on?”
It’s a…”
Yes?” he asked.
Mierda es un reno!” a Hispanic woman screamed, jumping up and down, her hands slapping against her hips.
Did you say moose?” His Spanish was rusty, but he was pretty sure that was the translation.
No! Es un reno! Salga de aquí!”
Holy, hell,” Wynter whispered next to him. “Is that a fucking reindeer?”
Yes.” The redhead nodded, her body trembling. “And the man in the ivory suit asked if we wanted to ‘milk his reindeer.’” She used air quotes. “He made it sound–” Her eyes darted between Wynter and him as she leaned in closer. “–sexual,” she whispered.
Kris Kringle,” he and Wynter said in unison.
Eight maids a’ milking.
That motherfucker was the biggest practical jokester Michael had ever met. “Enough with the symbolism, Kris,” he moaned.
Ho, ho, ho!” Kris’s robust voice echoed through the lobby as he led the reindeer through the posh hotel like it was an everyday occurrence. “I didn’t mean you’re a whore, Wynter.” Kris laughed as he nudged my arm. “Although you have been on my naughty list for quite some time.” His white eyebrows waggled as he ogled Wynter.
Michael wanted to punch him in the nuts. Kids may adore him, but Kris Kringle was the biggest man whore on the face of the earth.
The reindeer picked that moment to lay a massive Christmas “gift” on the imported Italian tile floor.
Ewww!” everyone groaned.
Word in the Underworld is that you’re looking for the perfect man, Wynter.” Kris smirked and held out his arms. “Here I am.”

Book Tour: Zero Hour By Lili St. Germain

They say a human being needs few things to exist.
A purpose,
Hope for the future,
But most of all…
Love.
Juliette Portland had all of those things. Her purpose was simple: Seduce. Deceive. Kill. Avenge. Once Dornan Ross and his sons were dead, her future was supposed to be clear. Her life was finally going to begin. And love… Against all the odds, she had the love of a boy she never thought she’d see again.
Everything should have gone according to plan. Everything should have been easy once Dornan was dead and buried.
Of course, life has a way of fucking with even the most meticulous of plans, and calling in owed debts can have the most severe consequences. Thanks to Juliette’s diabolical retribution, the Il Sangue Cartel has lost it’s Kingpin, but not for long. There’s always someone in the wings, ready to step onstage and seize power. The Gypsy Brothers Motorcycle Club might be reeling from the deaths of their President and his six patch-wearing sons, but they’ve come back swinging.
Two deadly enemies, hundreds of bloodthirsty members, both sides eager to punish those that would try to topple them.
Two survivors, a man and a woman, forced to flee in the night.
For Juliette, vengeance is a hollow victory.
It never, ever ends.
The flames of incomplete vengeance are licking at her heels, and it’s only a matter of time before the Il Sangue cartel and the Gypsy Brothers catch her in their grip and crush her.
Unless she crushes them first.
It’s no secret that I have loved the Gypsy Brother MC series since the very first glimpse of the darkness, death and disturbing scenes that this series has given us.  Revenge is at times bittersweet, what happens once you found your revenge but still haven’t been able to find that peace you hoped it would bring?  Especially when that peace also consists of you still running, only this time from the Cartel.  Juliette and Jase have been through so much already, if you know this series you know exactly what I am talking about, so will they be able to keep their relationship together through even more?  These are all questions you ask while reading Zero Hour

In true Lili St. Germain form, be prepared for your mind to be fucked with, to reach into that dark scary place inside of your soul that holds those dark thoughts and feeds those disturbing thoughts that only this series can bring.  This has been a series that has stayed consistent from beginning to end, every book has been one that I know I won’t forget anytime soon.  If you haven’t already read this series and are a fan of a dark romance then add this to your TBR list, if you read everything up until Zero Hour make sure you read the final book you won’t be disappointed.

This trailer was shot on location in Venice Beach by Red14 Films, exclusively for Lili!

I don’t even stop to see what kind of furniture the room consists of. I throw Juliette on the floor and pounce on her like I’m a lion and she’s my catch.
My dick’s inside her within three seconds of the door closing, even though its dark in here, the only light from a couple of candles throwing off weak light. It could be the middle of the day and I wouldn’t have a clue, because all I can see is Juliette Portland underneath me, her legs spread and her pussy full of me. I put my hands around her neck. I want to squeeze. I want to choke her so fucking badly. Goddamn it! I stop grinding my cock into her. I just stop.
“I don’t want to hurt you,” I whisper in the dark. “Julz, the things I used to do in this place—I used to hurt people and get off on it. I don’t want to hurt you, baby.”
She reaches up and grabs hold of my face; I can just make out her eyes, her pupils almost swallowing any trace of green.
“Jase,” she breathes, “What if I want you to hurt me?”

Lili writes dark romance, suspense and paranormal stories. Her serial novel, Seven Sons, was released in early 2014, with the following books in the series to be released in quick succession. Lili quit corporate life to focus on writing and so far is loving every minute of it. Her other loves in life include her gorgeous husband and beautiful daughter, good coffee, Tarantino movies and spending hours on Pinterest.
She loves to read almost as much as she loves to write.

In New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Kristen Proby’s brand new series, five best friends open a hot new restaurant, but one of them gets much more than she bargained for when a sexy former rock star walks through the doors—and into her heart. Seduction is quickly becoming the hottest new restaurant in Portland, and Addison Wade is proud to claim 1/5 of the credit. She’s determined to make it a success and can’t think of a better way to bring in new customers than live music. But when former rock star Jake Keller swaggers through the doors to apply for the weekend gig, she knows she’s in trouble. Addie instantly recognizes him—his posters were plastered all over her bedroom walls in high school—he’s all bad boy…exactly her type and exactly what she doesn’t need. Jake Keller walked away from the limelight five years ago and yearns to return to what’s always driven him: the music. If he gets to work for a smart-mouthed, funny-as-hell bombshell, all the better. But talking Addie into giving him the job is far easier than persuading her that he wants more than a romp in her bed. Just when she begins to drop her walls, Jake’s past finally catches up with him. Will Addie be torn apart once again or will Jake be able to convince her to drown out her doubts and listen to her heart?

Review: A McKenzie Christmas (McKenzie Brothers #5.5) by Lexi Buchanan

Spend December with each of the McKenzie siblings as they start their own family traditions and try to keep the romance alive with the stress of the season.
Michael and Lily struggle to find a private moment together when the twins and new baby constantly need their attention.

Sebastian is aware of something that Carla should have known well before him.

Ruben and Rosie find the spirit of Christmas on the ice, and move forward with their life in a surprise that Ruben has planned.

Lucien is still haunted by ghosts of his past, but with Sabrina’s help, he’s finally able to move past it.

Ramon and Noah spend the evening of their wedding preparing for their honeymoon. (MM explicit chapter)

And the Epilogue, well, you’ll have to read the novella…

This is a must have for any McKenzie Brothers series fan. I loved revisiting each couple. The whole book is full of warmth, love, and of course tantalizing heat.
Michael and Lily’s family has grown, and as most parents with kids, struggle to find the time to keep the fire alive. They love each other, immensely, but with a set of twins and a newborn, having the energy to devote to your spouse at the end of the day can be exhausting. Thanks to a little grandma intervention, they get that much needed and wanted time together.
Sebastian is usually the goofy one of the McKenzie brothers. He loves life and it’s evident. It’s also killing him to keep his lips shut when he realizes something that Carla really should have suspected. Of course his wife knows he’s concealing something and tries to extract the info from him. Results may not go as she planned, but it’s sure as heck hot to read her attempt it.
Rosie is such a breath of fresh air for Ruben. I think she makes him stop and appreciate life. There’s this innocent quality about her. I can’t help but smile when I read her.
Lucien is struggling with his new life. I swear that man can break my heart. I just want to shield him. He’s completely enamored with his wife and son, but at the same time fears losing it all, and that fear is wearing him down. Sabrina, has to really reach him and show she’s not going anywhere.
Ramon and Noah, oh my! If you’re a fan of M/M, then you are in for a treat. A toe-curling, heart-melting treat. I love seeing those two together, and not just in the bedroom. They are perfect for each other, in every way.
I don’t want to spoil anything, but…the epilogue…Oh, Ms. Buchanan, I do believe you’re giving us a glimpse of things to come and I definitely cannot wait.
A McKenzie Christmas was certainly a special treat and what a way to kick off the holiday season.

Book Tour: Reaper’s Fall By Joanna Wylde

The New York Timesbestselling author of Reaper’s Standis back in her “uber-alpha rough world of MCs”* as one woman’s future is rocked by the man whose hardcore past could destroy her…

He never meant to hurt her.
Levi “Painter” Brooks was nothing before he joined the Reapers motorcycle club. The day he patched in, they became his brothers and his life. All they asked in return was a strong arm and unconditional loyalty—a loyalty that’s tested when he’s caught and sentenced to prison for a crime committed on their behalf.
Melanie Tucker may have had a rough start, but along the way she’s learned to fight for her future. She’s escaped from hell and started a new life, yet every night she dreams of a biker whose touch she can’t forget. It all started out so innocently—just a series of letters to a lonely man in prison. Friendly. Harmless. Safe.
Now Painter Brooks is coming home… and Melanie’s about to learn that there’s no room for innocence in the Reapers MC.

“You want to watch a movie or something?” she asked, nodding toward the TV. I had a decent one, too. Giant-ass flat-screen—homecoming present from the club.
“Sure,” I said, reaching for the remote. I didn’t have cable, but Ruger had set up some kind of box thingie for me so I could stream shit. “Whatcha in the mood for?”
“Not horror,” she said quickly, and I laughed again, remembering that first evening I’d spent with her at Pic’s house. She’d been so young and scared and vulnerable . . . I’d wanted to eat her up.
I still wanted to eat her.
“I can’t believe that you and Puck were supposed to be watching over me, and then you put in a slasher movie. That’s not how you make a girl feel safe.”
“No horror,” I agreed, although the thought of holding her for a couple hours while she was scared shitless appealed way more than it should. Watch it, asshole. “How about Star Wars?”
“You like Star Wars?”
I shrugged. “Everyone likes Star Wars. You know, I’m pretty damned sure Han Solo was a biker.”
She giggled. “You mean, like a space biker?”
“See, when you say it like that it sounds stupid.”
“I wanted to be Princess Leia. She’s badass,” she said, taking a deep drink of her beer. I watched as her lips wrapped around the neck, her throat swallowing. Oh fuck, that was good. She set the beer down on the coffee table with a clink, then let loose with the biggest burp I’d ever heard.
“Fucking hell,” I said, stunned. “I didn’t think girls could burp like that. Shit. Impressive, Mel. Very impressive.”
She grinned at me.
“We’re friends,” she told me. “And friends don’t need to worry about stuff like that. Let me guess—you’ve never had a female friend before?”
“Not really,” I admitted. “I’m think I’m a little scared.”
Scared and turned on, which was weird.
“You should be. I can do the whole alphabet.”
Damn. I kinda wanted to see that.
